Nearly two decades later, I think it just fully hit me why Iroh told Zuko's crew about how he got his scar. It wasn't just to say, "Have some sympathy for him, he had a hard childhood." It was because the crew were all upset (rightfully so) that Zuko had said, "The safety of the crew doesn't matter." and Iroh was trying to point out that, yes, what Zuko had said was wrong, but that's not what he really thinks, at least, that's not what he used to think. There was a time when Zuko cared about the safety of soldiers he had never even met, so much so that he spoke out of turn, which is what led to the domino effect that caused all of them to be sitting on that ship together. And this is brought full-circle when Zuko climbs the ladder to help the helmsman at the end of the episode. And that's when the crew realizes that, temperament aside, Zuko actually has been and is still willing to put everything on the line for the safety of others.

Our system is broken.  It is cruel.  It is dehumanizing, degrading, and it’s vile nature is so, so unnecessary.

We need universal healthcare today in America.  We needed it 40 years ago.  It’s cheaper, it’s simpler, it’s more efficient, it’s more effective and it is so, so, so much less cruel than what we have.

🏳️‍🌈 Ruth Ellis (1899 - 2000) was the daughter of former slaves. She came out as a lesbian when she was 16-years-old to the complete acceptance of her family. In 1937, Ruth and her longtime partner moved to Detroit from their hometown of Springfield, Illinois for the promise of higher wages. There, she became the first woman in Michigan to run her own printing business. She printed fliers, posters, and stationary in the front room of her home, which also quickly became a hotspot for Black LGBTQ social life. Before long, Ruth was helping those who came around in any way she could, including by paying for college tuitions. After the Stonewall uprising, 70-year-old Ruth began giving speeches in support of gay and lesbian rights all across the country. She remained an activist for the rest of her long life and even spent her 100th birthday leading the San Francisco Dyke March. At the time of her death at 101, she was recognized as the oldest out lesbian in the US. She is the subject of the documentary "Living With Pride: Ruth C. Ellis @ 100" and is the namesake of the Ruth Ellis Center, a shelter for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth in Detroit.

In much better and happier news Buffalo after decades of hard work and conservation efforts from indigenous organizations have finally been released back on our lands after 150 years.

I saw this video live and cried my eyes out. This is so important. Despite it all we survived. We're still here and the possibility to heal the land and ourselves is always there even if it will take time.

Now that MCR is getting big again, I want to just get a little reminder out there that multiple members of the band are queer, including Gerard Way who is pan and nb.

They're aren't being good allies or whatever when they represent that LGBTQ community in their performances and merch, they're connecting with their own community. Early emo was a scene was a refuge for young queer kids at the time when the culture was extremely hostile to us (even more than now, believe it or not).

LGBTQ artists, particularly ones with any sort of mainstream success or public spotlight, have had their identities downplayed, hidden, or fully erased for decades.

I've fallen into that trap myself, I called Lady Gaga a performative straight ally years and years ago when Born This Way came out because I had no idea that she had been out as bi for years.

A lot of people just straight up don't know even when it comes to vocal and explicitly out artists because it is actively hidden by an industry that tries to please a mostly straight audience that are harder to sell on LGBTQ artists.

Look at the reaction to Megan Thee Stallion who is vocally out as bi, but rarely ever talked about as a prominent LGBTQ artist.

It happens, don't beat yourself up, but it is always good to make yourself aware when you can.
