i cannot get over the visual of lestat's face screwed up, vomiting, and trying to speak through his vomit with the same rationalization of his abuse we have been hearing all season. i just can't get over it. the writing, the acting, the directing of that one moment is stuck in my head. we've heard these words before, but smoother in the past, the lestat pretending-everything-is-fine tone we've grown used to. to hear those same words shaking out between blood pouring from his mouth, tears in his eyes, the video still playing on the phone, that's not my mother, my mother is dead, she cannot be my mother, she is not my mother, she isn't, she isn't she isn't she isn't
I'm sorry but if you can't perceive a story as queer without there being explicit male/male cock in ass penetrative sex, the problem isn't with the story the problem is that your mind is poisoned with fetishism, male-centerdness and biphobia.
If a story that centers largely on a bisexual man and his gay ex-husband as they deal with the grief of their dead child and assorted various traumas isn't queer enough for you because there's not enough on screen man ass and fucking, maybe either ask yourself why you reduce queerness to gay sex or take your ass back to Heated Rivalry
I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.

What in the ACTUAL FUCK DID LONDON DO TO DESERVE THIS
i think draag merch has the same kind of issues that empire/first order merch had/has which is that while yes we know it is merch that is representing a fictional world in a story that is (in both cases stumblingly and problematically) about resistance and the evils of these governments/institutions, you are still ending up with merch that is specifically representing and paying a kind of tribute to the very institution you are saying is evil. and institutions that are fictional placeholders for real life fascist governments that have committed real life crimes against human beings.
it’s hard because i know most of the fans who buy this merch are doing so to support the band and because these tours HAVE been so huge for so many of us but it’s one of those things that requires a level of political awareness and tact from the band and their managers that just isn’t there. so many people more qualified than i have said this better than i have but with the new merch i am just sitting here like. the more we get the harder it is to reconcile choices made around a fictional world and the real world crises we’re seeing every day.
it’s one of those things that requires a level of political awareness and tact from the band and their managers that just isn’t there.
sigh
the writers did so fucking well at portraying and deconstructing the over abundant amount that lestat in the text romanticizes his abusers. he calls it the "seduction of magnus" multiple times throughout the vampire chronicles instead of admitting he was preyed upon. when you read the books you have to look between the lines of his flowery prose and avoidance but the show took a corny over the top music video style approach and then slammed it next to a full blown ptsd flashback to make sure the audience did not have a chance to misinterpret or mock anything and i respect them for that
Op, the tags deserve to be here too!
T-shirt that says "I'M SORRY FOR THE PERSON I BECOME WHEN I'M OVERHEATED"
We're in the fascist tradwife, stay-at-home girlfriend, revoked abortion access apocalypse, and people who otherwise are sensible still refuse to admit that most likely means an exacerbated violent hatred for women who just point blank will not voluntarily partner up with a man.
"I've never heard of the trope that disabled people are accused of lying". okay but have you ever noticed:
the number of "exposes" that are done on individuals "misusing" disability funds? (if, like me, you're aussie... think about the almost fortnightly stories they run on a current affair about NDIS misuse)
the pile-ons that happen online whenever a disabled person accuses someone of ableism, where the disabled person is instantly framed as 'hysterical' regardless of the validity of their claim?
the number of stories disabled people pass around about being misdiagnosed, or being turned away from the ER with a diagnosis of anxiety, when we should've gotten treatment?
the amount of documentation that is required to prove that a person is "actually" disabled whenever they apply for any kind of support, no matter how minor?
that the key concern of many politicians is to cut down on "frauds" who are "taking advantage" of disability support systems?
if you pay attention to disability issues for even five seconds it's painfully obvious that there is a massive culture of distrust when it comes to disabled people living in the world and having support needs. the fact that we are even accused of exaggerating the amount that we're treated like liars is itself an example of this bullshit. "you're lying about how much people imagine you as a permanent liar" listen to yourself
Like 90% of all internet drama callout posts on this site include a "faking disability for internet clout" section, let's not kid ourselves
At a time when Netflix is getting roundly criticized for forcing its shows to treat the audience like we have all of two brain cells to rub together, The Vampire Lestat is out here volleying everything from 70s gay references to 1700s Dutch Republic references at the speed of light while saying, "You don't get it? Well, that's a fucking you problem."
And I love that for us.
Y'know what I really fuckin hate?
Tiny houses.
Not the concept, the notion, the Platonic ideal of a low-cost low-impact high-efficiency dwelling. That’s great. That’s awesome.
What really imagines my dragons is that in practice about 9 times out of 10 tiny house communities are just a way for rich hipsters to finally fulfil their greatest fantasy:
They found a way to fucking gentrify the trailer park
listen i know you’re making a point here but i cant stop thinking about ‘imagines my dragons’
