“some people don’t deserve redemption” redemption isn’t something that’s deserved, it’s something someone does. it’s making the choice to change the way you live your life, to be better, to do good things instead of bad things and try to make up for the bad things. and everyone can and should do that, at any time, no matter what they’ve done. we can’t change the past, but we can choose what kind of person to be now and in the future. we have the responsibility to do so. it is so completely not about “deserving.”
People are unfazed if you hate women but if you dislike dogs they assume you're a bad person
Tumblr users will read a post complaining about normalized misogyny and hyperfocus on your claim that it's ok to dislike dogs
The Odyssey but retold as a low-stakes modern adventure of one guy out with his girlfriend leaving the bar with his buddies to do just one (1) simple thing real quick, it'll take like 15 minutes tops, he'll be right back, but then some bullshit happens and the trip keeps getting more complicated as more bullshit keeps happening while he just tries to get back to the bar because he promised his girlfriend that he'd get back and he knows that she's still there because she told him she'd wait there.
And by the time he finally gets back it's almost 3 am and the bar is about to close while she's sitting there stone cold sober, surrounded by 5 drunk guys unsuccessfully trying to convince her to give up on waiting for him and go home with one of them instead. And the guy shows up to proceed to beat the shit out of them before explaining himself to her like hey sorry bullshit kept happening, my phone fell into a storm drain and my wallet got stolen when I was trying to find someone who'd borrow me a phone so I could call and
His girlfriend had been fending off the 5 drunk guys for most of the evening by explaining that even if she was going to ditch her boyfriend, she can't possibly leave without finishing her beer, which she is keeping perpetually full via careful sleight of hand where she's just pouring it back and forth into and out of the pitcher.
However the drunk guys are also drinking, and eventually she can't afford to buy another pitcher for the table so she can't keep up the ever-full beer glass trick. At this point she has to resort to setting up the pool trick shot that she's never seen anyone but her boyfriend pull off, and says she'll leave with whoever manages the shot first.
That buys her another hour or so and then, finally, her boyfriend makes it back. He looks like shit, hair down and just a mess, he's wearing an entirely different jacket that he got from an alley, and barely recognizable—especially to 5 guys who've been drunk for hours now. He lurks for a minute, finds out what's going on, and proceeds to pull off the trick shot first try. Throws the jacket off, fixes his hair with a hair tie his girlfriend lends him, finally looks like himself again, and THEN beats the shit out of them with the pool cue.
here's my cat for your dash btw. if you even care
Your therapist can't diagnose people you talk about in session, including confirming armchair diagnoses that you made.
Any commentary they make in response to you raising the issue of someone else's diagnoses should be something to the effect of "it's possible that they have x disorder, but it's more important to focus on how their behavior affects you / the relationship."
If your therapist says "you parents are narcissists" or "your ex is a sociopath," that either didn't happen, or they're creating an ethical violation.
They aren't allowed to diagnose someone who isn't their client, i.e. has consented to treatment.
Even if they were allowed to do that, your secondhand account of that person doesn't constitute an assessment.
Even if they were allowed to do that and could use your secondhand account, they wouldn't be able to tell you about someone else's diagnoses because of confidentiality.
Further, your therapist can't diagnose you with "narcissistic abuse syndrome" etc. because it doesn't exist. There are no legitimate diagnoses based on the (speculative!!!) diagnoses of an abuser; you're likely talking about complex PTSD, which commonly results from abuse (including emotional abuse).
I don't trust therapists who slap diagnoses on their clients' abusers. You shouldn't either. You should know the basics of clinical boundaries and the correct terms for things so that you don't feed into stigma or put up with a therapist who's willing to engage in unethical practice.
If they're focused on diagnosing your abuser, they've got blinders on and won't be able to objectively evaluate your situation to help you heal. Ultimately, telling someone that their abuser is a special type of person and they have a special type of trauma rather than focusing on behavior, impact, and symptoms isn't good therapy and it won't help you heal.
i love how white people are supposed to be graciously forgiven for having a racist past because "they were kids and didn't know any better" but no one gives a flying fuck about the black kids that were subjected to brutal racist bullying during their childhoods. bullying that we're still subject to today because nothing has changed. white people were not being racist to some amorphous, unfeeling entity in some vacuous, isolated section of the internet, they were hurling slurs, racist "jokes"/imagery and antiblackness at REAL ACTUAL CHILDREN while gaslighting and mocking us for being upset, and no one gives a fuck!! we're just supposed to forgive these people who are never sorry and never will be and if not we're the problem and im so sick of it
Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
this tiktok screenshot ruined my life i need to see the serbian pigeon movie so so badly but it doesn't exist it's so foul to make this bad of a point with something so cool and then take it away from me.
Tiktok marvel fans really will be out here like "movie fan SHOCKED because i'd rather watch superhero movie #54 in blue and not a sensual 1987 french horror film about a man discovering his wife may not exist set in what is gradually revealed to be a space station" as if you're supposed to agree that superhero movie #54 is the clear winner in this comparison
Love the idea of a story about a complex issue that's told from the perspective of something that cannot comprehend or care about the issue. The way the story would be sliced up and moments that a human would consider pointless would be focused on because the pigeon happened to be there would be hype as fuck
Ok FINE I made the movie poster of it
Mališa, otherwise known as Little One, is a pet pigeon owned by a conservative butler of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. She is loved, and she is pampered— until her owner is murdered in cold blood, and she is left to fend for herself in Sarajevo.
In the wilds of the city, she feeds from the poor, working nationalist radicals, and the vieux riches alike.
To Mališa, there are no ethical concerns. No politics. No burgeoning nationalism.
There are only hands that feed her, and hands that do not.
This is compelling. Consider me fucking compelled.
Final shot is the bird hearing, but not seeing, the sound of a .32 ACP pistol, and flying away in shock
"From the studio that brought you Goncharov...."
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought "why do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff," so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? It's alright if you can't because apparently I fuckin couldn't either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you don't need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like let's say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
The way I know most people will only focus on Santos being mean about that stupid turmeric lady and completely ignore the fact that she only interacted with her because McKay, her superior, wanted HER help in diagnosing her patient because Santos is very skilled and has a good track record with catching unusual issues with the patients. Something immediately proven with how quickly Santos was able to catch the turmeric thing.
Trinity Santos you fucking icon.
Haven’t watched the whole ep yet but a while back my mom started taking turmeric in milk every day to help manage her arthritis. Unfortunately she didn’t think to look up dosages because, like a lot of people would, she just assumed you can’t overdose on it. So she would just measure it based on vibes.
She started getting huge weird bruises all over and was freaking out panicking because her dad died of leukemia and that was one of his first symptoms. Turns out yeah turmeric is a blood thinner if you take too much of it. Especially because she was taking ibuprofen every day on top of it.
So yeah it’s absolutely possible to overdo it on turmeric or any other remedy and it’s not just dumb people doing it. We tend to assume things like that are 100% safe because they’re used in food and are “natural”, whatever that means. Compounding problem is otc supplements aren’t regulated the way pharmaceuticals are so you don’t know how much you’re getting and there’s no standardized dosage schedule.
But the thing is the amount you need to consume to cause harm is a very large amount. There are people who regularly consume turmeric all their lives and never reach that threshold because it's part of their culture. Also, if you take it in capsule form there are definitely instructions for how much to take a day.
This is just another case of white people appropriating with actual consequences this time.
This is also why we talk to professionals about how much to take. There are even professionals who deal with herbs that are there to guide you. This lady in the show literally admits to having a naturopath and actively going against instructions to take 5 of something she should've only been taking 1. Willfully ignoring and going against the experts around you is pretty different.
I literally just said that my mother should have googled a dosage before she started taking it. I wasn’t even really responding to the show or your original post as much as the person who was wondering how someone overdoses on turmeric. I thought I’d share as a cautionary tale.
Also you seem to think I’m demonizing turmeric or any other cultural or “alternative” remedy. I’m not. I know that turmeric has legitimate anti inflammatory properties. But it’s completely untrue that it’s particularly difficult to overdose on it or any supplement. The fact is that the supplement industry, in the US anyway, is completely unregulated and it’s a serious problem. Many people who have a legitimate distrust of pharmaceutical companies view anything labeled as a supplement as inherently harmless and impossible to overdo it on. That’s just not true, and the negative effects are not limited to white girls in saris or whatever.
Are the dosages on the supplement bottles standardized or does each brand say different shit? Because I’m talking about STANDARDIZED dosages, potential side effects listed on the label, drug interaction warnings, etc. Ya know. Like pharmaceuticals are. I think supplements should be taken seriously and regulated like any other medicine. That is all.
Banging my gong to emphasise the point made above… turmeric supplements also legally don’t have to prove to anyone that they have turmeric in them. They can fill them with yellow chalk powder. Supplements are completely and entirely unregulated, which is part of why the profits in that industry are so fucking obscene: they never have to test or research anything.
