Anyway. Bi and Mspec Lesbians aren't a hotly "debated" topic or even new to queer culture, it's just the newest thing that bullies who REALLY want to be homophobic and even racist use to justify harassing gay people they don't like.

It's the thinnest possible veneer of progressive language wrapped around TERF and reactionary rhetoric so that they can feel righteous for forming an angry mob against vulnerable targets. When transfeminists describe someone as being "TME," it is not a personal attack, in the same exact way that describing someone as "cishet" or "white" or "able-bodied" or "neurotypical" or as a "man" is not a personal attack. The descriptor "TME" implies nothing about you as an individual except that you exist on one particular side of a dialectical relationship found within all society. To treat this descriptor as if it is a slur is to do the same exact thing someone like Elon Musk does when he declares "cis" is a slur. The function of declaring simple dialectical descriptors such as these as slurs is to disguise the dialectic, a deliberate effort to block any analysis or understanding of the class dynamics at play in society. There are TME people in my life who I love and appreciate dearly, and I call them "TME" with the same emotion with which I would describe the polarity of one side of a magnet, or the primary body around which a given astronomical object orbits, or the class position of kings relative to serfs in feudal society, which is to say, there is little particular emotion behind me choosing to call them that, as I am performing scientific analysis of the class dynamics of society rather than an emotional analysis based on who I happen to like or dislike. There are certainly emotions associated with that term - I feel frustration with the way I and other TMA people like me as a class are exploited and treated by TME people as a class - but the label itself is not given for the purpose of expressing emotions, but rather, to elucidate this dialectic, to allow for scientific analysis.

If you feel personally injured by the label "TME," I suggest you seriously think about why that is the case. Why do you feel personally attacked when someone suggests you might simply exist within a given class which overall benefits from an exploitative relationship with another class, even if they make no claim about your individual actions taken as a member of said class? And (I am assuming you, dear reader, are not simply a full-on reactionary here) do you feel the same way when someone describes you according to other categories you may fall into which overall exist on the relatively privileged side of their given dialectic, such as white, able-bodied, man, etc?

Seriously consider if any other combination of words would do the job better! You have a responsibility to communicate in ways that don't contribute to making the community unsafe for members of it! Contradictory labels are not the issue here, genderfuckery is valid, intersex technicalities exist, AND this combination of words reads like an enormous red flag for someone who either doesn't know enough about how TERFs operate, OR thinks that harm to trans women from enabling this dogwhistle is acceptable.

This is more or less what it has always come down to for me as well, and I'm saying this as an intersex femminiello (neapolitan third gender) trans woman. I think people should use whatever label best enables them to communicate their identity to others and also, crucially, have their identity be understood by the people they are communicating with.

I've touched on this elsewhere, this idea that the labels we use are less important than the community of practices that we share with one another.

Basically, when you say "I am X" you are communicating not only an idea of who and what you are to other people, but you are also saying "I am the same as/a similar thing to/in the same group as other people who are also X". If transfem is the label that best enables someone to do that, then by all means have at it!

Now, if someone calls themself a transfem but then goes to great lengths to distance and differentiate themself from other transfems, I might raise my eyebrow, because at that point why use that label?

I obviously can't stop someone from using a label like that, but they might want to consider how effectively they are communicating who they are to other people.

The way I see it, anyone who calls themself a transfem is my sister, and I would hope that anyone else using that label sees me the same way.

If you instead refer to yourself with a label that communicates to others that you are like me, but then balk at the idea that people might see us as being the same and stress at every opportunity how different and not the same we are, then I kinda find myself raising an eyebrow at that.
