Critical Role C3E9 - Pretty the chef
Pretty had me at his big smile.
Joe Russo when Tony Stark saidĀ ābillionaire, playboy, philanthropistā in the first avengers
so far, I have quotes from the russos on how they think Cap is old fashioned and needed to go, how black widow was damaged and needed toĀ ācomplete herselfā how tonyĀ āneeds to go.ā they clearly donāt care for thor or ant man, thinking them idiots. They donāt seem to respect Falcon or War machine (I wonder why) so who DO they like?
Why were they given control over a movie franchise where they hate all the characters?
Completely agree. Here are the quotes theyāre referencing btw
This really freaking annoys me. If youāre in charge of a movie franchise then it is your job to embrace every character, to help them grow and overcome their differences. But no, NO! These asshats kill off every single character that they hate and are acting like complete babies just because they donāt like them. If you donāt like them so much then fuck off! Go and work on something else! Just stop ruining the MCU!!!
They both literally just hated everyone. Here is another quote I havenāt heard a lot of people mention either
Loki: h-
Joe Russo:
this is so funny tho
Oh they hated everyone that explains why the movies are like that
No wonder the mcu feels like a slightly better Michael bay franchise
On the bright side, knowing the directors actively hated half the characters they were working with leaves me feeling 0% hesitant to ignore every single bullshit character move they made! š
I donāt know why people do this⦠for example they did it with Star Trek and jj abramsā¦
Look, I have my differences with the LOTR movies, but you can see in every frame the sheer overwhelming love for the story that went into those movies. On genuinely every level. Every person involved with the production of those movies loved what they were doing and were working passionately, and it shows.Ā
The disregard that leaks through parts of the MCU, two of the new Star Trek movies, and the new Star Wars trilogy really is baffling to me. So many people love these franchises and would have lovinglyĀ poured their heart and soul into them. And filmmakers who just didnāt care were handed these films?? Imagine what we could have gotten if actual fans had been allowed to make these movies.Ā
Oh wait, I donāt have to imagine. People who love these franchises and these characters put their tiny amounts of free time and overwhelming effort into producing fanfiction and fanart for these characters every day. I could go on AO3 right now and in half a dozen clicks get sweeping, beautiful, poeticĀ treatises on the human condition written through these āVerses. Vast arrays of adventures starring these characters, and the characters themselves would be lovingly adored by their writers. I could enjoy content made by people who care.Ā
These directors and producers donāt deserve to be handed these franchises and they donāt deserve the paychecks they receive for half-assing their way through them. Not when fans produce outstanding content every day for free, just out of passion alone. This is ridiculous, can Hollywood please start putting people who actually care about the characters in charge of the movies? Please? I promise Iāll go back to buying movie tickets if I think the characters will be treated fairly by their narratives.Ā
That explains why, despite my incredible geekiness, Iāve been meh about seeing these movies. The contempt showed.
Iām not even a fan of the mcu but Iām fucking livid right now
I guess the other thing that occurs to me is like, what the fuck is this attitude when youāre in charge of the show?!Ā Youāre one of the only people in existence who then actually has the power to make that character INTO someone you would like! Never trust someone who when presented with the opportunity to help someone improve or kill them, as first and only thought, chooses to kill them.Ā
taika: hereās this neat symbolism of thor being sent down the same path of his father, shown by losing his eye and having the eyepatch, but instead he chose to be a better man than his father was. also his hammer gets destroyed because he never really needed it, it was just a channel for his powers, and heās far more powerful without it.
russo brothers: ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.. okay heres a robot eye and an axe
Reblogging for @iunia-kallistrate excellent tag commentary:Ā
#the russo brothers are having the joss whedon problem#jossā shit was innovative when he started#(performative) feminism 101 on TV in Sci-fi then#was huge#but now weāre all in (actual) feminism 405 and that 101 stuff is tired#the Russo brotherās were kings of the superhero scene when the only bar they had to surpass was Whedonās#and so they went and did social and moral conflicts 101 stories featuring white men and their sidekicks#but then we got Tiaka and Ryan Coogler#who write social and moral conflict on the graduate level and not the undergrad freshman intro level#and both of them surpassing Whedonās so called feminism to boot#not that its hard#but youāve got Tiaka over her writing a female character who can go toe to toe with the boys w/o it being about how sexy she is#Valkyrie is on fire but its not about them#Even the Grandmasterās little crush is meant to show us how badass she is and not how hot she is#Then you get Ryan Coogler out her writing a fucking dissertation on intersectional feminism and the patriarchy of the diaspora#How are we supposed to go back to the Russo brothers after that#When they refuse to accept that the game has changed and try to break what was built to fit their tired concepts#the same Whedon ignored their character building in Ultron#like kids who brake their own toys because they donāt want their siblings to play

ādid chris evans actually jump that high to grab onto that helicopter in civil war?ā
friendly reminder that chris vaulted with ease over chris pratt after just telling him less than a minute before that he would be able to clear him if heĀ onlyĀ put his head down.
I want a Celebrity Obstacle Course show where all the pretty people can show off their hard stunt work for us and also occasionally eat it, because they need to be humbled sometimes. The judges would be career stunt people, to give them visibility, because they work even harder. Shirts optional.
You wouldnāt even finish the phrase āCelebrity Ninja Warriorā before Chris would start jumping up and doing yelling āMe! Me! Pick me!ā
Anyone know how to contact Netflix about this?
friendly reminder Chris did most of his stunts bc the stunt guys couldnāt move like him.
āOne thing we found, too, is Chris can run very fast. He also has a very unique run. Itās almost a dancerās run. And when we tried to double him for running, there was nobody who could run like him. They just didnāt have the same dynamics or the way he moves. He had to end up doing most of his running.ā
āWhat we also found, is that we had gymnasts come in to do things, and Chris could do the same stuff that they could do, but it would look like Chris Evans. When the body doubles or the gymnasts or the runners did it, it just didnāt look like him. He has such a unique way of moving, and he could pretty much do all of his own physical stuff that wasnāt dangerous. Like this shot right here, we had a gymnast do this, and Chris actually ended up doing it better. Thatās Chris here. He hops up on a tank and over a 12-foot wall. It looks effortless but itās not that easy!ā
āChris worked his butt off for four months doing gymnastics and stunt training so in a scene like this he could go toe-to-toe with Georges St-Pierre and make it look really credible. Once the helmet comes off, 95% of that is Chris, except obviously for that massive aerial kick that he does. I think he did a fantastic job.ā

The really cool thing about Chris Evans is that heās a super talented, athletic guy. He retains things amazingly well. I mean, Iām blown away. I can show him a 15-punch fight two times, and heās got it. - Thomas Harper, Stunt Coordinator, CATWS

I love love to see Chris Evans vs Stephen Amell do American ninja warrior. Stephen kicked some serious ass when he did it.
Omg, yes. Stephen was so hyped about it. Having a Chris vs Stephen for charity would be great! @evilelmo2383
Yes, please!
You two are such treasures. Sunshine on my cloudy day. I know you two have discussed Chris Evans and Michael B Jordan already. But I hope one day you go through all of the Marvel cast!
Hi, Anon!
There are things we can do, and things we⦠cannot do.Ā
But thank you so much for listening, and for treasuring us. Hopefully, we will be doing episodes focusing on people you like and thirst for in the not too distant future. š
I would also like an ep focusing on Marvel. But maybe give us a little time to recover?
THIRST AID KIT | S2E02 | TOM HIDDLESTON, THE EARNEST SCARECROW
HI, THIRST-BUCKETS.Ā
Once upon a time, whenĀ Tom Hiddlestonās Loki told us to kneel, and down we went, no questions asked, joints creaking only slightly: there was just something about a tricksy villain who also knew how to cry and feel feelings. TOM HIDDLESTON WAS IT. But ::serious face:: what happens when a dreamboat drifts off course?
In this weekās episode, we explore the appeal of Tom Hiddleston, most crucially in the wake of The 2016 Incident, when Tom abruptly went from being a lovable slender snack to the ex we ignored on social media. And we have been working our way back to full thirst ever since. We brought in a special guest, our friend and colleague here at BuzzFeed dot com the website, TVĀ and film writer Alanna Bennett, to help us figure out a clear path as to why we fancied him and how to bring back that loving feeling. She suggested we start with:
that melodious voice
the puppy-dog earnestness
the smoldering passion of his characters
So thatās exactly what we did.
We also spoke at length about his role as the hotblooded RAF pilot Freddie Page in Terrence Daviesā The Deep Blue Sea. Hereās a (mildly NSFW?) scene you should watch right now:
(Actually, you should just watch the whole thing. Itās LUSH.)
We also spoke about how heās a ham who canāt resist showing off (even if his impressions arenāt as good as he thinks they are), the precise timbre of his voice, how nice it is to such a slender man (Nicholeās fave type of man š) be the recipient of so much lust, that shower he took on stage in Coriolanus at the National Theatre Donmar, and how good he is at playing soldiers, not least because he gets to engage in stage combat, which we all think Tom really enjoys.
(same, Tom)
Sidenote: this weekās Fanfic Wars broke us both. Remember to vote for your fave over on our Twitter.Ā

I am not in a place where I can listen to this today and it is killing me.
okay i have a loki question
how the fuck did odin sneak him into asgard?
like, heimdall saw that shit right? odin comes back through the bifrost and heimdall is just āā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.ā
heimdall: thatās a baby
odin: yes! heās my son! ā¦ā¦ā¦..loki. iām going to dress him in green and black, because that worked great last time
or odin comes back and is trying to figure out, how to play it, and heimdall and frigga are just waiting for him and completely deadpan
frigga: ah, husband! you have returned from war in time to meet your newborn son. who i had. after being pregnant. secretly.
odin: what
frigga:
heimdall:
loki: *baby noises*
odin: right
honestly, i just need heimdall going up to frigga like āyou wonāt believe what your husband just didā
odin: heās a replacement for the child I had to lock away in the shadow realm.
heimdall:
odin: Iāll do better by this one.Ā I know I will.
heimdall:
heimdall: You mean Frigga will.
Odin: Please can we keep it? Itās cute and changes colours and smiles at my empty eye socket. I promise Iāll take care of it Iāll feed it every week and Iāll dress it in green and black and Iāll teach it to throw knives and it will be great!
Heimdall: Frigga, he stole a baby. Say something.
THIS IS THE BEST THING
Dear white women feminists who loved Wonder Womanā
Listen, I also loved Wonder Woman. But I also think that Diana would be the first to note that we are not free until we are all free. So if you posted a thousand times about how important WW was for little girls to see, then I hope you are also prepared to post a thousand times about how important the new Black Panther movie is for black kids- girls and boys- to see.
I saw Wonder Woman, and I teared up the first time she stormed the battlefield in her full regalia. But, as a black woman, I couldnāt not notice that the women who looked like me played supporting, and largely non-speaking, background parts. Black Panther is the chance for women who look like me to see ourselves as the heroes in our own story. To see ourselves as warriors, as epic royalty, as fully actualized superheroes. In a major studio blockbuster, no less. Never- not ever- has that happened before.
We are looking forward to your support.
To be honest, what I'm most excited about seeing in Black Panther is Dora Milaje kicking ass.
King Roanās OTP ⦠and that other guy.
