I mourn the loss of the potential conflict and angst the revised oath would've given us.
Imagining it from Garroth's POV is actually so painful.
You help revise the Oath of The Guard to prepare for an impending danger, to protect the people you love. The decision was already hard enough, but it is made more difficult when your Lord, the woman you love, expresses her horror that this newly implemented rule would mean forcing someone she cares about to end his own life.
So for her sake, you keep it a secret. For her sake you turn a blind eye. Just this once.
Years later—after your relationship with the person you were previously warry of transforms from rivalry, to friendship, to something more—you forget about the oath.
Until one night, your heart comes to you, sword in hand, and kneels before you. Begging you to end his life in order to protect the woman you both love. He explains that he is a danger to everything you both swore to protect. He pleads for you to uphold the long forgotten oath on his behalf.
Dread begins to swallow you. The realisation settles in your bones.

This is likely impossible for Mermaid Tales, but I wanna see the human characters use the soul echo. I'm pretty sure the soul echo works by body swapping. Aphmau & Zane are switching from their variants. I wanna to see Aaron & Laurance swap. I wanna see if it works on them...
I'm genuinely curious on what would change for them...also, theoretically. If Laurance swapped with his mcd counterpart...would he have the Shadow Knight abilities? The same goes for Aaron and his mystreet counterpart. Could Aaron turn someone into a werewolf in mermaid tales?

Was reading my own posts and got reminded of my shadow knights parents au where vyald steals levin and sasha and gene deal with it. This choice leads to a completely different timline including Aphmau's whereabouts.
Aphmau ends up in O'Kasis instead. And even tho she definitely doesn't become lord there, she still becomes a beloved member of the village as she ends up helping around.
Sure, in theory, O'Kasis is a far more richer village, hell, they even pride themselves as a kingdom, but as it happens, the good conditions mostly apply only for the higher class, not for the working one. Besides, I don't imagine living under King Garte's rule after he started going off the rails as a very nice experience in any context. Or when you know that the most likely person to take over afterwards is Zane, tho this is more said by me, as I'm not sure how much the villagers know of the King's ""youngest"" son who dedicated most of his life to study the teachings of Lady Irene.
With that being said, Aphmau's help ends up being very much wanted and welcomed by the regular townsfolk. Her involvement with the village does catch the attention of Zane's men as well. Who is the random girl with particular tattos on her body who is building fences.
She gets arrested to put it simply and eventually brought to meet the High Priest of O'Kasis who has heard of the tattoos.
What I'm personally imagining after this point is toxic mcd zanemau where zane becomes more and more convinced that she's irene(very common thing in most of my aus ive come to realise) and aphmau takes one look at this madman and says 'fuck nooo'. Aphmau at this point in time in this au would really just want to be helping the village while having to deal with Zane's weird ass advances and the jury of nine. Im not really sure where this goes but this is what she does generally .
I would binge this , I love the au

Haven’t posted in approximately 4 million years, so of course the perfect time to draw and post smth new is when I’m supposed to be studying for my finals and finishing up my research paper :’)
I may have a ways to go before I can enjoy my summer, but at least the blorbos can have their fair share of summer fun and chaos

idk if people read plays but for the last couple days in my theatre class were reading The Curious Savage by John Patrick (which is a really good play, I think you guys should read it or watch a production) and i was thinking about the dynamic between Jeff and Miss Willie and got reminded of aarmau
there’s a little spoilers if you don’t wanna know them but basically. The Curious Savage is about a woman who gets placed in an institution because (to oversimplify) her children want her money and use a sort of “we’ll get you out if you give us the money” trade off. but the woman is there with some other people, all of whom have their own issues but the ones that stick out specifically are Jeff and Miss Willie
just for some background on their characters, Miss Willie is a sort of caretaker for the residents at the Cloisters. Jeff is a patient who fought in a war (i can’t remember which, i think ww2) and keeps a hand constantly covering his cheek to hide a scar.
so their dynamic is initially a red flag. Miss Willie is shown to be more affectionate with Jeff, even going as far as kissing his cheek. Jeff expresses his dislike for this with an exchange similar to the following (this is entirely from my memory so it’s not exact):
JEFF: I do wish you’d stop kissing me, Miss Willie.
MISS WILLIE: Well, you are the handsomest.
JEFF: I can’t imagine what my wife would say if she heard you.
MISS WILLIE: If I knew her, I’m sure she’d be fine with it.
JEFF: Do try and remember not to, please.
and Miss Willie drops it after that. this behavior kind of continues in the background throughout the show. in dialogue Miss Willie continues to be affectionate with Jeff, and in productions Miss Willie is always shown to hover closer to him more often than not. it’s not until the end of the play, when the Cloisters residents are living in a fantasy world, that it’s revealed why.
Jeff has (i’m pretty sure) a variation of wartime PTSD that gives him some sort of amnesia. In reality, Jeff and Miss Willie are married, and the reason she’s so affectionate with him is because he’s her husband. from their interaction, Jeff is aware that he’s married he just doesn’t know who he’s married to. the other small detail between them is that Miss Willie constantly calls Jeff handsome, which is important because he covers part of his face to hide a scare he doesn’t actually have. the audience learns that Miss Willie isn’t exactly a caretaker for all the residents, she’s there because her husband is
now, onto the aarmau pipeline. i don’t remember a lot from later seasons of mystreet, i’m fairly certain it’s been blocked from my memory for the most part, however i do remember that aaron has amnesia at the end. he doesn’t remember Aphmau, but he does remember Shu—similar to how Jeff can’t remember Miss Willie but he knows that he’s married.
another thing that just kind of reminded me of aaron is the fact that Jeff covers his face because he believes it’s disfigured, making him “unattractive.” he’s embarrassed by the scar, similar to how Aaron eventually became embarrassed of his werewolf ancestry. I’m not sure how that would translate exactly, but those two things and the ways Miss Willie and Aphmau deal with them respectively are good parallels of each other
