transgender/transsexual people of history!

here is an (incomplete) list of trans people who transitioned before 2008 because it is often a transphobe talking point that transgenderism and transsexuality is a really new thing and no one was trans before 15 years ago. so here are some examples for you! also its important as trans people that we know about trans history and our predecessors who paved the way for us :) Also people talk a lot about how trans people live short lives but that is not the case necessarily

Christine Jorgensen was a USA based trans woman who lived between 1926 - 1989 . She was an actress, singer and recording artist who began transitioning in 1952/the early 1950s She was the first person widely known in the USA to have a sex change and she died aged 62 of bladder and lung cancer. Like everyone else on this list theres so much more to say but im doing some quick summaries based on research so here are some links to find out more

Loren Cameron was a USA trans man who lived between 1959 - 2022. He was a photographer, author and visual artist who created the book Body Alchemy. He began transitioning in the late 1980s. He died aged 63 just last year due to suicide but it is thought he committed suicide due to terminal illness.

Alan L Hart is described as both a trans man and lesbian by different sources (not that being trans masc and lesbian are mutually exclusive) but all sources about him use he/him pronouns so I will be using he/him pronouns. He was USA based and lived between 1890 -1962. He began transitioning in 1917 and was one of the first trans men to get a hysterectomy and the first documented medical transition in the USA. He started taking hormones as soon as synthetic testosterone was readily available in the USA which was early 1920s. He was a doctor, novelist, radiologist and tuberculosis writer who implemented a life saving TB screening program. He died aged 71 of heart failure.

Roberta Cowell was a UK based trans woman who lived from 1918 - 2011. She was a racing car driver who owned a clothing company. she began transitioning between 1948 and 1951 and was the first known british trans woman to undergo gender affirming surgery. She died aged 93 of unknown causes.

Marsha P Johnson was a USA based trans woman/drag queen who lived from 1945 - 1992. There is debate about whether she was a transgender woman or a drag queen (also trans labels weren't necessarily wide spread when she was alive so trans people often identified as transvestites/crossdressers) but her friend james gallagher sited on her wikipedia page use she/her pronouns so I will as well. She was a transgender, LGBT and AIDs activist and a prominent figure at stonewall though it is not true that she started the riots and that is a common misconception. She died aged 42 of a suicide or homicide though in 2002, 10 years after her death with no new leads, her caused of death was ruled as undetermined. Though there is a documentary on netflix about her life and death

PART 2

Michael Dillon was a UK based trans man who lived between 1915 - 1962, he was a doctor and an author, he wrote 4 books about buddhism, one about transsexuality and an autobiography that was publish posthumously in 2016. He was the first trans man to get top surgery and phalloplasty and was an early user of HRT. He transitioned between 1939 and 1949 and died of unknown causes aged 47.

Lucy Hicks Anderson was a USA based trans woman who lived between 1886 - 1954. The exact date of her transition is unknown but she started identifying as a girl at an early age. She was a socialite and chef who died aged 68. Her wikipedia page is short and there is not tons of info about her online (though I'd say all of it is worth a read because she led a very interesting life) But there is a chapter in a book about her (the book is  Black on Both Sides: A Racial History of Trans Identity (2017) by C. Riley Snorton) and an episode of a Tv series called equal about her as well.

Little is known about Eleanor Rykener (including her birth and death date) given that she lived in the 14th century. I am putting her on this list though I am unsure about referring to her as transgender because society was such a different place 700 years ago but here is her wikipedia page if you want to do your own research

This video of New Zealand trans man Peter Alexander in 1937 has been circulating recently and there is not that much (or really any apart from that video) info i can find about him online but the video is worth watching

Mark Weston was a Uk based transgender athlete who lives 1905-1978, his brother was also trans. Wikipedia

Something that i think is equally important to saying "asexual people aren't asexual because of trauma/body issues and asexuality isn't a phase" is saying "for some people their asexuality IS because of trauma/body issues and it might be something that can be worked through with therapy/recovery but they r still asexual" lots of ppl are asexual for lots of different reasons and u can't go around prescribing the ace experience

Does the USA have trains or buses?? Like sometimes ppl go on trains in American media for special occasions like long distance travel and birthdays and new yorkers have the subway but other than that do u guys have ordinary trains? And I've only seen ppl go on the bus in American media if its like a school bus or its set in New York so I'm gonna view New York as an outsider in this bcs they seem to have good public transport but does the rest of the USA have ordinary trains and busses for normal commuting?

I have been calorie counting last few months but today I changed calorie counting apps and you have to pick ur gender at the beginning bcs men and women have to eat different calories or whatever idk bcs of metabolism but I have no idea if my metabolism aligns with my birth sex or my identified gender bcs I have been on HRT long enough for my metabolism to have changed but I reckon I don't have a male or female metabolism and it's kind of a middle ground !!!! So I never know what sex to pick bcs idk what my metabolism aligns more closely with and I read up on it and ur metabolism can change with hrt but idk if it changes fully ??? Or what so I have no idea if I have a female or male metabolism can't belive calorie counting apps hate trans ppl

i want to print that out and staple it to ppl's foreheads. a lot of the jews who fled extreme violence, genocide, and ethnic cleansing were only able to do so because they had the funds. those who couldn't afford to leave were killed. and those who were barely able to scrape by enough to escape usually were forced into assimilation wherever they immigrated because poverty doesn't give you much of a choice.

Okay but genuinely: any beverage that doesn’t contain alcohol will help you to hydrate. Iced tea, juice, and lemonade are really good things to drink. Sports drinks and sodas are good things to drink. Coffee and red bull are fine things to drink. Caffeine is a mild diuretic but the effect is not strong enough for the caffeine to cancel out the amount of water in coffee or an energy drink.

When you’re trying to stay hydrated you want to drink things that are as much water as possible, and things like sodas and coffee and energy drinks have a lot of sugar and caffeine and other stuff that isn’t water.

But if you are more likely to actually drink a 32oz slurpee than a 12oz cup of water please drink the fucking slurpee.

Look. The moisture in bread counts toward the amount of water you need to consume in a day to stay hydrated. Eating celery and cucumber and watermelon can help you stay hydrated.

If you are somewhere hot and you are sweating profusely it can actually be a problem if you are just guzzling plain water because that can cause an electrolyte imbalance; if you’re sweating a lot and drinking a lot of fluids to keep up, make sure you are also getting some salt in you (rehydration packets are much, much better for this than Gatorade is!)

But yeah a lot of people see posts like these and think that coffee will dehydrate you or that having a Coke doesn’t count as drinking fluids and that’s just incorrect.

If you don’t like or can’t drink plain water for whatever reason, please don’t feel bad if you add tea or flavoring drops or lemons and sugar to it.

Anyway. One of the easiest ways to tell if you’re dehydrated is to pee! If you aren’t producing much urine in the course of a day or if your urine is dark, you almost certainly could use some more fluids. Have some water. Or some juice. Or a popsicle. Or some soup. Or a cup of coffee.

Have whatever will allow you to most easily put liquids in your body and don’t feel bad if those liquids taste like sugar or tea.

(Though alcohol actually does impact how your body produces urine and can actually dehydrate you, so if you are drinking alcohol in this weather drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration)

I’m in Phoenix metro and all summer long I carry Chex Mix in my car. Because I take medication that causes dry mouth so I’m never far from a water bottle, but Chex mix is a great source of salt, and you literally will not notice you need it until you realize you’re ready to shank a bitch for a packet of ramen flavoring.

Can’t recommend potato chips (crisps or fries) highly enough. The electrolytes you need when at risk of dehydration are potassium and sodium. Potatoes are naturally high in potassium, and of course potato chips have a lot of salt. Also potato chips have sugar/starch, which helps you process the electrolytes.

Orange juice is also good, being full of sugar and potassium, and also water. Potassium is the electrolyte that you need more of in this situaltion, and it’s harder to come by than sodium. Orange juice and a salty snack, and you’re good to go. Real lemonade too, but since the lemon juice in lemonade is diluted with water, it has a lot less potassium than orange juice.

Orange juice actually becomes something of a cure-all in weather like this. You feel indefinably icky and you don’t know why? You have a headache, nausea, disease, weakness, or general malaise? You are probably either dehydrated, hypoglycemic, or short on potassium. Either way, orange juice (or some potato chips and a non-alchoholic drink) will take care of it.

I am getting they/themmed by people who would make fun of real they/thems for using "plural pronouns" bcs none of them can tell my gender?? I got sir'd ma'am'd and they/themmed today. To be fair pretty much all my legsl documents have different genders on them but man. That's crazy
