What an archaeologist means: paleontology and archaeology are such different disciplines and the words sound totally different to me, and one is about lizards and one is about people, and I don't understand how people confuse them and I'm also really really tired of people asking me about dinosaurs

Is there one Truth (with a capital T)? Can there be multiple truths?
Jewish tradition grapples with this problem by declaring that we will not figure it out. That may seem strange, but we are not expected to figure it out. In the Jewish world, such enigmas can be answered with the word, teyku, a Talmudic Aramaic term that means, literally, “let it stand” or “let it be.” The word is interpreted as an acronym for Tishbi yitaretz kushiot uva’ayot, meaning “Elijah the prophet (the ‘Tishabite’) will answer such questions (at the end of time).” In other words, some questions simply cannot be answered by us, though we are nevertheless expected to grapple with them and the implications they raise. The universe is just too overwhelming, and the greatness of God beyond imagination. Yet we are instructed to keep striving to understand.
Our Tanach includes many portions and stories that struggle with these issues without providing a final answer. Job, who suffers immeasurably, learns that no one is wise enough to give an account of the heavens (Job 38:37). And while Ecclesiastes considers it all a “striving after wind” (Ecclesiastes 1:14), the author continues striving nevertheless.
Our tradition does not expect us to find the answers to the riddle of Truth, but it does expect us to grapple with the questions. In Jewish tradition, the unity and oneness of God does not require a unity of opinion and belief. In fact, it teaches the opposite. Judaism stresses engagement in a process of struggling to understand, a process that ideally includes engaging in the quest with others. It will never provide “the” answer, but the very process of seeking and trying out answers, according to both Torah and Talmud, is in itself a spiritual act. - Rabbi Reuven Firestone
“We don’t know the answer to this difficult question and that’s okay” is such a crucially important principle in Judaism.
I’m inclined to think that it’s related to the principle that what we do is more important than what we believe. Questions of practice have to be answered so that we know what to do in a given situation, and they can be answered different ways by different authorities, and that’s also okay; questions of belief don’t actually ever need to be answered.
Why, if God is just, does it ever happen that the wicked prosper or the righteous suffer? Why, if God is all-knowing and all-powerful and all-benevolent, does suffering exist at all? What is God really, how old is the universe, how big is the universe, what did it look like when the universe came into being, what happens to us when we die? Those are all great questions, and we should never be too sure we know what the answers are, and we don’t need to know the answers in order to do right by each other.

so weightwatchers released an app for kids - a diet app for kids (!!!!) down to the age of eight (8) years old.
this is literally an app that is supposed to have children track their food intake, and their energy output, every damn day, with the purpose of them losing weight. it does before and after photos, and uses this system that is a “stoplight system”, so bad foods are red, medium is yellow and good is green.
when you sign up you have to put in your goal and one of the choices is “to make my parents proud”.
this is basically an app designed to shame children, and indoctrinate eating disorders into them.
what the hell is wrong with people????!!!!
also, apparently oprah is supporting this shit so screw her.
i am so damn mad. this is child abuse, and the weightwatchers cult is making money off of it.

My amazing boss just promoted me. The thing about her is that she is a heavy heavy drinker. She always has a glass of whiskey in her hand in business meetings. When she invited me into her office she poured one for me. But instead of whiskey I tasted tea. Turned out that she had a special decanter. Depending on how you pour you can get either tea or whiskey. She has been using it to trick insecure men who can't handle a woman out drinking them for decades. Thats how she always got the best deals
