➡️ Content warnings on fiction are a courtesy.
➡️ Not every medium of fiction and storytelling has or is expected to have content warnings or extensive tagging.
➡️ Print novels do not traditionally warn for content in any way.
➡️ Until AO3 came along, fanfiction did not traditionally warn for content in any significant way.
➡️ An author is only obligated to warn for content to the degree mandated by the format they publish their fiction on.
➡️ Content warnings beyond the minimum are a courtesy, not an obligation.
➡️ 'Creator chose not to warn' is a valid tag that authors are allowed to use on AO3. It means there could be anything in there and you have accepted the risk. 'May contain peanuts!'
➡️ Writers are allowed to use 'Creator chose not to warn' for any reason, including to maintain surprise and avoid spoilers.
➡️ 'Creator chose not to warn' is not the same thing as 'no archive warnings apply'.
➡️ It is your responsibility to protect yourself and close a book, or hit the back button if you find something in fiction that you're reading that upsets you.
➡️ You are responsible for protecting yourself from fiction that causes you discomfort.
this blog hates donald trump
Look how many people hate him. I’m pretty damn happy about that 😁😁😁😁😁😁
I’ve never reblogged something so fast
This blog hates, donald trump!
Can I be honest with yall I don't want to hear SHIT against cishets at pride this year
"But it's not FOR them!!!" The biggest military power in the world belongs to a christofascist nation overseen by a felon found guilty of 34 federal crimes and has greenlit a gestapo with more direct funding than the entire military of Canada for the purpose of ethnic cleansing. Let Hetero Jessica throw some biodegradable glitter at a municipal parade
At this point if anyone is trying to exclude anyone benignly pro-queer from a pro-queer space I'm just going to assume you're a fed or something idk like something something destabilize the movement from within or whatever
You know technology literacy is dying because I saw this meme with 76k likes
F11 the full screen button? You’re scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???
Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document 😖
If you had to learn what the F keys on your computer do through me reblogging this post, then I'm glad you did. Computer literacy is not a skill that gets taught anymore, and it is absolutely one that needs to be taught in order to be learned. Don't ever feel bad for not knowing something, but ☝️ don't ever stop learning learning about your environment, the tools you use, and especially the people around you
Never stop learning+ Never stop sharing what you learned
You know I gotta learn shitpost brevity. Most of my successful posts are like 3 paragraph essays, minimum. Fucking dissertations. Terrible note-to-word ratio. Inefficient. In this economy? In this economy? Unsustainable. Everyone else posting "blowing my balls up at the bomb factory" and getting 50,000 notes. Amazing ROI. They're the future and I'm on dial-up. The market's gonna out-compete me.
God, cooking really is some kind of magic.
Garlic starts tasting all sharp, but if it’s cooked slow in olive oil it turns round and sweet and tastes like the puddle of sunlight on the stairs that you stop in for a moment to let your toes warm or bask in for an afternoon with a good book. It goes from cold wet winter air biting with the wind to sunlight just before it hits golden hour and is still yellow but not yet honeyed or pink.
And onions do a similar process, but when cooked they still aren’t as round or full, they taste translucent like they do become as the taste shifts. They are sweet like they have given up their bite in favor of working with whatever you put them next to. In stews they balance the grounding flavors of beef and potatoes while sitting next to carrots, turning sweet too. Celery isn’t sweet, it balances the onion and carrot, though, all on its own to give flavor to the broth. When onions are cooked in a pan until they’re see through it’s like they’ve just relaxed and they settle away from the bite that makes eyes water and nose sting like hand sanitizer on a paper cut, and gently shifts towards tasting sweet in the same not sharp way as a breeze in the summer is sweeter than that of winter. The same and fundamentally different all at once. It tastes like the air beginning to cool on a hot day when served with summer squash and zucchini all sautéed in a pan.
Potatoes can be just about anything with a little convincing.
And I can put things in a pot or a pan and end up with a meal that tastes like comfort and a hundred good memories, and each ingredient shifts the others as they meld like when artists put a little bit of one color into all the others to make a palette cohesive.
And rhubarb is an insane plant because the leaves are literally poison, but the stalk makes breads that are heavenly and taste like waking up to light and is a little bit sharp, but there’s a sprinkle of sugar on the top of the loaf to pair with it. And Rhubarb and strawberries go from two things that are a bit sharp, strawberries can be clear cutting and sour as any other fruit, even if they’re sweet as well, and blend into something that maybe isn’t round, but tastes more opaque than either of them on their own, and tastes like the sun when it’s 70 and sunny before summer heat truly comes bearing down and there’s a breeze leaving just the slightest chill in the air. And it tastes like stumbling up the stairs when staying with family to the sound of laughter through the door and everyone already up and smiling and having pie for breakfast, handing you a plate before you’ve fully woken up.
And almost all of the recipes I know are a chaotic mix of whatever looks right and whatever you have on hand because my mom doesn’t measure anything and it always tastes like it’s the same thing, but it’s never done the same way twice. And I swear she works magic sometimes, but now I must be doing it too because I made a pasta sauce the other day that felt like bare feet on the warm bricks of a walk way at the end of a day in summer, and I surprised myself because I’ve only ever made it next to her or watched. I thought that sort of magic would be harder to learn. And I’m kind of disappointed because if there’s one thing I know about this kind of magic, it’s that it’s meant to be shared, but right now its just me relearning how to make magic, for the first time on my own.
The notes are broken. This is what tumblr is all about apparently.
THE NOTES ARE BROKEN! This has been reblogged so many times, Tumblr just shrugged and said “infinity”
My friend sent me this with a "this made me think of you."
I feel so seen.

If you’re pining you need to stop and pick a different tree. You know, spruce it up a little
I’m still proud of this post. It’s evergreen
I will probably get through this just like I have gotten through everything before but I need to be really stressed and scared first
Hey, quick PSA for young or otherwise inexperienced fic writers:
"*****smut marked with asterisks so you can skip!*****""
Don't. Don't do this.
You let readers know what your fic contains through proper tagging and rating. Content warning notes at the top of the chatter are also great. You can even summarize key "this is the plot relevant stuff you missed of you're skipping this chapter" notes at the bottom too! This is a much smoother reading experience.
This is HELL on screen readers which is a disability access issue. Screen readers will read out every single asterisk you put, which I have seen done as entire page breaks. It's an awful reading experience. Please just don't.
Readers do not need their hands held through the reading experience. If they're enjoying the fic but don't care for smut, they can just skim until it gets interesting again. If they REALLY don't like smut, you warned them. There's a back button. You don't have to do a special song and dance isolating out the specific parts you think might be "icky". (If you think those bits are icky and don't like writing them, consider just don't! Fanfic is a hobby we do for fun and you don't have to write anything you don't find enjoyable. There's plenty of readers for gen fic and smut free ship fic).
If someone reads something they don't like then gets mad at you, block em. They need to be responsible for their own choices. It's not your job to please everyone. Your job as a fic writer of his to tell an entertaining and engaging story. (The reverse is true for a reader that demands smut or says it would "improve" the fic but that's not the story you're trying to tell. Block button is your friend!)
This is also super common in scene breaks.
Please, please don't try to span the entire page with whatever symbol you're using for your scene breaks. It takes an eternity for screen years to get through, and typically has me noping out of even the most interesting stores.
Instead, use just three (or fewer) make. Three is standard, and does the job without making your story unreadable.
In general: please, think of the screen readers.
as a person whose only good trait is their eyes, this has eluded me until i was tasked to test websites with a screen reader.
It is hell
It is absolute hell
From navigation to listening to the voices
It's just awful
Since then I've tried to write with screen readers in mind because the number of websites that think about accessibility is SO SO SMALL
If you don't believe me, use NVDA which is a free accessibility tool. Otherwise you have to spend thousands of dollars for a slightly better one. Then try to navigate a website.
So yeah, listen to the above posts
S. snuffleupagus, a newly described species of fish, is named after the beloved Sesame Street character, Mr. Snuffleupagus, to which it bear
SNUFFLEUPAGUS REAL
Fantastic article!! The guys looking for it were fish researchers who saw it one time, knew instantly it was an undescribed species, and then tried for nearly 20 years to find and document it!
It's a type of ghost pipefish, related to seahorses, and it floats around coral reefs looking like a piece of algae and hunting unsuspecting prey
They are, of course, named after Snuffleufagus from Sesame Street!
Later on it the project, they got citizen science involved, and people across the Pacific started reporting sightings of snuffy fish from all over!
Hooray for science and hooray for S. snuffleufagus !
Woman murders man in broad daylight
beautiful like to reblog ratio on this
That's because people are reblogging it every time they see it. Like I'm doing right now lmao
this video was always funny but I found this guy’s Instagram and he is Always Doing This, like it’s hundreds of slow motion videos of him walking muscled and shirtless through crowded streets around the world as people react to him—many of them appear to be filmed on the same street as in this video. which means this lady probably sees him doing this all the time and was like OH THERE HE IS AGAIN lmfaoooo
That does beg the question--did he upload this himself?
yes and he did not acknowledge it in the caption or tags at all 😂
"Maybe it's just stress/anxiety" is so crazy as a Dismissive Statement because even when it *is* anxiety it's such an understatement to be like "how about you just chill out idk" when your body is poisoning itself with its own stress hormones. Like okay sometimes it is anxiety. This is still physically happening to me
"It's probably just stress" and it's like well documented that it can just kill people sometimes
i like when characters have weird inexplicable intimate bonds but i don't understand romantic or sexual attraction so it's just weird bullshit instead #myweirdbullshit #ilovemyweirdbullshit #secretthirdthing
