I agree with the message but?! this is tone deaf coming from one of the elitist, most prestigious fashion events in the world. you are rich to even be invited, an event where the ticket is literally $30,000.... Iām gonna eat YOU
None of you people understand the actual reality of how much the ultra-rich hoard. Aoc is not even a blip on the radar of rich. Aoc grew up poor in the bronx and continued to work as a bartender while she was on the campaing trail.
Is she wealthier than the average person? Yeah. No shit sherlock. But does she qualify...as RICH?? My fam...my guy....my bud.....the answer is simply No.
Aoc wants to tax the 1%. The people who can afford to buy space programs, influence elections and send countries to war.
She is not referring to...like....lil nas x here. Shes referring to jeff fucking bezos.
Please learn the difference between BEING WEALTHY (aoc) and being RICH (bezos, gates, etc)
Also, one of Ocasio-Cortez's big things is buying from artists/fashion designers who are involved in their community and actively promote culture that is often left behind in fast fashion (like when y'all slammed her for that bag). The dress was made by Aurora James. Now, I don't know SHIT about fashion but uuuuh, knew I heard the name somewhere. Here's just the first paragraph of her wiki article. By all means, go read the rest.
Additionally, she didn't pay for the ticket or the dress. The designer made the dress, bought the ticket, and invited her to attend wearing the dress. The met gala is basically an event where celebrities become billboards for designers. AOC showed up to an event full of filthy rich people wearing a dress by an activist designer that says "tax the rich" on it.
AOC is not rich. Her salary is 175,000 a year. That's literally upper middle class.
ALSO a lot of New York elected officials are just⦠on the guest list. They get in for free. So getting the chance to attend this overly indulgent gala and using that opportunity to call out over indulgence? Pretty dope, I think.
tumblr comedy I havenāt seen in a while and I kind of miss: when someone says like āsmoothies are greatā and then someone else says ājuices are great too!ā and the first person says āmake your own postā and then the second person says āokayā and then you scroll down and theres a second post.
I also love seeing posts where someone says something that clearly sets up a joke and then has very obviously messaged their friend to question it in a reblog so they deliver the punchline with maximum impact. Haven't seen that in a while

āYouād be surprisedā, said Xaldien, who just lost four followers and received a lovely āmen canāt be rapedā anon shortly after reblogging this the first time.
Out of 19000+ followers I have, only one of you actually reblogged about this issue, yet a lot of you have reblogged and liked a picture by playboy about catcalling and that how men should never do it.
Additionally, I have received abuse in my ask box (which I will be answering when I can) and threats. In particular death threats and rape threats.
I can see the real problem here already. Male domestic violence and rape is just invisible in our society because we donāt want to talk about this because it just damages the status quo of this fucking website.
These are aspects of people that are affected by Discordās new update to its color scheme and font, and there very well could be more I didnāt mention. Yes, you read it right, abled people and neurotypical people too. You are not immune to eyestrain.
What are the issues?
A font which is both overly uniform and overly squished, with many letters that have essentially the same silhouette as others and could easily be flipped and look the same as another.
ā» This is dyslexic-unfriendly, as well as generally harder to read and an issue for people with visual impairments who may find that letters bleed together or that their eyes āskipā over letters or words at times.
A color scheme that is so highly saturated that it both immediately draws your attention and also makes you want to immediately look away.
ā» This is generally unfriendly, affecting people with sensory issues the most (ADHD/Autism, migraines, processing disorders), but itās also colorblind-unfriendly. Due to the differences between the colors being exclusively the part that changes the named color (hue; āgreenā vs āblueā) instead of both that and the colors being different intensities (saturation; āneon greenā vs āleaf greenā), they look practically identical.
Arenāt there more? No. This is pretty much all that was changed.
Discord changed TWO THINGS and pretty much managed to land every single person possible to genuinely hurt with a visual design change that doesnāt add or remove any elements. Including abled and neurotypical people!!!
Discord is currently a good number of peopleās lifeline and way to connect with others. And with this change, they just made using their app hurt. They know that we canāt leave their app without leaving our friends and communities behind. They know that if they can just sweep this under the rug, they wonāt have to do a thing.
...So we canāt let them.
Why would Discord do this?
Itās actually fairly simple. Discord was hemorrhaging money from its very conception. Discord only exists because investors think itāll make money in the future. If Discord doesnāt do as well, investors will push to make it ābetterā or theyāll drop their funding. Discord was probably forced into this situation, they probably knew exactly what would happen.
We have to show their investors that Discord was right.
What can we do to fix this?
DONāT:
Reply to Discordās tweet about the design change.
ā» It gives Discord more attention, and if any complaints are acknowledged they are directed to Discordās accessibility forums.
ONLY post on Discordās accessibility forums.
ā» It gives Discord stats to work with, but it also means the outcry isnāt public. We need everyone to see this, not just Discord.
DO:
Reblog this post.
ā» Spreads the awareness, and all.
Retweet, reply to, and/or like this tweet: https://twitter.com/KarklesMarx/status/1393223369571586053
ā» This tweet is part of our and our friendsā initiative to get this big and get this public.
Make your own posts about it on different social medias.
ā» Tumblr, Twitter, Discord servers, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, whatever ground you have, use it. You can help make this change too.
Find other people doing the same thing.
ā» One initiative is never enough. Look for other people making posts like these and boost their posts too.
IF YOU KNOW ANOTHER LANGUAGE, MAKE POSTS OF YOUR OWN BOOSTING IT IN OTHER LANGUAGES.
ā» Please. There are probably a lot of people we havenāt reached because this is an all-English post.
Wait, donāt you have pictures of whatās going on?
We do. Theyāre under the cut, to prevent causing issues for people reading the post.

As you celebrate thanksgiving, know that the Trump administration is taking away 321 acres of land from the Mashpee-Wampanoag, the tribe that helped the pilgrims survive and were present at the first thanksgiving. Tell legislators to support the Mashpee Reservation Reaffirmation Act. ]
For those who donāt live in Massachusetts, that is literally ALL THE LAND THEY HAVE! All of it. The state aims to make the entire ~3000 person tribe homeless.
If you want more information the tribe themselves have a website for you to look at! Please spread the word and reach out to your networks so people are feeling specifically asked to act upon this⦠it is incumbent upon all of us to stand up for our Mashpee-Wampanoag siblings at this time. We MUST be their allies. We MUST uplift their voices and support what their asks are.Ā
We owe all Indigenous peoples in this country so much more than this⦠but this is a start.Ā
ā¦..not even six hours later i got an offer of a well paying full time long-term job with free room and board in queens in nyc, allowing me independence and a way to escape an abusive situation and an unhealthy environment
likes charge reblogs cast, folks, this is the good luck post
"Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
to my fellow black folk: we lost an actual superhero, and it feels like it. It's perfectly okay to feel distraught, sadness, emotional at that loss. I know being black is hard when it comes to what feels like consistent, communal trauma. it's okay to take a breather and feel- you don't have to always feel "strong". We're all here. āš¾ā¤ļø
(you can, and please, share if you're not black, but don't dare start no discourse in my comments)
ALWAYS REBLOG WHEN YOU SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS PLEASE; ITS SO MUCH MORE THAN IMPORTANT TO PEOPLE. IT MEANS EVERYTHING TO SOMEBODY AND EVEN THOUGH YOU MIGHT NOT SEE THIS IN THE SAME LIGHT, SOMEONE MIGHT. INFACT YOU REBLOGGING THIS COULD STOP SOMEONE TAKING THEIR LIFE TONIGHT.
If you feel unsafe about voting in person (because, yāknow, weāre in the middle of a goddam pandemic) but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a āmail-inā ballot in a timely fashionā¦.
1. Request a mail-in ballot.
2. Do not mail it.
3. Google your supervisor of elections to see where you can drop off your mail-in ballot. Itās usually NOT THE POLLING PLACE.
All states allow this! Here is what youāre accomplishing by doing this:
1. Your ballot gets in on time no matter what happens to the USPS.
2. You donāt have to worry about standing in long lines and risking infection. Youāre just stopping by to drop it off.
3. You voted! Hooray! I have no doubt Trump and his supporters are doing to try to call into question the legitimacy of mail-in voting (which is more enthusiastically embraced by Democratic supporters, especially now.)
Also, when you drop it off, find out how to track it online to make sure it is verified. California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have systems that can track your ballot just like tracking a package from Amazon.
All CA vote centers (which are open for weeks to a month before election day) have ballot drop-off boxes too! Many government buildings have them as well, so thereās no need to wait until election day when itās crowded to drop them off. The list of drop-off sites is always posted on each countyās voter info website.
This is important! This election is crucial! Get out and vote! We! Cannot! Afford! To! Get! Complacent! This year, every vote matters!
Okay, I'm posting this here because this blog has a much bigger following than my main. This is the first time I've ever begged for reblogs instead of likes.
The morning of August 10th a massive storm called a derecho plowed through the midwest, devastating Southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and the entire state of Iowa, which is where I live. Iowa was hit the worst. A derecho is basically the equivalent of a hurricane. Our highest recorded wind speed was 112mph.
1/3 of the state lost power, and almost 3 days later, roughly 400,000 people still don't have power. We have approximately 23 million acres of farmland, and approximately 10 million were destroyed by the storm. That's not good at all. Our crops are one of the state's main sources of economic development, and we lost so much.
The light green area inside the circle is all of our damaged crops. We lost a lot of silos and grain bins as well
Outside of our local news stations, there's barely any national media coverage on this. Ive only seen a couple, and the only ones I have seen weren't even that in that depth.
The above screenshot was from today(Aug. 12th, 2020) at 9pm CST. 2 days had passed before either of them wrote anything about it.
We have some cities that are either partly out of power or entirely out of power. One of the worst hit cities was even still recovering somewhat from a F4 tornado that went through it 2 years ago.
There's people stranded in their homes without food, power, gas and/or cell service. Please spread the word and let people know that we need help!

Itās possible to be critical of Biden and Harris while ALSO emphasizing that YOU NEED TO VOTE FOR THEM. Most people I see complaining either explicitly say they wonāt vote or donāt offer any support. THIS IS BAD. This is what gets passive voters to see all the critiques and think that theyāll be just as bad as the current Republican administration. THIS IS NOT TRUE!
Yes, Biden and Harris are very flawed. Theyāve both done a lot of bad in their history. No, theyāre not the candidates any of us were hoping for. But they arenāt literal fascists who are actively trying to kill everyone but the 1% and they will likely actually work to get covid under control in the US when the virus is still raging. I know we were hoping for more progressive candidates but this is what weāve got.
If you want to push the Democratic Party to be more progressive, find your local candidates to get excited about and VOTE THEM IN! There are so many people running for Congress and Senate that can do some actual good in the world if we get them elected. They can draft legislature that can actually get approved if we have a Democratic president and majority in both the House & Senate. Most importantly, they can work to keep Biden and Harris in check. Thatās the point of the three branches: checks and balances. So find a local candidate to get excited about, donate to their campaign, tell people about them, and vote for them!
Be critical of the President and VP candidates, yes, but for the love of god do not discourage people from voting. I remember sobbing election night 2016 because I was terrified of a Trump presidency and weāve seen the outcome of that. People have literally died because of it. A lot of us will not survive another four years of this so PLEASE VOTE BLUE. ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO VOTE BLUE. DONāT BE A DICK.
The exhausting part is that this was the EXACT same conversation we had to have during the 2016 election, and now people seem content with repeating history in the name of ideological purity
Our nation is descending into full blown fascism.Ā
Progress takes time.Ā
I wish we could flip a switch and have an army of AOC and Bernie style progressives running things. But itās just not realistic to think we can get there overnight. But I do believe we can get there eventually.Ā
Iām voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.Ā I am done complaining about the things I donāt like about Biden and Harris. I know they are not ideal. So Iām going to advocate to change Bidenās mind and push him towards policies I like. Iām going to advocate for better congressional candidates. I am going to advocate for better local officials.Ā
ThisĀ āKamala is a copā rhetoric isnāt going to help with anything. This defeatistĀ ātheyāre all the sameā attitude isnāt going to help anything. This isnāt even the ālesser of two evils.ā Biden and Harris are worlds away from the evil that is Trump and the GOP. Itās like saying a paper cut and decapitation are basically the same. The paper cut isnāt the lesser of two evils. Itās annoying and you want to get rid of it eventually, but at least you still have a head.Ā
I donāt want to die. I donāt want my parents to die. I donāt want my chronically ill friends to die. I fear if Trump gets reelected we will descend into even more chaos. Social Security and Medicare could be at risk. Both things I need to live. Things my parents need to live.Ā
Iām done shitting on Biden. And Iām not going to start shitting on Harris. I am going to support them and advocate everyone vote for them. They are the only viable alternative to Trump.Ā
I hate that he lost too, but the mourning period for Bernie is over. He supports Biden for president. We all should too.Ā
And, no, not voting is not an option. Donāt be that person. Perhaps you have good health and would be able to survive more Trump. But there are many who would not. Please think of them. Think of the people suffering in ICUs right now. Think of RBG fighting to stave off death.
Being sick for 20 years I know sometimes harm reduction is the only option. It always feels a bit like giving up and compromising. Because it is. But it keeps you moving forward. It allows for the chance to improve things later on.Ā
Look, Trumpās trying to get rid of Social Security.
Iām disabled, and I canāt work, and thatās my sole income. Itās not enough, but I have a place to live and food to eat. I donāt have family, and I donāt have friends who can afford to support me if that goes away. I would be completely fucked.
If Biden wins, heās not going to attack Social Security, and I can scrape by for a while longer.
Refusing to vote means you are casting a vote for me to be homeless.
Please hold your nose and vote for Biden, and maybe we can start to dig out of this hole weāre in.
