I think you guys need to understand

there have always been hygiene requirements in Yugioh, thanks to one card, and Yugioh players being just… the worst sometimes.

First, the card:

Why yes, you can force your opponent to have to choose between surrendering the game and shaking your hand.  Yes there was a strategy around making dropping out of a tournament more appealing than touching your disgusting hand.  In theory you’re also supposed to shake hands before the duel but this is often skipped over at no issue.

Second, the Worst.

So, in Yugioh, at any time you can request to see an opponent’s card, at which point your opponent is expected to pass you the card.  Some players would take advantage of this rule combined with the anti-marking rules- any time they were going to lose a match, they would ask to see a card, smear some shit off their hand onto the back of the card, pass it back, call a judge, and get them disqualified from the tournament for having a marked card.

So, since the early days, there have been rules around player hygiene, because some people are just… awful, and weaponize their own disgusting filth.
