Kris and Susie may have been friends in the past and had a major falling out.
The more I look at this, the more I think Susie and Kris have some history - long ago history - and it didn’t end well.
Something - maybe Kris’s adoption by Toriel - may have abruptly ended their friendship, and Susie was still angry about it.
I think Kris and Susie having been friends before explains some of the vitriol Susie displays here, the lack of fear Kris has, and the way both of them act like they’ve been friends for years in Chapter 2.
Maybe they’re just picking up where they left off. Healing an old wound.

This makes so much sense. I’m not sure I’m 100% convinced but it was always strange to me that despite seemingly becoming friends with Susie so little time ago, according to the Teas he already liked her twice as much as Ralsei, another new friend who had been arguably much kinder to them than Susie
And much more than Noelle, who had been childhood friends with them and consistently showed them kindness, even if they had been estranged from each other for a bit
It’s obvious that Kris thinks Susie is extremely cool and wants to be friends with her, but if she were truly just a brand new friend and former bully wouldn’t that put her somewhere around 80-100, tops? Maybe Kris just likes Susie THAT much but it all makes so much more sense if Susie is an old friend that became distant due to circumstances outside their control, whom they desperately wanted to reconnect with but didn’t know how until they entered the Dark World. Of course they’d be elated when they manage it!
Also, regardless of whether or not they both came from a human settlement (which I’m believing more and more each day), certain things would make much more sense in this light. Like, for example, Susie’s willingness to eat just about anything,
and Kris’ eagerness to eat moss of all things would make much more sense if they had both either been in the foster system or living on the streets at some point, and therefore had learned to appreciate “alternative” sources of food, since they had been used to living meal to meal, scavenging what they could.
If that’s true that moment where Kris shares the moss with Susie is suddenly like 10 times more meaningful, it’d be like them going back to a time when things were uncomplicated between them and Kris hadn’t been forced to leave Susie behind alone and they had to make do with what little they could find but still made sure to share with each other and they were probably all the other had and oh my god I’m-
