ive been sitting on this and thinking about this, because you have taken a profound misunderstanding from this post, but also like i feel like i should say this just because it should be said
for one, i dont think you can be happy while being gender dysphoric and not doing anything about it. like maybe you have a different relationship to gender dysphoria than i did, but i was fucking miserable living as a woman. i didnt recognize myself in the mirror, what i saw distressed me, being referred to by she/her distressed me, and ive said this before as somebody who was severely abused (mainly physically and sexually) by multiple family members, if i was able to transition when i came out at almost 16, things wouldve been a lot better for me. and thats without dealing with all the other trauma. im not saying that transitioning has or will solve all my problems, because thats not true. transitioning is not a substitute for dealing with trauma, but i didnt transition to deal with trauma, i transitioned to deal with gender dysphoria. and that obviously did help. but i would not have felt better about myself without transitioning if i didnt transition and just did ptsd therapy
i think like. im having a hard time imagining a situation in which you can be gender dysphoric, in the definition of discomfort or distress with your assigned sex at birth/your current sex traits, and just be happy not doing anything about it. to me its like if i just didnt do anything to deal with my ptsd and just said that i was happy when in reality i was ignoring my discomfort and dissociating. dysphoria might feel completely different for you, but thats just my experience with it
im not pressuring anyone to transition in this post. this was a post for trans men, specifically for trans men who have been told that we shouldnt transition because "the world doesnt need more men". this post was not about you. you dont have to transition. but like, understand that if you did ever want to transition, you wouldnt be doing anything wrong. you wouldnt be taking away from women by transitioning. trans men are not taking anything away from women by transitioning. transitioning is just about feeling happy and comfortable in your own body, and there currently is no way to "treat" gender dysphoria besides just transitioning. and if there was, i guarantee you that there would still be a lot of people who just transition anyway, because transitioning is not morally wrong. and i think that you believing that if you transitioned then you would be doing something wrong and hurting women is only hurting you. if you consider yourself a woman, then you should also care about hurting yourself as much as you care about other women. hell, you could transition and still be a woman if thats what you wanted for yourself at some point. if transphobia didnt exist i think a lot of people who identify as cis (as in being born/assigned a sex and identifying with that as their gender) would also transition to some degree, i know a couple of cis people who have
ultimately, im not here to tell you anything about your gender. you identify how you identify. i dont know you, youve just had this note in my reblogs for months and ive been thinking about it. but i think you should consider that you are also a woman and you should sometimes think about yourself and your own needs and desires. and that if what you need and desire is to transition, that its not taking away from women. you don't need to sacrifice your own mental health for feminism, no matter what other feminists say you need to do. if you are a woman just as much as any other woman that you are trying to protect and uplift, you should also protect and uplift yourself. if that means living as a gender dysphoric woman and not doing anything about it, then thats your choice. but being in this environment where you are being told that if you did transition that you would be hurting women isnt good for you. its not good for anyone, really, but especially not you or any other gender dysphoric woman. there is a place for you in the world, and there should also be a place for people like you/us who decide to transition about it
