So this is my very first Blog. As you see, I do not curate jack shit when it comes to what I reblog other than "I like that" (could be cute animals, a good piece of art, a positivity post, or something political/discourse related). You should keep this in mind, as well as my backstory. I am a cis man who grew up surrounded by political lesbian seperatists (might make a post going into everything involved but none the less it resulted in pretty nasty internalized misandry and lack of romantic interaction with women up into adulthood). I was attracted to Tumblr under the foolish idea that I could find people talking about things that could help me, or maybe even other people with the same traumas. I might unknowingly interact with misogynists or if I end up making my own posts might accidentally say something that gets used against it's intended purpose. I want everyone to know that I'm a Woke Queer who believes the Patriarchy is real and bad. Cisgender masc-presenting bisexual male (he/him). Is an adult (21+). I wouldn’t lean into this line of thinking, then we self isolate from people who are actually our allies and then will fall into bigoted thinking because of our anecdotal experiences - there is no demographic of person who won’t treat you poorly and you’ll be surprised who treats you with respect sometimes

Every person should be treated on a case by case basis and not over generalized because of our anxieties. We want solidarity, not separatism. The only way we can achieve solidarity is if it’s reciprocal, so we will demand the respect we deserve and then separate the wheat from the chaff

Y'know, there's something to the fact that staff does actually have a proven track record of banning trans women over nothing, but whenever the concept is brought up the examples are like, isff (banned for pedophilia defense and repeated ban evasion, new blog is still up now that she didn't directly list her banned accounts), yay-bunnies (banned for very explicitly calling for a harassment campaign), eradicate-tmes-now (self-admitted pedophile), patricia taxxon (pedophile, she groomed a 13yr old and continues to defend pedophilia on her other social medias), trans women banned for good reasons that can't just be boiled down to staff transmisogyny, in other words. It feels like the people using these examples to say staff is transmisogynistic care less about trans women getting banned and more about not having to face the consequences of being a horrible person.

I think part of the problem is that, like, a hundred years ago there were Extremely Strict gender roles for both men and women, and then due to the hard work of a century of feminists (thank you feminists) we have massively expanded what a woman can be. We are nearing (hopefully) the point where women really can be Anything.

However, the idea of what a man can be has not expanded in the same way. Every man has to be stoic, loud, take up space, and never show weakness. Allowing men to be sensitive, emotional, soft, pretty, and feminine used to be one of the goals of feminism. After all, how are we supposed to see ourselves as truly equal if we still have such strict rules guiding gendered behavior?

Recently, I have seen feminism (trans exclusionary and trans inclusive) solidifying those strict rules of manhood instead of breaking them down. The idea that all men are agressive, stubborn, and will physically overpower you has been parroted so many times, it almost feels like fact. It is forcing —not the men themselves— but the idea of men into the role of the evil wrongdoer. The ways in which terfs have used this image to harm trans women are myriad and obvious.

It used to be common knowledge that feminism also ought to benefit men in this way. If the sexes were truly equal, then men could act feminine, and women could act masculine without social repercussions. This breakdown of gender roles is a good thing! It is freeing for all of us to remove the arbitrary rules guiding gendered behavior.

Men should wear flower crowns and glitter beards and dresses and cry in public and tell their friends they love them. Your idea of men needs to include them doing all of these things. You need to make space in your head for men to be sensitive and thoughtful and caring and safe.

What the fuck does materialism even mean to these people. There’s not much more based in material reality than being forced to carry a pregnancy to term and producing a child that you may or may not want. Those pregnancies are real. The health risks are real. The dysphoria is real. The medical misogyny is real. The babies are real. None of this is a thought exercise. It happens to people in their material realities.

People having such dismissive attitudes towards abortion bans just tells me they don’t actually give a fuck about anyone who can get pregnant. This has nothing to do with whether or not they, themselves can or not. That is an entirely separate issue. Pregnancy can be a dream to them but that doesn’t give them permission to be so hostile to people who do get pregnant and don’t want to be. Or dismiss their struggles as a fucking fantasy. This happens to people all the fucking time! IN THE MATERIAL WORLD!!!

i think this is what happens when you try to reconcile defining gender by oppression with defining gender by self-identity. if you define "man" and "woman" as "perpetrator" and "victim" of misogyny, respectively, while also believing that all it takes to be a man or a woman is to simply self-identify as one, you come to the absurd conclusion that abortion bans affect women who can't get pregnant worse than they affect men who can. this attitude is further exemplified in frierenburger's long screed about how trans men exploit trans women for sex so they don't get pregnant then get pregnant anyway and baby trap them to take their money (sauce: https://www.tumblr.com/trans-masked/808023510269198336).

the antidotes to this attitude:

gender=/= biological sex. abortion and pregnancy-related healthcare is an issue that targets people who can get pregnant, regardless of their gender identity.

women are persecuted, but womanhood is not defined by persecution. Not every form of misogyny affects every woman. not everyone affected by misogyny is a woman. while trans women are in general treated worse than cis women, that doesn't automatically mean every form of misogyny targets trans women Worse And More.

Just as being a biological male doesn't necessarily protect you from misogyny, neither does identifying as a male.

Misogyny isn't one single well-defined thing, and it can attack people on the basis of perceived "female" sex characteristics, feminine presentation, masculine presentation, reproductive capacity or lack thereof, real or perceived sexuality, etc.

You don't have to be the Most Oppressed Person for your opinion to be valuable. You can talk about your own personal experiences and listen to the experiences of others without having to invalidate others or invent complex theories for why Every Bad Thing Targets Your In-Group The Most

Base your theories on reality, not the other way round.

OK FUN FACT i also thought this picture was hilarious when i encountered it a few months ago, so i was curious how it ended up on wikipedia

it turns out the uploader is in fact the woman in the photo (she's uploaded a few other pictures of herself to other articles) and she ran an extremely web 1.0 site on the topic of bondage

this was apparently a long-standing fantasy of hers and she in fact did an entire video plus accompanying photoshoot about it, which was run in a bondage magazine in the 90s and did in fact take place on an abandoned train track. they committed to the bit hard enough that there's even a shot of the sinister villain looming over her with a big document labeled DEED and a pen

the best part is that according to this page, there were two "villains" involved (the woman's two partners, apparently), and the other one was dressed as a gorilla. sadly there are no images of the gorilla kidnapper because that sounds like. even funnier.

anyway i thought this whole thing was kinda cute, lol
