This is even more ironic knowing that Theodore Herzl was inspired by the Scramble for Africa and even proposed to Secretary of State for the colonies, Joseph Chamberlain, to colonize Cyprus or the Sinai Peninsula. Furthermore, in the Sixth World Zionist congress in 1903, Herzl proposed the Uganda Plan as a potential for Jewish colonization. However, the plan was ultimately rejected when they saw that the white settler colonizers in East Africa weren't so keen on sharing land with the Jewish colonizers, hence why they changed their focus to Palestine.
