I cant stop thinking about that robber fly that drowned. Like to me it is symbolic with living in an environment you cannot survive in but pretending you can, masking your reactions and struggles because you believe it keeps you safe but it does not get you help. If it had been visibly struggling, I would have saved it. I was completely convinced it could breathe underwater because of the way it was perched at the bottom and calmly looking up at the surface like it was waiting to ambush something. It was dying.

I got stung by a wasp for the first time a few weeks ago (since I got this job) and it was my fault. Was blindly fumbling around the hydrangea leaves to prune them and almost squished a paper wasp resting underneath. She let me know she was there lol. And then I was kinda honored. Like wow I finally got stung. Then a customer came in a few days later and was talking about how she got stung for the first time that morning and I unthinkingly blurted “wow congrats” forgetting that most people don’t have a morbid fascination with wasps.

Today I found a robber fly just chilling underwater in one of the fountains at work and I was like “Whoa I didn’t know they could breathe underwater.” Then I went to lunch and was trying to look up robber flies that can breathe underwater but I couldn’t find anything on them. Just about how they are desert ambush hunters. Weird. Then I came back and checked on it and it was fucking dead. It really couldn’t breathe underwater. Buddy what were you doing 😭
