Hey hang on a second
As important as it was to contact Tumblr when they made that asinine, fucked up change, now that they've reversed it, you have a chance to say thanks for reversing it.
I know that you're probably still riding the high (negative) from the stress of going through yesterday's changes, and worrying about the fate of your community, and how badly the change would have affected creators. We banded together, and we let the staff know that we didn't like what they were doing, and you know what? They listened. That's part of why we're here on Tumblr and not other places that would have just shoved that down our throats regardless of the hundreds of thousands of complaints. Yeah, they fucked up. Big time. But they also backed off, and it's important to speak on that front as well if you want them to do it again later.
So, even though you may still be mad that they did it at all, take a moment and a breath, and click here. Select feedback if it isn't already selected. And just say "Hey, thanks for listening to your users, and for rolling back the change. I like my community here, and I like that you listened to us when we asked you not to do something we didn't like." It doesn't need to be elaborate. But if we want them to listen to us, making it worth listening to us is a step in the process.
Which also means that if you added a negative review somewhere due to this update, consider retracting or editing it to address the back track on the update. If you were a premium user and you cancelled in order to speak with your money to object to the change, consider speaking again now that you've been listened to.
Staff fucked up. But I'd rather have a staff that fucks up sometimes and then actually listens to its users and fixes or tries to fix it, than a staff that fucks up and pushes through to force the fuck up on everyone. So I'm going to thank them for listening this time, and I'm going to encourage them to listen again next time.
I was really hoping we'd get to experience The crab rave, like you know, the Big One, before the site went down.
I’ve had tumblr for 4 years but some of you bitches have had it for a decade. It’s time to seek penance
wait I’m curious now . Reblog this with how long u’ve been on tumblr for. Dating back to ur oldest blog ever !!!
Reblog if you do NOT want the new Tumblr update
Apparently, from what I hear people say, in the new Tumblr update, if someone reblogs your post and adds a comment of their own, that reblog is counted as a new post and it belongs to the reblogger. Not you. You, as the OP, do not get the notifications if someone else later reblogs from the person who reblogged your post with their own comment. You can’t see what comments people leave on the reblogs of the post you originally made unless they reblogged directly from you.
If this is actually true, it will just open doors for harassment. And also it takes the credits away from the OPs. Tumblr’s etiquette has always been “reblog don’t repost”. So this new update, if true, contradicts the whole core values of Tumblr as a community.
Respectfully, we don’t want this @staff @support @tumblr @changes please listen to your users.
I’d also like to clarify that this is what I hear from what a lot of people are saying, and it bothers me. But if I got anything wrong, I do apologize.
@staff @tumblr
Genuine question - Where do you get your update concepts? Where do you keep getting these ideas about "what tumblr users want" with regard to the use and functionality of this website?
Because for true and for serious, whoever is giving you these ideas, they have no idea what they're talking about.
If you're using a focus group, get a new one. If you're using a consultant, fire them. If you're looking at other social media sites and using that as a template, STOP.
The entire charm of tumblr is that it is NOT like other websites. We like it the way it is. We've built a home and a culture and a community that's lasted for over 20 years now, which is more than most other text-based social media sites from the 2010s can say.
If you want ideas on how to improve the site, ASK ACTUAL TUMBLR USERS. They'll tell you things like :
improve the search function
improve the tag system
improve user support and problem reporting
improve account filters to weed out pornbots and spam accounts
do something about the repetitive dashboard ads so that blocking them actually works
use human-intelligence review to prevent hate-reporting against marginalized users and needless deletion of their accounts
do better with removing hate groups and hate content from the site
Or, if you want something else to do, fix the mobile app. Half the time, it doesn't work at all.
It's weird here. It's unconventional. It's nerdy and niche and hard to pin down. And that's kind of the point.
We love our big blue hellsite.
Don't fuck it up.
Sincerely,
Everyone

in lieu of tumblr's new reblog feature. let's continue to support creators on this platform and keep this place as safe as possible. please consider giving feedback here. credit not needed. recoloring welcomed. feel free to edit as you need! *credits to a dear friend of mine for this idea.
update genuinely so doodoo ass. if you reblog from ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL POST, this includes reblogs without additions, INCLUDING SELF-REBLOGS, IT DOESN'T ADD TO THE TOTAL REBLOG COUNT. FOR SOME REASON. AND YOU CAN'T EVEN VIEW THE ONES WITH TAGS UNDER THE REBLOG TAB ANYMORE WHICH IS LIKE HALF THE FUN OF TUMBLR!!!!
literally the only way to see the true reblog count atm is loading all reblogs in the reblog graph which is the most inconvenient shit ever. roll it back, tumblr, good lord. I'm seeing posts that in reality have like 6k reblogs only visibly having like 100 because of this, that's a SEVERE cutdown of notes
I need to like make a chart to explain what I'm saying like. I am straight up not even talking about reblogs with comment being their own posts and stealing notes from op. I am talking about bare reblogs with no comments. because somehow these are affected even though they shouldn't be.
every reblog in the chart I presented is a bare, no comment reblog. and yes, reblogging from ANY of the ones in green including the self-reblog doesn't add to the total reblog count. only reblogging DIRECTLY from the ORIGINAL POST does. for some reason.
the real number of reblogs in this case would be 8. the SHOWN, VISIBLE number on the post itself would be 4. and you would only be able to see the tags of the green reblogs in the reblog tab, you would NOT be able to see the tags of the ones in red. for some reason. literally the only way you can access them is through the reblog graph.
you may be thinking that some of the reactions to the tumblr update are unfounded or panicky. but i meant what i said: this will fucking destroy any artist on this site.
for your reference, i tracked down one of my original posts; which had a notes section that looked like this:
and here is what it looks like now:
holy shit. by my math, that is not even two percent of the amount of aggregate notes my writing actually has. i am not able to see any of the literal hundreds of replies, comments, or tags.
maybe this is a bit presumptuous but i consider myself to be fairly popular on this site. i still remember the first time a large blog "picked up" my work - how quickly all of a sudden i was getting seen. notes on my poetry jumped from like 10 to 300 to 3k. overnight. that was the magic of tumblr, and the incredible writing community i found here.
but now if i answer any of my fellow writers, if i say please go check this out or even if i add additional context to my own work - the artist is removed completely from their own content.
do you want to reply to an "ask game"? do you want to reply to a story prompt? do you want to just make a funny joke with your friends? well, that sucks - you might be depriving them of literally 98% of their notes.
it isn't about clout chasing. it is about giving creators control over their own materials. even a silly post deserves to be connected directly with the person that thought it up.
the tumblr feedback form is currently crashed for me, but when it's up, everyone please go (politely! calmly! like you're walking in a burning building!) tell them what you think. in the meantime: @staff @changes like... i am begging you. literally just set up a suggestion box for ideas on how to monetize tumblr, surely one of us can help you.
she found a four-leaf clover for you
Blackout 3/18
I will be participating in the blackout that was planned by @yourlocalfandomfriendo starting tomorrow, 3/18/26 and going for 48 hours.
I have also created an account on pillowfort, which I am still very much getting used to, but will be getting more familiar with over the next few days during the blackout and start planning on how to move my events, prompts, and writing to the new platform. If Tumblr doesn't roll back these changes, I'll be switching over completely.
If Tumblr won't right course, then we'll jump ship!
I think we should do another blackout like we did with shapes.inc but for the new update
Does anyone know any large blogs I can tag in this? I'll edit this to tag who I can remember and who I'm reminded of. If anyone would like to be removed as well, please let me know and I will. Refer to the original post when reblogging as well.
A lot of people are making pillowfort accounts, I'd recommend doing so in case this doesn't go away.
I think this time we should do it on the 18th, and make it last 48 hours.
@not-offical-offical @the-bone-eating-vulture tagging you both so you can tag the siblings, I'd tag them but then I wouldn't have enough tag space for larger blogs.
If you can, please tag as many people as possible. The more people we get, and the sooner it happens, the more likely it is to have the proper affect.
@laciffo-natas @satan-offical @undefined333
I've officially stopped getting notes for other people's interactions through reblogs with this. If you want to contact me directly, interact with the original post, or send me an ask. I'm also getting overwhelmed with notes from people interacting with the original post of this currently, if I miss something you send, I deeply apologize, and am doing my best to keep up with everything.
There's also another blackout being organized by @aroacesafeplaceforall and a discord server to gather people in both blackouts as well if you'd like to join that. IF YOU GET KICKED, THATS NOT A MODERATOR. DISCORD IS REGISTERING NEW USERS AS A RAID. GO TO REACTION ROLES AND GET A COLOR OR THE TAG AT THE TOP.

I just discovered a band I'd never heard of by finding two of their albums in a mysterious plastic bag in an abandoned school building. Finally, I'm at the start of a fantasy novel
To make things even weirder they're called Vampire Weekend and they appear to be some kind of weird One Direction knock off from 2008? If forced to describe their music I'd say maybe soft rock, but honestly I have no idea. They're kinda good though??
you guys CAN NOT tell me Vampire Weekend was actually popular this is so embarrassing I'm going to take the high dive off a cliff
I HATE YOU GUYS SO MUCH 😭
I'm going to kill myself for real
Please don't let me go down in Tumblr history as the guy who's never heard of Vampire Weekend 😭
You guys are tearing me apart for this one but what I hate is that you're actually being really funny about it
Are you still active on tumblr or do you go on long breaks for a time? (Asking this in a genuine way btw)
heyo chiquite!
to be fair, we have been off and on with Tumblr - especially the main, it is more for us than anyone else - but eh, maybe we will come back to Tumblr. it's not like this shit show is going anywhere else.
What is y'all's opinion or feelings on if someone- who is not plural or a system- were to want to use "we/us" as part of their personal pronouns?? [genuinely asking] just curious, I hope this is not a rude question to ask /srs
[also, if this is getting too close to system discourse or you are uncomfortable with answering, you ofc do not have to answer!!! I would not want to make you uncomfortable. /gen ]
I hope you have a great day/night!
heyo chiquite.
so, first and foremost, we don't believe this is anything to do with discourse or the like. but also, we don't involve ourselves with that shit. so take that as ya will.
but, as for ya question?
our opinion is that everyone is allowed to express themselves as they wish. pronouns are a very big role in both identity and presentation. it is a comfort, being allowed to call yaselves as ya want. it's fucking amazing when someone respects that and uses it as well. and honestly, we think if it fits, then it's yours. no one else gets to tell ya what doesn't work just cause they have a personal issue. they don't have to think about it, but they should respect ya enough to use what works for ya.
especially bc, "we / us" is more for yaself, not anyone else. so.
use them chiquite. be free. be true. be happy. and if anyone gives ya crap, just tell them to deal with themselves on their own time.
