my favorite thing about asoiaf is that the whole plot of the first book is a murder mystery that you just completely and utterly forget about by the end because the fallout is way more important than the question. lysa revealing that she did it at the end of the third book is less of a twist than remembering that “who killed jon arryn” is something we were concerned about in the first place. literary equivalent of leaving the stove on

the real bit is that the lannisters also never solved this mystery and simply did not care despite being accused of it several times. When ned stark ran up to cersei in the garden in agot to be like “I know the truth jon arryn died for” she ALSO had absolutely no idea who killed jon arryn but she simply decided to roll with it. and then you get to a feast for crows and find out that cersei thinks jon arryn just straight up regular died and isn’t worried about it? queen of minding her own business
