can we talk about how little it actually costs an artist, particularly a musician, to boycott israel? let's say an artist was unhappy with the behavior of the government of the People's Republic of China. let's say they actually gave a damn about the well-being of Uygurs and Tibetans et al. let's say they decided the best way to show that was to make it so the average chinese fan was unable to listen to their music. an aside: that would be stupid on the face of it, but let's say they decided to do it anyway. you could pick any number of countries for this thought experiment. there is a lot of guilt to go around. maybe they could decide they want to stick it to Trump and the american political establishment in the least possible effective way and stop doing business in the US. why might it be that they don't? because that would actually interfere meaningfully with cashflow. the israeli consumer market is not big. it is, in real terms, a very small and not terribly populous country. israel is, in the eyes of the average soulless music mogul, expendable. you can shit on it all you like and there are too few people there to make much difference. and it's probably offset considerably by increased sales to anti-zionists, because some precious little morons will see "anti-zionist" and immediately vomit up their paychecks without checking ANYTHING else. i wouldn't be surprised if it actively makes MORE money to boycott israeli. it probably does. you don't see these artists boycotting the PRC or the US or Russia or Pakistan or France or Brazil or the UK or the UAE because there is no percentage in doing that. nobody is going to buy your music because you boycotted pakistan over debt slavery because nobody gives a damn about just how many people are enslaved via debt in pakistan. (it's estimated at millions. MILLIONS.) again, it would be just as stupid and ineffectual as anything, but they're not even trying and the REASON they're not even trying is because antisemitism is where the real money is. there's always a market for that.
.
Part of the reason I don't really bother debating with or arguing with antisemites--of any type, really--is simple.
A major part of the basis of Jew-hate is that Jews are innately liars, axiomatically duplicitous. That we know "the Truth" and yet reject it, so anything we say is coming from a place of intentional deception.
In Christianity, Jews reject Jesus, and it becomes the basis of multiple antisemitic libels in later centuries (host desecration, among others) that the Jews do recognize Jesus as the Messiah, but reject him--and truth--for reasons that can only amount to "innately evil liars".
In Islam, Jews reject Mohammed, and it was and still is taught that the Jews moved into the region of Arabia "because they thought a prophet would come" (and not because of Rome ethnically cleansing us from our homeland), and that "the Jews recognized Muhammed as the prophet they had apparently been waiting for, and vowed to be his enemy as long as they lived" (more or less verbatim quote from the ten minute mark on this video, which was sent to me by someone trying to prove how much he "respected" Judaism). Same dynamic as the Christianity example--we somehow know that their Truth is correct, but reject it for... reasons.
And while I could go on with other ideologies, those two are the biggest ones which underpin so much of what came later.
So when you have a modern day Hamasnik screaming that "Zionism is the greatest example of antisemitism!" or other things of that ilk, it's the same thought process as the anti-Jewish hate that goes back over a thousand years: "Jews know The Truth, yet reject it in order to cling to their wickedness."
And, tying that to my original point...
If it is not just assumed, but taken as fact that I am a liar and innately so, that everything I say is a lie, that nothing I say can be trusted, because I, as a Jew, know The Truth and reject it...
Why bother wasting my effort?
You can see this at work as the foundation underlying every bit of Jew-hating belief.
All of the "[color]washing" allegations. "Israel isn't doing X because they actually believe in it! They're doing it for nefarious purposes, colluding together to lie to everyone, but I know the Truth!"
All of the genocide allegations. "I know the Truth, that Israel is killing all of the Palestinians! The facts are false and made up by (((them)))!"
On and on and on.
But the major issue is...
When someone comes in with the predetermined belief that anything you say is a lie, how can you convince them that what you say is true?
The answer is: You can't.
And that's why I don't bother trying to convince them.
And even if someone has officially rejected their religious upbringing, it's much harder to shake these deep-rooted thought patterns.

henmazzig:
I hate how angry I get in this video.
“I’ll get into trouble for this.”
She won’t.
Nobody has ever gotten in trouble for this.
The takes get softer, the platforms get bigger, and the bravery is announced in advance like a tour date.
Robby Hoffman says antisemitism isn’t the worst thing. In a surprise to absolutely no one, she co-stars on Hacks with Hannah Einbinder, Hollywood’s loudest anti-Israel Jew. Maybe attacking and distancing yourself from your own people is just what that set does for applause now. It’s becoming a genre.
Since October 7th, “not the worst thing” looked like this: Matilda, a little girl shot dead at a Hanukkah celebration on the beach. Yaron and Sarah, shot in the back leaving a Jewish museum. He’d just bought the ring. Melvin and Adrian, killed outside their synagogue on Yom Kippur. Karen Diamond, 82, set on fire at a walk for the hostages. She died of her burns.
They weren’t offended. They were murdered.
My grandparents survived the Farhud in Baghdad, 1941. Two days, their neighbors, the streets full of Jewish dead.
Every massacre in our history started the same way— with someone influential shrugging.
Antisemitism is bad. That’s the whole sentence.
I think he deserves to be angrier, actually. we’re watching this explode in every corner of society, to the point where people are terrified to let strangers know they’re Jewish, to the point where Jews merely existing in public places or at events causes people to cause massive uproars, hurl slurs at them, and accost them. even if this didn’t come with a death toll - and it does - the hate crimes and harassment that precede murders (we know this historically) would be cause for concern. the arrogant, callous reaction that it’s not a big deal is exactly why it’s becoming normalized. everyone engaging in it knows they can get away with it.
i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.
actually I think you should be normal about ordinary citizens of authoritarian countries and yes that applies even to that country you're thinking of right now
"but they support [dictator] and [violent action]!" okay is it possible that a combination of propaganda, election rigging, and authoritarian crackdowns on dissent could lead a population to look like it supports something most people would find distasteful under more reasonable circumstances
"craving a food means your body needs something that food can offer" now what the fuck does my body need with an ice cream
it makes your brain happy! your body could use some joy too
no everyone shut up and listen. truths were said
in all seriousness, if you're craving ice cream, it's likely that your body needs fat and carbs. If ice cream isn't an option for whatever reason, you can try to feed yourself something else with a significant amount of fat and/or carbs. You may also be dehydrated if you're craving sweets.
That said, sometimes your body and brain do genuinely just need a pick me up.
The more frequently you practice intuitive eating like this, the better you'll get at figuring out what it is that your body is asking for.
Also, a great trick is to take a look at what you're craving, note the nutritional contents (fat, carbs, protein, plant matter/fiber) and try and figure out what else sounds tasty for your particular craving. This can give you more data points to go off of. For instance, if you're craving ice cream, but a sweet roll sounds just as good, it's probably carbs your body is asking you for. That said, if you're craving ice cream and a sweet roll doesn't sound good at all BUT a bagel with strawberry cream cheese or avocado toast DOES sound good, you know it's fat you're needing.
If all you're craving is ice cream and nothing else sounds worth the effort, you may just need a low effort mood boost, which is also totally valid! This can also help you even if you can't have ice cream, because now that you know what your body actually wants, you know there are more ways to fulfill that order than the way it asked you to!
Faith is the defeat of probability by the power of possibility.

WELL NO SHIT.
This is what we mean when we say that we're politically homeless. Nazis to the Right of us, Stalinists to the Left of us, and here we are, stuck in the middle, with a senile old fascist in charge.
what if we admitted to each other that it's not always really romance that we want. What if we admitted that what we're really craving is intimacy and society taught us romance is the only way to get it.
