I’m not exactly in the great gatsby fandom or anything approaching but this au stuck itself to my head about a week ago and wouldn’t leave
I’m tired and stuff so please excuse any weirdness but I had to share this lore dump idea, there is like no punctuation sorry
Idk why but I was thinking about the great gatsby in a futuristic au where everyone wants to modify themselves with robotics to achieve the benefits of being superhuman. The old money rich people modify themselves discreetly but the newer ones who benefited off of some war replace almost every part they can because they believe it is the future. It is Daisy who wants more than anything to fly like Icarus did, high above the clouds but feel no fall, but everyone knows Icarus’s hubris brought him down.
it is G823, who once was a soldier that Daisy may have loved but had every part of him replaced and replicated to be sleek and robotic except for his brain, his eyes, and his heart. He seeks to find Daisy again through her cousin Nick, who himself is completely unmodified but grows enthralled with the idea of being eternal simply because G823 makes it seem so appealing. They meet Jordan who coaxes Nick into getting an eye attachment that glazes over his left eye and makes it neon shifting on his thoughts but the second it is implanted he throws up and decides no more permanent implantations. Daisy comes across G823, someone she almost knew and almost knows and tries to figure out if she can love someone who replaced themselves almost entirely for her and if she ever loved and she thinks on the ship of Theseus and whether this applies, and he makes her wings of wax like Icarus but she too falls, but is saved by a jet of her husband’s making. With this she remembers the comforts of her life with her husband and which brand of artificial she should choose. G823 wants to run away with her but she crashes their shuttle into the house of her husband’s mistress and finds she would rather find a way out than a way deeper into intricacies of the world and lets G823 take the blame because it is easier and runs away with her husband while her husband’s mistress’s husband pushes G823 into the water, destroying him. In the end it is only Nick who goes to the funeral of G823, he blinds himself in his left eye by ripping out his implant out of grief and finds he is drowning in how choices and dreams have killed his anchor to life who he himself couldn’t understand if he was truly living

Click the link in this post, it will lead you to the itch.io page for the game, choose either mac or windows/linux and click download. You will get a zip file, rightclick and choose 'extract all', you will then have an unzipped folder in which you can find the exe file. It should have a little apollo icon aswell but im not sure if that worked on mac.
Content warnings:
Very minor warning for threats and non consensual grabbing of a woman by a man, murder, and suicide via metamorphosis. It's really a lighthearted game but it still does reference all that stuff even if it's in a comedic context.

All assets (music, code, sprites, backgrounds) in this game are human made, I can personally verify the code and sprites because I made them myself and I really did my best to make sure the backgrounds were real footage of greece and the lovely background music was a human composition, original creators are credited in the game under 'Info & Credits'. If something somehow still slipped through the cracks then I apologize <3

What if i actually didn’t write my finals and instead wrote an fic where Apollo contemplates the ethics of him being worshiped in Hyperborea as both the god of the sun (global warming) and a god of civilization and the colonial implications of that very ethnocentric concept (the arctic paradox).
Boreas is sitting next to him like “dude what the fuck are you talking about it’s literally 2000 BC and Earth is literally just coming out of an ice age.”
One of my thoughts is that Apollo wouldn't care had it been Thamyris that Hyacinthus had chosen instead of him. he would actually be happy, what angers him is Thamyris' hubris
but Thamyris is stupid, stupid enough to brag about being better than the muses
I actually wholeheartedly agree, and I hate when people make it seem like Apollo was involved with Thamyris’ punishment because he wanted Hyacinth for himself or something.
