My first multimedia piece! I gave myself extra time for this one, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. I was inspired by the road leading up to Thornton Hall, it sets the tone of the game perfectly right from the start. I wanted to convey the ethereal nature of Thornton Hall and it’s hauntings— not to mention the blurry visions from all the carbon monoxide— so I used watercolor to paint the silhouettes of trees in the background. The Thornton family was rigid in their understanding of the world and their greed in protecting what they considered to be theirs, so the gate is in a bold black stitching. The mist is made from cotton batting, I wanted to tie the piece together with some 3D elements and I’m excited about how it turned out! I love seeing other people’s art for this game especially, I feel like it’s so rich in symbolism and the visual aesthetics are *chef’s kiss*

I was not expecting to be so inspired by this game, but this is probably my favorite piece I've done! Malone's dogs honestly make this game come alive for me. The richness of the old prohibition-era grandeur is electric, from the details in each setting to the music to the mystery itself. And the dogs are central to it all, so I wanted to capture that energy that is established in the game from the very first puzzle. I took some liberties with the symbolism for each dog, mostly because I didn't want to sew a bunch of swans lol, but I wanted to keep the imagery from the poem and remix it into a sort of 1920s art deco style. And as a bonus I did the dog's eyes in a special thread that makes them glow!!

Does anyone else remember, years ago, when HeR shared a Hardy Boys quote from The Haunted Carousel but they didn't know how to trigger that quote in the game? So it became this crrrazy online contest for WEEKS where fans were all replaying the game over and over again trying to find the quote?

Then HeR came back after further investigation and announced that the quote was removed from the game's coding entirely jsdjahshda so it was never even possible to get it in the first place?

I've been trying to google search for posts from that time, but I'm coming up empty. I wanted to remember what the missing quote was

I'm pretty sure the one I'm thinking of was originally shared in a blog post, and it was put out into the community with the premise of "hey, we found this soundbyte in our CAR files and we thought it would be a fun mystery for you guys to try and find it!". I would assume it was the Amateur Sleuth blog at the time (unless it was older than that, rip).

I think the quote consisted of a line said by Frank, then a line said by Joe. Something about the carousel...

OKAY OKAY I HAVE VINDICATION THAT THIS WAS A REAL THING AND I'M NOT JUST GASLIGHTING MYSELF

^^ I found this old thread on the HeR boards discussing the missing quote post - but nobody actually says what the quote was! According to this, the blog post would have been shared in late January 2008 (which is why it doesn't show up in any searches- even the older DtP blog archives only go back to '09).

I'm not sure what the next move is, but I'm glad and relieved to have made it this far 😂

So In the January 2008 newsletter they sent out this which includes a quote that sounds like CAR. Refer to number 8. I saw a forum post from end of Jan of 2008 where people thought it was a hint to VEN because they couldn’t find it. I haven’t played CAR in forever so I honestly don’t remember if this is it.

Next up, lanyards!! Here’s the deal: I’ve made a product mock-up and I want to know if this is something we’re interested in. Because of minimum order quantities (sadly I lack the ability and resources to make these myself in the studio), I’d need to sell about 30 of them during the preorder period to bring these to life. They’d be $10 (+shipping) during preorders and if there’s enough interest, you could have them in your hands as early as the first week of January, factoring in production time and shipping delays. Drop a comment in the replies/reblogs if you’d purchase during preorders and be sure to reblog to help me reach as many interested parties as possible! I can’t bring these lanyards to life without your support 🖤

Remember, this is just a mock-up, but it should look pretty much exactly like this! After preorders, a very limited amount would remain available to purchase normally in the shop, but it’s doubtful I would be able to restock these regularly (again because of the minimum order quantities).
