I really need some of you to realize that you're not actually being progressive by making people's characters fatter or changing their skintones if they're #FFF white. There are fat and black OCs on this site that get no attacks at all, and they're extremely easy to find if you just use the tag search. Go attack them and actually make the recipient happy instead of just making yourself feel self-righteous by "fixing" other OCs.

Listen I get it but you CANNOT use "sensory nightmare" as an excuse to avoid essential things. You HAVE to find a way to make it work, such as finding effective alternatives. But you can't just avoid it.

my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government

Being able to draw older people as attractive without reducing or erasing the visual signs of aging, and in fact showing that they're attractive because of those signs, is an artistic skill that should be valued so much more. Honestly, it should earn you an immediate fortune because holy fuck is it a rare commodity. There are so many artists who seem to think attractiveness and aging exist in opposition to each other, so they smooth every wrinkle, erase every crease, and de-age the character until they're basically thirty with silver hair. But when an artist can look at crow's feet, smile lines, weathered skin, deep-set wrinkles, and all the little traces of a life well lived and say, "No, that's what makes them beautiful," that's a level of artistic observation and care I wish we celebrated more often.

a lot of people are reblogging this saying that most "lazy" people are actually just disabled or that the concept of laziness itself is a product of our society's obsession with productivity. this is all true, but it is not my point.
even if someone WAS just lazy and simply didn't want to do anything but lie on the couch and watch tv, they should still have these things. it's irrelevant whether some people aren't actually lazy because everyone, including hypothetical lazy people, should have their basic needs met.
if we have the resources to do it, there is no defense of letting people die because they don't want to work, and much less because they can't.
I don't want lazy people to have basic necessities because they "actually" deserve them because they ARE working or CAN'T work. I want lazy people to have basic necessities because they are people, and we shouldn't leave them to die when we have the resources not to.
one of the best ways i’ve found to combat that inherent depressive pessimism without veering into toxic positivity territory is simply the phrase “i’m open to the possibility”
this particularly works with anything negative i’ve forecasted. “i woke up feeling like shit today, so my day is gonna suck” isn’t a particularly helpful thought, but “it’s a great day to be alive!!!!!” feels hollow and insincere when i have a pounding headache & am running on three hours of sleep
instead i’ll tell myself, “i really don’t feel good right now, but i’m open to the possibility that coffee and breakfast might perk me up a bit.” or “i’m in a lot of pain today, but i’m open to the possibility that my workday might still have fun parts despite that”
sometimes, when your impulse is to slam the door on anything good, but you’re not exactly up to going out & hunting it down yourself, leaving the door open just a crack makes all the difference

Sending in a confession because this topic rankles me, re: someone drawing a person’s fat character in a fetishy way being framed as being against fat people being considered sexy. I’ve run into this issue before as someone who has a number of fat characters and has people with fat kinks in my audience due to this. A personal example is a character of mine who’s fat and dresses in well-tailored outfits (think like James Bond). I think this character is quite attractive, and I would be happy to see someone drawing him in a ‘sexy’ way that suits his character as someone suave and sophisticated – like how any thin character with the same vibe would be drawn. Instead, I had someone I know to have a fat kink draw him in a vest/shirt where all the buttons were close to popping off along with other details of his clothes being too small for his “huge” body.
The example the previous confessor gave, of their character’s shirts always being drawn riding up, is another example of this type of kink art. People misinterpreted their concern as saying that fat people can't wear crop tops. But I think that person was just noticing the fixation on clothes being too small or not fitting the person correctly. Badly fitting clothes aren’t sexy unless you have a fat kink where you are aroused by the how a character’s girth impacts the way “average” sized clothes fit them and the “humiliation” of not being able to find clothes that fit their body. That’s where attraction to a fat person moves to fetishizing their size itself. Not only might it feel gross to receive kink art if you aren't comfortable with getting sexual art from strangers, it can also be upsetting to have the actual personality traits of your character ignored (in my case, that this character pays a lot of attention to dressing well and would never go out in a vest that was multiple sizes too small for him) because emphasizing their size is more important than anything else about them. It’s objectifying, I suppose you could say. Reducing them to their body.
Since a lot of fat fetish work is also built off of negative stereotypes or the humiliation of fat people, kink art can sometimes come across as insulting, too. (Again, I've had people with fat kinks asking if my characters are greedy or stinky or lazy in a 'it would be so hot if that were true' way and I have to tell them they're not like that over and over and it does get tiring) Despite all I've typed, I’m not even anti-fat-kink or anything and I don't think it makes you a bad person. Most kinks are formed from taboos and the push and pull between 'it's so bad but it's so good' because we live in a society and all that, lots of kinks much more accepted than fat kinks work the same way. But regardless, it’s important to keep these things in their own spaces and only draw someone’s character in such a way if you know that the owner wants and is prepared for it. I find it aggravating when negative reactions to fat fetish content are dismissed as ‘can’t people find fat attractive?’ because it reads like someone being frustrated that their feminine characters are being drawn undergoing bimbo TF and responding ‘can’t people find femininity attractive?’ There is obviously a gray area where the difference between non-kink art and kink art can be hard to discern, but I think pretending like there isn’t a difference at all is foolish and opens doors to people being taken advantage of with fetish-mining (which happened to me with a different “sfw” kink, a story for another time maybe) and excusing bad behavior and regressive attitudes. Okay soap-box over.
