Hi I am yoursassybookwormfriend but you can call my Sassy. I love books and am in a lot of fandoms, but if I haven’t read a book, please tell me! I am always looking for more books to read! 

Fandoms include, but are not limited to: 

- Nevermoor : my most active fandom. I love Nevermoor, it’s mostly what my blog is about. 

- Septimus Heap : semi-active, my most popular post is this fandom, I think. Humor is 10/10. Love the chapter art so much. I live for the sibling dynamic between Jenna and Septimus If you say that Septimus Heap is a childish series you are wrong and should block me.

- Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children : semi-active. Can someone please tell me if Julius actually survived TDoDA? Sorry Enorace fans, I’m a Horulius truther. 

- The Keepers : semi-active, probably will post about my love for Brian and why Gabriel is my least favorite (Asking consent is cool actually, Gabriel!). 

- The Riordanverse : semi-active, I kind of forget a lot that happened in the books, but I do love the characters! 

- Shadow School : not very active. Do read it though! Looking for book 3.

- The Mysterious Benedict Society: not very active. 

- The Grishaverse: Not very active. The show has wonderful casting but like, the weirdest writing choices? 

- The Old Kingdom : not very active. Do look forward to reading Clariel though. Mogget supremacy.

- The Gatekeepers, a.k.a. The Power of Five : Not very active. A confusing but interesting series.

- The Owl House: a little active. The gayest and the best show around. Lore and animation is 10/10.

Is anybody else only learning now that the UK is having an election between an angry pissy right wing elitist and a man who wears a bin on his head?!

He calls himself count Binface and the funniest part is he has a real possibility of winning because his policies are genuinely pretty tight

He’s an and I quote, “5,900-year-old intergalactic space warrior from Sigma IX, who wears a dustbin on his head and has never, by his own admission, been to Clacton.”

Apparently he’s a British writer who’s been doing this for a while.

One Day More

It’s 10pm on Wednesday the 12th of August, which means in about 24 hours, the polls will have closed in Clacton after the most pointless by-election we have seen in a very long time.

The leader of the far-right “party”, Reform UK, is predicted to “win” the seat, and his sycophantic supporters are already suggesting this is going to be some kind of magnificent triumph - a Homeric, nay Herculean effort that will inscribe his name in the history books for now and all time as a true political genius.

Except he already had this seat.

He won the seat in the 2024 general election with a majority of 8, 405 on a turnout of 58%.

He wasn’t forced to resign. He wasn’t recalled.

He did this of his own volition. Of his own free will. He gave up his seat so he could win it back.

This isn’t a fight against the odds. This isn’t a Homeric triumph. This isn’t a Herculean effort.

This isn’t even him winning a seat. This is him just restoring the status quo. He is going back to what he already had.

If he wins tomorrow, nothing will have changed.

If he wins, he has won against thirty three people who stood because it was a bit of free publicity. Who stood because the election was a joke. Who stood because they saw a chance to get their fifteen minutes.

I can’t imagine any of them believe they will actually win - not even Count Binface who is the front runner to depose him.

And he will have to win by more than he won by in 2024, otherwise it will be a humiliation. But not just by more in numbers - because if the turnout increases and the majority doesn’t increase by the same amount, then it will be easy enough to argue he lost his majority.

He will have to increase his percentage, and the swing to him. Which will be hard to judge because none of the other parties from 2024 are there and most of the people who are standing are new.

It will be hard to judge, but I suspect that - like porn, good jazz, espionage and dark magic - we will know whether the result is good for him when we see it.

But just to be clear - whether he wins big, or wins little, or doesn’t win at all, he is just restoring the status quo. He is going back to a seat he already had and a seat he gave up of his own free will.

And the final thing to understand is that this will not stop the investigation into his dealings.

If he wins, he will become an MP again, and subject to the oversight of Parliament. And Parliament will pretty much pick up from where it left off.

No doubt his argument will be “The people of Clacton returned me to my seat, and shouldn’t they have the final say”. Except that isn’t how it works - it’s never how it works. If that were how it works no MP would ever be investigated for anything, because ALL MPs are elected by the people. It would quite literally give them free reign to do anything they want.

Which would be a ridiculous state of affairs.

I understand that Parliament is sovereign - I don’t necessarily like the idea (I think they should be answerable to the courts, but I don’t get to make that judgement) - and if Parliament is going to be sovereign then all MPs have to answer to it. You can’t say “Parliament is sovereign” and then refuse to answer to its judgement.

All of this is by way of saying tomorrow night will see the polls close in Clacton, and by early Friday morning we will see who is to be returned to Parliament. And I suspect that the person who will be returning to Parliament will be returning to Parliament after a by-election that was a complete and total waste of time.

And yet his lick-spittle sycophants will not see it that way.

Tomorrow night, and on Friday morning, they will tell us we have a new British hero to worship and adore.

Because they are as deluded as the man they believe is the next messiah.

I freaking love the Nevermoor fandom because on ao3 the majority of fics are Gen but the SECOND most are F/F which is a RARITY in fandoms. And the female main character has both a male and female friend but she is basically never shipped with her male friend and instead is shipped with her female friend and that is the second most tagged relationship. (The second slash ship is between two characters that have never met but many people agree have joint custody over Morrigan).

some thoughts on the results of the 2026-7 nevermoor fandom survey (new survey for 2026-7)

saying you don’t like shipping is neither interesting nor a hot take. write gen fic. why are you spending your time in fandom putting down people who are writing what they’re interested in. also just because people write ship fic/make ship content, does not mean they literally think or want it to happen in canon, it is often just an interesting dynamic to be explored in a sandbox and complaining about it just sucks. make what you want to see and stop being so hostile to other fans who are just trying to enjoy themselves

silverborn is not a bad book, a lot of people just built it up for the hiatus and it could never have lived up to all those expectations, there are nine books and three arcs, this one is just setting up arc two

56.8% of people surveyed (of 329 people) say they create nothing for the nevermoor fandom. 74.2% have never taken part in any fandom events. yet when asked what they would like to see more of in fandom, most of them list some version of fanfiction/fanart/cosplays et cetera. but do you comment on pre-existing fic, do you reblog art and hype up artists, do you encourage cosplayers? or even reblog text posts which this fandom seems to have an allergy to. i can say from personal experience that my fic does not get very much engagement in terms of hits/kudoi ratio. you are a part of fandom, not just a consumer. write bad fic. make bad art. if you don’t care for shipping, make gen content and encourage more gen creators, hype up gen fic, etc. join an event. enjoy yourself. it’s the number one way to keep involved in a fandom during a hiatus and i think it’s a genuine shame so few people actually do this. stop waiting for it to be created around you and get creating yourself. be the change you want to see in the world.

I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.

I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
