I haven’t posted anything in forever but I might as well introduce my system a bit more. I know I said I was going to be anonymous but I said that like a year ago right??

Hi, I’m Tori/Lunori 🌙, I’m the host/“original” (though I don’t really like to use that word too much). I have another online identity so I can’t really put too much about myself here. I really like the color blue.

Gender: Girl, She/her, but it’s fine to use others too.

Eia/Soleia☀️, she’s a tulpa! She just recently became vocal. Her hair is super intricate and pretty. She also doesn’t have a set eye color, sometimes it’s purple, sometimes it’s orange and sometimes it matches mine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

She was very very loosely based on Kiara Takanashi originally but I think the only things that remain of that are her bright personality and orange hair. She doesn’t consider herself a fictive.

I love being plural. I love all the quiet moments on the bus, or in the kitchen while my roommate’s home, where one of my headmates will whisper something funny to me and I’ll laugh even though I don’t mean to. I’ll hope that no one heard, but maybe they did, and for a moment I’ll think that that’s alright. My experience of being plural is all soft and warm and comforting and it’s not my problem if someone else sees me talking to myself and thinks it’s scary or strange. I don’t deserve to be ashamed of myself just because other people would be ashamed to be me. For a moment, being plural is something I’m proud of in the same way that I’m proud to be trans.

But eventually, reality will set in. I don’t feel comfortable being openly neurodivergent in public, in fact, I think it’s a very narrow slice of neurodivergent people who have the privilege of choosing not to mask. I still try my best not to laugh on the bus, and I only tell people I’m plural if I’m absolutely sure I can trust them.

But it’s hard not to feel ashamed of yourself, living like that, where basic facts about your existence are tightly guarded secrets. If there’s nothing wrong with me for being like this, why do I live in fear of anyone finding out? I wish I could come out as plural like I came out as trans. Maybe one day, people will be able to be out as plural like that. Some people already can, and do, but I’m not one of them. Maybe someday I will be, when I’m in a better situation, but not today.

Being plural is something to be proud of. Being plural is not inherently disordered or bad or wrong or unhealthy or shameful, and even if you do experience plurality in a disordered way it’s still not wrong and it’s still not something to be ashamed of. My headmates have saved my life a hundred times over. They fill even the worst parts of my life with joy because they love me and I love them and nothing can take that away from us. To me, being plural is a beautiful, radical thing, and it’s okay if you don’t experience it that way, but you have to respect that this is how it is for me, and I’m never going to stop being proud about it. I’m never going to stop being proud about it even if I go my whole life keeping it a secret, even if I can never express it in public. I wouldn’t trade this way of existing for the world.

Another Plural headcanon that’s not really a headcanon: Birdy the Mighty /Tetsuwan Birdy

No idea why I watched this show as a young teen but this show has both an OVA (Tetsuwan birdy) and a rebooted anime (Tetsuwan Birdy:Decode) This one is also a fan-servicy shounen just like Rosario+Vampire but the action scenes are really good and Birdy is super strong and defies the whole damsel in distress trope that’s so common in shounen.

Minor spoilers just for the first parts

Basically while beating up a bad guy named Geega, A space federation officer named Birdy accidentally kills a random student named Tsutomu, Tsutomu wakes up thinking it was a dream.

The OVA and anime diverge a bit here, with the anime having him think he’s all alone and getting told by birdy who was in his brain that he’s not.

The OVA has Birdy take possession of his hand durning the admissions test and writes down all the answers super fast. He tries to stop the hand with his other hand after getting weirded out. Also when Birdy finally mind speaks in the OVA the translated English literally says “Let’s switch now” which is tulpa/plural terminology!!!

After a few more weird occurrences it’s explained that Birdy and Tsutomu have to share Birdy’s body for a while because his body needs to be reconstructed. Tsutomu kinda has to live his normal while Birdy typically switches back in whenever there’s another bad guy(or to get… ice cream?).

The OVA has the COOLEST switching transforms btw, Enough for me to go watch the whole OVA because I only ever saw the first season of the anime.

So more plural references/proof from the OVA, even though it’s kinda clear that they’re already canonically plural though.

-While eating dinner his sister asks him “Did you make up a new imaginary friend lately” referring to the fact that Tsutomu keeps talking to Birdy out loud. This also leads to weird scenarios where other people think he’s talking to them when he’s just talking to Birdy.

-When in danger, Birdy tries to switch, but can’t and says “We can’t switch until you open up your consciousness” Which is similar to how some systems have to have the person switched in become relaxed before switching

-Birdy can possess parts of the body while Tsutomu is technically switched in.

The tulpa discourse is so weird?

Sorry but the vast amount of tulpamancers aren’t even on tumblr? It’s dumb to change a term that connects us to research, media, tv episodes, Ted talks, huge communities, resources, etc. There are different languages that use a derived version of ‘Tulpa’ such as ‘タルパ’ (Tarupa) for the Japanese community.

Just because because a handful of already anti endo people/systems said that it was cultural appropriation, even when there are Tibetan Buddhists that don’t think it’s cultural appropriation. It’s not even the original word, is a mashup of Tulku and Sprul-pa. It’s not a word that existed, and the practice of tulpamancy has almost nothing to do with Tulku or Sprul-pa.

So say if we banded together and tried to change the term like suggested. How many tulpa systems would actually change. Probably not too many, just the tulpa systems on tumblr. Can we really get the majority of systems who use other websites like Reddit, discord, forums, etc to change? What about websites like Tulpa.info and Tulpa.io? Do we have to abandon those too?

So let me get this straight, we lose websites, major parts of the community, representation, research and almost all resources, for what? To please the anti endos who already don’t like us? Sorry but I’d rather make anti endos mad. I usually prefer to be respectful even to people with different opinions but not when that means dividing a whole community.

I don’t usually post about syscourse but I think this is a really dumb argument.

I'd like to add a point Sophie made about a reality where tulpa websites change their domain names, thus breaking COUNTLESS links to posts and resources. I didn't even consider that when I made my original post, and it just further highlights how damaging changing the term would be to a community that is reliant on these resources.

Like I said, the vast majority of the people trying to label "tulpa" as a racist word lack basic understanding of the fundamental aspects of the argument, including the community. They don't understand how our community works, they don't understand the community's culture, they shouldn't have any say of what goes on in it. Edit: Oh, by the way, even if we did somehow drop "tulpa," sh!tty horror media like Mandela Catalogue, Slenderman, and more would continue to use it and would just further perpetuate the paranormal definition of the term that again, deliberately links itself to Tibetan Buddhism as this, "OooOooh! Spooky Tibetan Buddhist practice that lets you create demons that will try and kill you!!!" shtick.
