I mean, that sounds way easier? We don’t know how to get home.

✯ It doesn’t take a psychologist to see that Athena is using the ‘fake it until you make it’ approach to deal with this city emotionally wise. Not that Maya can blame her, she’s done the same in dire situations before.

✯ “Well, It’s sure confusing and, may I say it, scary, at first.” She begins speaking. “But the usual state of it isn’t that different from Los Angeles, if I’m honest. That is, except for the Sector where streets move on their own. Or the underwater district where you can breathe without equipment. Or the Pokémon circling around. “Not that different from LA? You must be a in different part of the city than I am.” The Los Angeles that she knows is a lot more organized than this chaos, or maybe Maya remembered the city differently? 

“Uhh...yeah. Those do sound weird but at the same time a sixteen year old girl made me jump through a ring of fire back home. It makes me wonder what the exact objective of this experiment is.....I’ve tried to compare our situation to some psychological experiments I had studied before but I couldn’t say any of them was similar..”

Fortunately or unfortunately, Athena often took shorcuts through the slums and alleyways of LA and the smell of those places are somewhat comparable to what she’s experiencing right now. For her, It’s just another day in the life of Athena Cykes. A woman who can’t really pay for gas.

She seemed to take offence of at the stranger’s suggestion, who does she think she is? Asking her to clean up a mess she didn’t make?

Athena’s actually a city girl more than a nature girl. Surrounded by advanced technology for most of her young life, her only memory of going to rural areas was the few times she went to visit her childhood friend, Juniper woods. (Who lives in the woods just as her name implies.)The business of the city do bother her from time to time but she’s used to the convenience and the comfort from it.

A Friendship Headcanon 

The first time Athena joined the agency, she was actually completely bewildered by the presence of Trucy Wright. Who is this….small teen offering to show people her panties? Why is the office filled with her props? 

As time passes on and as she spends more and more time at the agency though, Athena does start to warm up to her. They become closer than ever after the events of AA6 but she still has a hard time adjusting to the magician’s antics sometimes.

❛ Do you have friends that are here too? It makes for an easier time once you find them! A new city with a new start kind of sounds like a weird dream. But so far I’ve noticed it’s seemed pretty safe here. My name’s Kaede by the way. Akamatsu Kaede. ❜ 

“Friends.....I suppose I saw some of them here and there. Haven’t talked to them much, though.”

“Oh, where are my manners? I’m Athena Cykes! Nice to meet you!”

Ugh. Mina feels like she’s been walking in circles for hours. This place is a warren of tunnels and nearly nonexistent lighting. She’s not even sure if it’s a sewer anymore. There hasn’t been much sewage that she can see, and the layout is just too damn confusing to be the outflow from any logical placement of houses. Every time she thinks she might be getting somewhere new, it’s just more dark stone walls, more of this same creepy fog that crops up in random places, more of those humanoid monster things that she’s a little afraid to approach with no weapon handy. And what’s she gotten for her trouble? Mucked-up boots, aching feet, goosebumps (it’s just a little too cold for her tastes down here), and diddly squat in the progress department.

Therefore, she’s in rather a funk when – praise the fucking ancestors! – she turns a corner to find someone else. It’s a sharp-dressed woman with  a long red ponytail, kinda pretty if Mina’s being honest with herself. She runs over, debating what she should say and then throwing caution to the wind. She’s too tired of this shit to worry about having a filter right now.

“Oh, thank fuck. I’m lost. Do you have any idea at all where the houses are? I’m apparently supposed to have one, but I’m thinking that ChemiCo asshole lied about that too…”

Athena couldn’t even blame it on the new environment..........okay, maybe she could a bit. But the girl always had a bad sense of direction, the only thing that allowed her to pass her driving license test was a miracle.

“I was actually from my house so it exists, at least. Maybe we can go look for the correct direction together?”

Musashi was… well she was like this. ‘Beautiful boys are good, but so are beautiful girls!’. She certainly had never shied away from sharing those thoughts with the people she thought was beautiful either. “Lucky, lucky~! You don’t seem like you’re at this bar to drink though. Are you looking for someone?”

“H-Huh, are you talking to me?” Athena was caught slightly off-guard, like, of course, she doesn’t think she’s bad looking......quite the opposite, most of the time. But the lawyer still doesn’t get this kind of attention often. 

“Ah, Not really! I suppose I’m just exploring a bit.”

“Oh! Hi there, Maya! You’re here too?!” Athena waved ecstatically and greeted her with enough enthusiasm that you would have mistook them for lifelong friends. The lawyer barely remembers that the other woman is 9 years her senior most of the time. 

“…………………Actually…considering we’re trapped here…..maybe I shouldn’t sound so happy, huh?” She said as she nervously played with her earring. 

✯ Don’t worry about that detail, Athena. Maya has more than enough rememberance about that age gap between you two to embarrass you a lot as a good big sis should.

✯ “You kidding? One should always manifest joy when they have something to celebrate about! Trust me, it’s part of my book on Mayasic psychology.” The woman lets the joke simmer for a while. Athena needs all of the positive energy to deal with this situation as she can gather right now.

✯ Especially if she dares to make that one question to her. Maya’s eardrums have yet to recover from Apollo’s newly arrived freakout over that detail…

“That’s true! As you said we have to stay optimistic even though we’re trapped in who-knows-where land probably millions of miles from home! Haha!” Athena wasn’t completely convinced but talking to a familiar face did make her feel a lot calmer, at least. Especially since Maya seemed a lot less bothered by this situation than her. 

“So....how do you find this city so far? Frankly, I am fearful and confused.” Athena continued, her smile still had not left her face.
