no no trust me THIS system of categorizing people into one of two categories with no nuance will work perfectly
"but have you considered that MY system of categorizing people into one of two categories with no nuance isn't what this post is about"
so someone added the following response to this post:
TME/TMA is not about splitting people into two categories. It's about bringing awareness to the extremely current and pressing issue of transmisoginy [sic] (like this post right here) by saying whether you're affected by it (every transfem) or not affected by it (everyone who isn't transfem). Its not a binary in the sense of forcing people to be something they aren't, it's a binary in the sense of whether you face transmisoginy [sic] firsthand. It's not an end all be all of identity, and hopefully it doesn't have to stick around forever. But we will only stop using it when the queer community starts listening to and respecting trans women, which will never happen if people like you refuse to learn. Yes, were taking up space in the community. Yes, it feels inconvenient for TMA people. That's the damn point. But making noise is the only way people will pay attention to transmisoginy [sic].
and i wanna preface this by saying do not go into the reblogs and find the person who said this and harass them. i think 19 year olds are allowed to be angry at the world and wrong and i don't think they should be harassed for that
but that being said. normally i wouldn't comment on this kinda thing but im going to in this instance because this is exactly the fucking thing i'm talking about
you can't say "TME/TMA is not about splitting people into two categories" and then also say "whether you're affected by it (every transfem) or not affected by it (everyone who isn't transfem)"! that is quite literally two categories that you are splitting people into!
also to be clear this post is not an example of transmisogyny. a trans woman* who is older than you and has more life experience than you saying "i personally dislike this framework and think it lacks nuance about how transmisogyny operates based on my life experiences as a trans woman" is not actually transmisogynistic and this thing where we just call people disagreeing with us transmisogyny is part of why this website is so stupid about it
(one of) the reason(s) there are transfeminists** on this website who complain about it is because it lacks nuance! hey that's what the original post is about! before we even talk about how it could be construed as intersexist or how people use "tme" specifically to mean transmascs on here, we're just gonna talk about how it's not even that good at doing what it's supposed to do because whether someone is affected by transmisogyny isn't a binary value. sometimes people are and sometimes they aren't. sometimes people are but only around certain people. it's not a boolean and the distribution is certainly not every transfem is and everyone else is not, good lord
*yes, there are trans women who don't like the tme/tma framework! crazy since its defenders love saying people who dislike it are secretly transmascs pretending to be trans women, which definitely isn't transmisogynistic or anything
**transfeminism is actually a coherent set of beliefs and not "that trans woman agrees with me". i know that's kinda hard to believe. and much like feminism as a rule, there's all kinds of minute variations in what transfeminists believe! isn't that crazy?
