Stuff like this always makes me remember how sensationalized the “hide your kids, hide your wife” video was, also known as the “bedroom intruder meme” 🗿.

The guy was clearly one of the earliest memes of a black person expressing frustration publicly (it was a news report of the man explaining how he’d run off a predator trying to rape his sister by the way) but in a “funny way” (the way that nbs and whites find entertaining at least because they don’t see black trauma as something that should be given grace, and shown empathy right from the very start over their own intial enjoyment because that’s no fun), and something like this became a huge joke. Like, this meme was literally everywhere in the early 2000’s, and I think people forgot that his sister was almost raped 🧍🏾‍♀️…………………………..!

#I did not enjoy identity Francis Fukuyama #I thought the conclusions it jumped to were bizarre #I knew nothing about the author before I read it #and the book was steeped in America-centric nationalism that I not only disagree with fundamentally #but his version of it was just so outdated and inapplicable for the current day #not the most egregious but I remember him being against dual citizenship #on the basis of ‘what if there’s a war between the two countries’#and like ig that would be difficult but if you have ties to both countries it would be tough anyway regardless of if you actually have #the passport or not #as a dual citizen #also even practically a lot of countries allow themselves to terminate a second citizenship in the event of a war with the first #so like total moot point #and very clearly anti-immigrant #also he was very pro national service for men as a social bonding and identity building exercise #like dude just send them to Boy Scouts if you must #in general it had a ‘let’s solve a perceived social problem with the most nationalist solution and this will be good actually’#also it kind of annoys me in general when something is marketed as being universally applicable when it’s clearly written specifically for #America #less serious answer it that was then and this is now by SE Hinton #which I read as a kid cause I liked the outsiders #very mean spirited book

pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.

I just love that this very video is an accumulation of thousands of years worth of art made by people who have never met each other. The concept of this video was so completely unfathomable to every single artist who made the sculptures and yet they’ve all put something toward the creation of it.
