As long as I’m awake way past my bedtime anyway, I suspect the kids went to that confrontation not expecting it to be the final boss battle that would finish everything – they knew something else had to be done, and I suspect the trolls were off working on that at the same time.

If the trolls weren’t off doing something equally important, I’m not sure there’s anything in paradox space that could have kept Vriska off the team, and I don’t think they’d want to. She’s god tier, and whatever else she is, she’s handy in a boss battle.

(I think something like the fight HAD to happen, even with the retcon powers, because Caliborn’s use of the juju was necessary for the retcon powers to exist. The whole thing might collapse.) (Vriska not dying nullified the circumstances under which the retcon powers were accessed, but not their existence.)

So if the B1 kids have been sucked into a meta-breaking item that could potentially result in their essence being woven into the narrative like John’s arms and such were, then there are a few recurring colors that suddenly make sense for more than just symbolic reasons. this fucking comic, I swear
