This blog is my adult version of cutting pictures out of magazines and glueing them on to paper
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON 3.05
idk guys sometimes you just have to accept a ship dynamic is unhealthy, insane, and sometimes abusive. and its not real people so those factors just make it interesting
please stop unfolding the origami crane and smoothing it out bc you got worried the paper was hurting from the bends
im sorry it's so funny to me how aemond and aegon are having a telepathic argument about which of them was their mother's favorite child and all the while she literally traded them both in a heartbeat for helaena's life weeks ago
once i get over it i will be over it

still caring about internet friends you lost touch with years ago is so embarrassing. yeah i had a deam we met up irl recently. the last time we spoke was maybe 7-8 years ago. i still wear the laces we randomly decided was a sign of our friendship. i dont know what any of your socials are or if youre even active on any. sometimes i see someones art resemble yours and i wonder for hours. do you still go by that name you chose? whenever i see it i wonder if its you. we couldve passed each other in this vastness a thousand times and not have a clue.
we were lonely kids having fun together. do you remember?
Maybe the most damming thing about Nolans odyssey is i haven’t seen a single gifset from it
oh yknow. the devil made me do it but I also kinda wanted to.
i don't know much about greek mythology, just your basic surface level knowledge from grazing through documentaries, references in pop culture etc. so i don't have much to go off of with the odyssey. that said, i've come onto tumblr to see a lot of discourse on it and i thought i would like to share my unbiased, outsider perspective. it kinda sucked. i'm not familiar with christopher nolan's work, the most i've seen from his filmography is interstellar (and that was an alright movie in my opinion), so i really had no expectations going in. i left feeling like i need to go read the entirety of homer's collected works. but not because the movie moved me, because i don't think the film did any of the source material justice....and i know diddly squat about it. the whole movie was simply blockbuster movie star after movie star, which very much took away from the enjoyment as none of them seemed to embody the characters the way the story needed them too. the premise of some plot was there, but emotional beats were missed continuously. it was jumping from scene to scene without lingering on moments that could've hit so hard. it felt like we were being rushed along to make a decent run time. overall i'd give it a 3/10. some shots were nice, robert pattinson did a good job and the character that stuck out the most to me (and the only one that i actually found myself invested in) was John Leguizamo as Eumaeus.
You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.
and this shit's important. Media from the past tells us how people from the past acted and thought and behaved.
Plus, a lot of these media pieces were socially acceptable and/or progressive for their time. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, while it contains a lot of words and ideas that are offensive now, was very progressive for its time. The book is a statement piece for how a young man who's grown up in a racist environment, with no words to explain himself other than racist and bigoted ones, decides that the whole system is shit and he's not going to follow those rules any more. So not reading or engaging with it because it uses the n-word a lot really misses the point.
