Coffee didn't even require colonialism irl. It was a product of Africa, traded to Europe through contact with the Muslim world before any coffee growing areas were colonized by Europe. The refusal to think about where fantasy coffee comes from is the belief that these products must come from colonialism and that the natrual treatment of a product that comes from colonialism has to be to just not think about. You know as an American born in the late 90s I’ve watched my country blow up foreigners on tv supposedly in the interest of national security since I was a toddler but quite frankly we live on a natural fortress of a continent with friendly nations to our north and south and have been attacked on our own soil literally two times in the past hundred years and we have military bases on every inhabited continent on earth. It’s never made sense to do these things for “national security”. It never will make sense unless you value the shareholders of weapons companies over the lives of children. my stance on the trans athlete debate is always and forever going to be that sports should be completely desegregated because humans have one of the smallest levels of sexual dimorphism in the animal kingdom and the disparity we see between male and female performance is entirely caused by social factors rather than anything biological. “should trans women compete against cis women” i think cis men and cis women could compete fairly but that’s apparently a little too spicy for people to wrap their minds around bc they’ve been told their whole lives women are biologically inferior & never thought to question that. or wonder if it’s maybe a self fulfilling prophecy of some kind. are women biologically inferior or do they appear so because patriarchy demands that of us?

Really wish we'd, on the left, stop laughing and assuming this is ACTUALLY about strippers. I'd be willing to bet this ISN'T about some one with the actual job of stripper being somehow hired and sent to a school, that indeed DOESN'T happen - instead it will be used to target any female teacher who, like, wears a bikini on social media one time. She'll be called a "danger" to children and fired, as a cover for the fact that she's pro-queer or too far left or doesn't support ICE enough on that same social media. Actual bill name: Stop the Sexualization of Children Act.

Purported purpose: "to protect children from being exposed to explicit material in the classroom".

How it's sold in the press: "Ban strippers and porn from classrooms!"

Actual text of the bill: Expands the meaning of "sexually explicit content" to include the words "or involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism".

Not and. Or. Meaning "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" is in and of itself enough to be classified as sexually explicit.

Actual result: Illegal to mention the existence of trans people or admit to being trans in a classroom under threat of being prosecuted as a child sex offender.

Been playing a lot of "psychological horror" games lately, and man

The other crazy thing about autism is that whether or not you tell someone shouldn’t actually matter in how they treat you.

I told my mom after months of worry after self-diagnosing myself as an adult, and when she asked me why I waited, I gave her a long list of examples of when she did not support me as a kid in my (then unknown) needs, but did punish me for embarrassing her. And with tears in her eyes she said “I just thought you were being difficult.”

But would it have made a difference back then?

Meanwhile I have relatives I still haven’t told and don’t plan to because they’ve always treated me with leniency, and saying something now wouldn’t matter one bit.

If you treat someone like shit, because you just assume their actions are deliberately selfish or mean-spirited or out to get you personally, would you really have become a saint at the flip of a switch if you knew they couldn’t help it? Did you ask them, ever? Did you try to understand them? Did you consider, even once, that it’s not about you?

It’s the same with food pickiness. If you’re going to be rude on the baseless assumption that someone is just being stubborn, you’re still going to be rude if they tell you it’s sensory ick—because at the root of it you can’t handle them being different with grace. You can’t accept that it’s not about you.

Someone shouldn’t have to out themselves justifying their choices to earn your patience and respect. They’re a person, their life choices impact them alone, and they should have your respect regardless.
