@xprincessjasmineex
Anyway this disability pride month I would like to shoutout disabled folks whose creativity has suffered because of their condition. I’m talking people with hand tremors and pain that stop them from drawing, knitting, and playing instruments. People whose thinking has become so disorganized that nothing they write makes sense to other people. People with chronic pain who can no longer dance. People so over medicated in a fruitless attempt to maintain stability that the wells of their imagination have run dry.
I see you and I love you. You are more than your creative output. You are not a shell of what you used to be. You are a whole, complete person, regardless of what your creativity has been, is now, or will be in the future.
the idea that every summer will be as hot if not hotter than this for the rest of my life is unbearable i need to (remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health) murder an oil executive
Jesus FUCK it's hot out. It's so hot I, a fortysormthing adult male, walked through some sprinklers. It's so hot out I stayed in a Walgreens waiting for the bus. It's so hot out the local pizza place turned their ovens off.
It's so hot out I considered joining a REVOLUTIONARY ORGANIZATION TARGETING THE GOVERNMENT TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GASES BOILING THE PLANET ALIVE LIKE what here's a funny meme about stoplights melting.
Jesus fuck.
I have lived in Austin, Texas and Tucson, Arizona but I currently exist in fucking CHICAGO ILLINOIS THIS IS NOT NORMAL.
When you're a kid you just take trees for granted. Then when you get to be an adult you realize that a fully mature tree cannot be created in an amount of time that fits in a convenient landscaping timeframe for love nor money nor all the powers of science. Then you realize that people are very very very cavalier about chopping them down
having many trinkets and books is so cool and fun until you realize you have to dust them
i get why people don't believe in marriage as a social construct but legally it is the best and easiest way to say "this is who i trust to take care of me when i can't take care of myself" and i'm so glad gay people fought for that right bc when shit gets scary at least i know im in good hands
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
It’s called ‘being able to see the corpse’
So if I put you in an L-shaped swimming pool, and you knew there was a corpse around the corner, you'd be fine?
loving the implication that I'm a little animal and you're a scientist putting me into various bodies of water to test my corpse:water ratio tolerance
For all its faults Tumblr has truly ruined all other social media for me because my friends all have Instagram and are all trying to get me on Instagram more but every time I open Instagram there are like fifteen things screaming for my attention and when I get over myself long enough to start scrolling it's like. Where is my chronological dash. Where is the following-only option. Who are these people. Why are there so many videos. Everyone is screaming at me. And then before I know it I'm thirty minutes into scrolling and I haven't seen a single thing that I actually care about. At least on Tumblr when I see stuff I don't care about I know someone I follow has found a new interest.
You ever notice how a washing machine 10 minutes is actually about 17 minutes human time
choosing to ignore my strangely symbolic dream
Humanity is varied. Meaning their minds are also varied. Meaning neurotypical and neurodivergent aren't things you can really sort different human minds with. The mind can be disordered and cause stress and problems, but like 90% of those problems is because of strict labeling and sorting what isn't sortable.
The pathologizing and not stopping of the cycle of abuse, causing trauma and other issues. Instead of properly handling the causes of harm on the mind, people just pathologize and medicate and toss people into wards and institutionalization etc.
Is that person autistic or are they just communicating differently?
There's symptoms that cause physical issues and mental distress and they are worth looking into.
But how many of these "mental disorders" are cause by factors society can actually change?
I'll give you a hint: most of them can be prevented, starting with not alienating your fellow human that behaves differently than you, and ending the cycle of abuse.
Not to be the world's youngest boomer but I hate that everything's trying to be touchscreens now
Washing machines and stoves and all that ought to have dials. It's not right for them to not have dials. Put them back they can't breathe
WAIT A SECOND YEAH. THIS IS PART OF THE PUSH TO MAKE TECH MORE INTIMIDATING AND LESS REPARABLE ISN'T IT. Tech CEOs when I get my hands on you
I especially hate the trend of touchscreens in cars. You should be able to control everything in a car without taking your eyes off the road, not be required to navigate through nested menus on a flat surface with no tactile response that forces you to look at it!
On the plus side, I have seen news stories saying that the European Union and China are both at least considering regulations requiring tactile controls in cars, and other news stories saying carmakers are realizing that touchscreens are bad for usability on their own, so hopefully buttons and knobs will be back to stay soon.
This is the first time in my life when it's actually fair to criticize the President for gas prices. I've spent so many years explaining to people that Presidents have pretty limited influence over the price of oil and that they do not have a magical lower-gas-prices button on their desk, I almost forgot that the President does actually have a raise-gas-prices button on their desk called "start a war with Iran for no reason"
#generally speaking presidents have very few ways to make the economy better#other than in the long term enforcing antritrust laws and stuff
#however as this administration has shown#presidents have MANY ways to make the economy worse#it’s just that most of them have not been stupid enough to bang on all of them like a toddler on a toy piano
