Fun cat fact incoming!

Cats frequently do enjoy getting wet and playing with water! It's all about how much control they have.

Just like humans, cats hate when they get wet without intending to, but will enjoy playing with water when they choose. If you're trying to force them into a bath, they'll fight tooth and nail, but if you let them choose to get in the bath, it'll be a much easier time turning them into a soggy kitty.

A cat's fur isn't really meant to get wet; the inner layer of their fur is meant for insulation, and when wet, it not only takes a long time to dry out, but it also fails to retain warmth. Bathing kittens can be risky because of this, since their tiny bodies can't compensate for the lack of insulation.

There are a number of wild cats that frequently swim, such as Jaguars, Tigers, and Fishing Cats. Fishing Cats in particular have actually developed semi-webbed paws and water resistant fur!

Cats aren't strangers to water, they simply have reasons for and against getting wet!

Fun fact: due to the ongoing financial support from the people of tumblr, critically endangered pygmy raccoons being rehabbed in Cozumel are now able to get vaccines for deadly diseases like distemper and rabies before they are released.

Yeah so tumblr has actually raised thousands of dollars for direct conservation actions to conserve the critically endangered pygmy raccoon. Some things funded include:

Necropsies

Veterinary care and lab tests for sick animals

Food for animals in rehab

Gas money to go rescue animals in trouble after hours when my partner doesn’t have access to the work van

A small plot of land to start building outdoor rehab enclosures on and potentially house long term residents

Vaccines

Tracking collars and other telemetry supplies

Okay but imagine being the team of Eridian scientists tasked with keeping Erid's Only Human alive for as long as possible while the whole planet's environment is literally trying to kill him. And then Rocky shows up and is like:

“Grace says he would like half of dome to be water.”

“Oh, is necessary for humans to have large amounts of water question?”

Small Eridian equivalent of a sigh. “No. Not needed for life. In fact Grace will die if he falls in water and does not get out.”

“Tell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.”

“No. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.”

“WHY QUESTION???”

To celebrate Erid getting their sun back on track, Grace asks for some alcohol. There's a small amount left from the Hail Mary and Rocky offers to take it to the science Eridians to see if they can synthesise more.

“Grace want this liquid for celebration.”

“Of course.” They scan it. “You have wrong liquid. This contain compounds which are poisonous for humans.”

“Yes yes yes. Grace say humans like feeling of being slightly poisoned.”

“WHY QUESTION?????”

Grace is like one of those extremely finicky tropical fish who instantly die if not kept in extremely specific conditions.

Looking for assistance!

Hello! I'm a Guest Artist for the Alumy Species, and I'm looking for any Native Americans (primarily those of the Tongva or similar nations) who could help me with a design. I'd love to make an Alumy based on P-22, the Mountain Lion which was given his burial rights by the local Native Americans, and I want to adorn them with appropriate apparel that properly respects that culture.

I want to make sure I get this right, and that I'm not mistaking anything for anything else. I've got a few sketches from some art pieces I've found online, but I'd love to have some genuine input!

If you have any friends who could help, please point them my way! I have until the end of June to get this done!

We really need to acknowledge the problem of bug centered blogs being regular victims of harassment. Can you imagine running a blog about horses and having to get comments and messages every day about how much their hatred and needless killing of horses is justified and that you're a psychotic vegan that hates people with phobias and wants humanity to die of disease. Every single day. We should not have to fucking put up with this, fix your hearts genuinely

Absolutely and if I can add, the animal that most kills people is mosquitoes, and they continue to populate exesivelly because they breed like rabbits so all our attempts kill some + a bunch of other insects, then the mosquitoes take up more of that big space.

There could be much more reasonable and manageable numbers of mosquitoes and other actually dangerous & disease spreading bugs because other insects would keep them in check & occupy space they'd need to spread.

Like. No killing insects & spreading pesticides generally isn't 'disease control' because it brings space for the ones that spread so many of those bug related diseases.
