Been reading They’ll Celebrate Our Deaths with a National Parade by @untilenglandisnomore . Fun stuff.

This is art from a later chapter of the story. The clones make ship’s nose art out of Padme’s figure a la avenging angel in clone armor. I made up the text. It’s just meant to reflect the spirit of the chapter. The arubesh reads “Naboo acknowledges ALL her people.” It references that in the story, Naboo becomes one of the key planets to offer citizenship to the clones.

Nigel Farage is the leader of Reform UK, a far right party who are currently in the process of a serious bid to become the UK government. they are just straight up evil.

Count Binface is an intergalactic space warrior with a bin on his head. he likes to run as a novelty candidate in general and mayoral elections. a big thing he likes to do is run as a candidate against the incumbent prime minister:

Anyway, in brief:

Nigel Farage is currently in the midst of a big scandal about his finances

He has decided to deal with this by 1) making a show of nobly resigning from parliament and then 2) immediately running in the resulting by-election

He has stated that he is letting 'the people' judge his actions and implied that if he wins that will prove that he has been exonerated in the court of public opinion

His goal was presumably to get a big resounding win over the other parties, proving that The People still love him.

the other parties have thus far decided that this is a 'vanity election' and, well, there is one very easy way to ensure that he will not beat any of them, and that is simply not to play.

and as a result the only person who has so far confirmed they are running against him is Count Binface. no matter the outcome this makes Nigel Farage look like, u know, a fucking clown.

So what happens if Count Binface actually wins? Does he join Parliament? Does he have to take the bin off his face?

I've seen some people saying he would have to give up his title but it would seem that is no longer the case as of 1999; so, no, he can keep his ceremonial bin if he wishes.

Important to note also that Count Binface is the alter ego of comedian & political satirist Jon Harvey who seems to be an intelligent individual with reasonable politics. As I said no real downside.

on the one hand: Amazon putting out a Legally Blonde prequel show called Elle about Elle Woods in high school when her family temporarily moves to Seattle in the 90s FEELS like a shallow cash grab somehow since it's a) amazon, and b) legally blonde is so beloved.

On the other hand, it was Reese Witherspoon's idea (she got the idea watching Wednesday, apparently) and she's really excited about it and I know she absolutely adores that character and LB3 has been in development limbo for close to a decade at this point, so I am hopeful it's at least clearly made with LOVE even if it's not great.

And on the third hand I love that Reese was part of the casting process for Elle specifically and that they cast an unknown actress named Lexi Minetree, and VISUALLY at least the girl is a perfect fuckin fit because just look AT her:

RIGHT???????????? In action it's not AS uncanny but it's still damn close, and she sounds pretty good in the trailer honestly without sounding entirely like she's just trying to copy Reese.

Based on the trailer, the main vibe of her peers is gruge and rock music, given it's seattle in 1995, and Elle is clearly not as confident in herself and her self-expression because she is trying a lot harder to fit in, but honestly that makes sense so it doesn't bother me. You're generally way less confident at 16 than you are when you're like 23 and already have a BA and a sense of who you are as an adult person, y'know? Even Elle has to grow into it.

Just to look at this from one step further back, let's accept the premise. Let's imagine that there is a type of crime that is 1) horrible evil irredeemable universally-agreed-upon bad, and 2) could somehow be prosecuted with 100% accuracy and 0% bias. Yes, even then, those criminals deserve a right to vote.

Do you they're going to like vote themselves out of jail? Vote to make murder legal? What exactly are you afraid of.

Realistically they'll just... vote just like anyone else. They'll help elect city councilmembers they think will better their hometowns, and presidents they think will best serve the country. They might even vote in their own interests! To reform prisons, fund rehabilitation programs, and outlaw predatory practices by telecoms. Are you saying you don't want any of those things?

And even if there were one of those super-duper-unambiguously-evil totally misanthropic death-row convicts, who's scheduled to be execute the very next day and just wants to sow chaos and watch the outside world burn however they can... what's the worst they could do, vote republican?

Taking people's rights away isn't bad because it might happen to someone you like, it's because taking people's rights away is bad.
