i feel like what people tend to overlook about Oikawa's growth after the timeskip is how he learns to take care of himself. He's in a new country, no friends, no family, no iwa to tell him to slow down or else. He learned the hard way that he can train as hard as he wants but there's no one there to take care of him when his body inevitably gives out on him....
so i feel like when you come into his life, contrary to fanon portrayal, he does actually have a healthy balance between his professional and personal life. he knows what it's like to have no one look after you so now that he has you, he isn't going to take that for granted. he's grateful to have such a supportive partner who doesn't mind when he has to train longer than he should sometimes, but he takes care of himself for you too. Oikawa now knows he can't be who he wants to be if he can barely take care of himself, so now he knows when to rest for his sake and for yours.
and I do feel like that also translates with how he takes care of you...he constantly reminds you to take care of yourself because he knows what overworking yourself can do and he doesn't want that to happen to you. he takes care of you in the way he wished someone did when he moved to Argentina, and he loves how you still think he's the best when he feels guilty sometimes for taking breaks for himself
i was talking about this with @tetsunormous and it put me in intense oikawa brainrot...and if you know me i am not an oikawa fucker but now im in love with him.....
I think it’s really sad that people overlook oikawa and his development. He moved somewhere new, had to learn a new language, had to learn to push all his fears aside to reach the potential he knew was inside of him. He did all of that yet no one talks about how hard and lonely it must of been for him to take a step back and learn to take care of himself. No one talks about how difficult and homesick he must of felt when no one was there to tell him to rest or to go home when all his life his best friend would look out for him.
He’s grown so much since hs and it feels unfair to him that people don’t pay attention to that. He would undoubtedly grow into someone who will push you to be your best while continuously reminding you to take care of yourself. He would be such a loyal and compassionate partner because he knows what it’s like to be alone and to feel like he’s not enough even when surrounded by people who support him. Oikawa Torū deserves to be loved for who he is.
Also, if you aren’t analyzing characters with your friends…are you really having fun?
