we need fewer songs about falling in love and breaking up and MORE songs about famous disasters of the sea
being told you’d cruise the seas for american gold you’d fire no guns, shed no tears, now you’re a broken man on a halifax pier might not be a universal experience, but like neither is the club. so a little perspective might be nice

Okay, between this and me getting a question straight up asking for Pretty Little Liars in my game two weeks ago, have the Jeopardy writers been watching PLL (because if so, condolences)
Honestly, incredible choice for the Hades 2 writing team to realize that "I Am Gonna Claw Out Your Eyes" was kinda gay and fully lean in and just have Scylla's next song be a straight up love ballad about Mel.
We've come so far as a society, even the Geoguessr youtubers are queerbaiting themselves
*packing my suitcase for a 3 day trip* hm, but what if I need my terracotta warriors..
omg it's been 84 years but welcome back captain
Me when Tristan beat me to the buzzer on the Gracie Mansion question in actual Jeopardy
every time a man is on jeopardy i'm like ugh. can we let woman speak
Tune into tonight’s Jeopardy to see if they will let me, a somewhat woman, speak.
Okay, I am honestly very bad at reading books these days, but @usuallyproperlyhydrated tagged me in a thing, and I do have answers. So!
1. The last book I read:
Murder at the Black Cat Cafe by Seishi Yokomizo. Not my usual genre, but my book club is trying to branch out of SFF, and I really enjoyed it!
2. A book I'd recommend:
Depends on who I'm recommending it to, but let's go with Empire of AI by Karen Hao, because it was very good, I can recommend it "as a professional in the field", and mostly I need everyone to know that Sam Altman genuinely thought Oppenheimer should have been an inspirational movie about how great physics is.
3. A book I couldn't put down:
Not Here to Make Friends by Jodi McAlister is part of a trilogy of Australian romance novels based on The Bachelor. This is the last of the trilogy but also by far the best. Not going to say it's the best book I've ever read, but incredibly readable.
4. A book I've read twice or more:
I read The Left Hand of Darkness once for class in college, once for a book club, and I think at least once more just because I love it.
5. A book on my TBR:
Honestly, I have 10 million books on my TBR account of my broken brain cannot read books half the time, so on that note, I really want to read The Devourers by Indra Das on account of I was supposed to read it for book club, and everyone in my book club said it was really good, but unfortunately that was the month where I was nonstop studying for Jeopardy, so I did not read it.
6. A book I've put down:
I believe that someday Jasmine Guillory will write a book I like, but I did return Flirting Lessons to the library half read on account of it was just not that interesting.
7. A book on my wishlist:
The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennet on account of I need to read it soon for book club, and I'm very excited to read it, but the library will not have it for me on time.
8. A favorite book from childhood:
Lots of them, but I feel like I'm referencing Dealing With Dragons a lot.
9. A book I'd give a friend:
Not a book I've read myself, but I gave my sister (who loves food writing) 97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement, and she had lots of good things to say about it!
10. A book of poetry or lyrics I own:
Both of Sondheim's lyric books: Finishing the Hat and Look I Made a Hat
11. A nonfiction book I own:
Word by Word by Kory Stamper is a deep dive on how dictionaries are made, and it is laser targeted at me and so, so good. Very excited to read her new book on color words when I get a chance.
12. What I'm currently reading:
Needed two books for vacation (one physical for lounging, one ebook for on the go), so Swordheart by T Kingfisher (lent from a friend, having a great time) and Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett (not my favorite Pratchett, but it was available from the library, and sometimes you just need to read some Discworld).
13. What I'm planning on reading next:
Just got my library hold of Little Bosses Everywhere, so that if I finish my current books quickly, otherwise the aforementioned Tainted Cup.
Tagging @inimitablereel and @attilarrific because I feel like they have interesting book thoughts, but also no pressure/considered yourself tagged if and only if you want to be tagged if you've read this far.
this is the future liberals want
I hate when king arthur has all these fussy little steps in the instructions and you're like "no way do these fussy little steps matter" but you try it and they do. they matter so much.
I thought you meant Camelot quests and I was like "that's fair, 'never pick a four leaf clover on the last Wednesday of the month' IS a fussy little step that shouldn't matter" but then I was like "wait isn't that also a flour company"
nooo I am not a beleaguered knight of the round table I am making elaborate focaccia 😭
Pro hag, anti ai
Look, I'm not even saying that I'm good at pop culture trivia, but watching Jeopardy contestants miss 4 pop girls back to back is killing me a little bit.
