literally the best line ever
what is this from I want to read it immediately
have yâall seen that nasa pic of the earth with the sun behind it on the night time side it really really fucked me up my own soul became solid and likeâŠâŠâŠâŠ.. weeped!
who wouldnât see this and then look deeply into their own emotional playing field to see what improvements could be made purely inspired by the vulnerable earth. this is the face of all literal gods
Thatâs actually called the Overview Effect- something experienced by some astronauts that makes them see that âfrom space, national boundaries vanish, the conflicts that divide people become less important, and the need to create a planetary society with the united will to protect this âpale blue dotâ becomes both obvious and imperativeâ.
May you always have enough for rent.
and enough left over for food and transportation
shall your internet never disconnect
May you pay off your college debt
all of this
May you have enough gas for the week
May you have the emotional strength to get thru the day
May you build with someone that understands that you are just trying to get and live like all the above. And they should jump on that train too!
MenĆ
ok so thereâs a game me and my friends play called âdonât get me startedâ and basically someone gives another person a random topic and they have to go on an angry rant about it and itâs the best thing thatâs ever happened to us at parties and car rides so I highly recommend playing sometimes with your friends
I love this idea. We used to do things like this in Improv.
Related game: âTHINK ABOUT IT.â Youâre given a random topic, and your job is to build it into an epic conspiracy theory, the crazier the better. You end your rant with a serious face and the command that your listeners âThink about it.âÂ
Another related game: Illuninati. Similar to Think About It except you are given 2 completely different topics and you have to connect them to each other in a wild conspiracy rant
Rb to safe an awkward hang out
is this viran
you can make nearly any object into a good insult if you put âyou absoluteâ in front of it
example: you absolute coat hanger
as well u can just add âedâ to any object and itâs sounds like you were really drunk
example: i was absolutely coat hangered last night
#i was gazeboed mate #i was absolutely baubled
Meanwhile, âutterâ works for the first (e.g., âyou utter floorboardâ) but somehow âutterlyâ doesnât seem to work as well for the second (âI was utterly floorboardedâ).
Utterly doesnât work for drunk because itâs the affix for turning random objects into terms for *shocked*, obviously.
⊠huh.  I thought that might just be the similarity to âflooredâ, and yet âI was utterly coat hangeredâ does seem to convey something similar.
I have to tell you, I am utterly sandwiched at this discovery.
Completely makes the phrase mean âsuper tiredâ.
âGod, itâs been a long week, I am completely coat-hangered.â
Something is
Something is wrong with our language
Is it a glitch or a feature?
Feature
this neat feature is called collocative substitution, and it occurs when certain words are strongly linked to certain context and/or phrases. when you read/hear a pair of words that usually wouldnât go together, your brain fills in the context with what would normally be inferred, given the originally phrased pairing. thus, finding out that thereâs a term for this phenomenon may indeed leave you utterly sandwiched. lesser known or less strongly linked phrases and pairings may not be able to translate substituted words to appropriately fit the inferred context, so you were not utterly floorboarded at the club last night, but rather you were absolutely floorboarded, and as this explanation continues to drag on, you may by the end of it find yourself completely coathangered from read it all.
I just had the delighted realization that English treats the concept of ânounâ, âverbâ, and âadjectiveâ as not entirely recommended suggestions. Any words, not even ours.
English just doesnât steal words; itâs like words meet English at a bar thinking theyâre mono-grammatical and two hours later are falling out of the backroom door into an alley totally stoned with an âI am so totes grammarfluidâ tattoo on their ass and Englishâs phone number in sharpie on their arm.Â
âŠAustin has a boiled water warning, you got a better way to say that, feel free. Under protest Iâm drinking bottled and boiled water and grammarfluid just looks fucking cool.
Thank you linguistics side of tumblr
On todayâs episode of AJâs Near Death Experiences!!!
We dropped a 30â, 200 lb,$7-10,000 parking lot light pole at Stadium!! I was on the boom deck guiding this pole down, (so I had a pretty firm grip on it,) and the rigging let go. The damn thing slammed into the deck, bounced and launched into the concrete and slid a good 10â on the light heads. So, in those split seconds my initial reaction was to jump on the post to try and catch it, (thatâs seriously dumb, never try to catch it,) instead I jumped back 4â and got to safety. No one else tried to catch it either so there were no injuries. The impacts sheared some of the bolts, and the lights are pretty damaged. Stupid thing is, I saw it coming at the last minute and didnât say anything because Iâm not ticketed to rig or hoist, and I didnât want to over step my j-menâs lead (It was the Owners son operating it so heâs probably ticketed, but also not going to get fired like anyone else would have...) So, thereâs a ton of paperwork now, next Mondayâs safety meeting is going to be riveting, and if Iâm asked how to prevent this in the future, Iâm saying every current journeymen (and myself preferably,) needs to be ticketed in Rigging and Hoisting. Welcome to my adrenaline filled life.
Momâs Work
Reboot to support this hardworking single mom
technology related sensory memories from my childhood
sliding the metal cover on floppy disks
the slight resistance of inserting cassette and video tapes
ripping off the strips of holed paper off of dot matrix printer paperÂ
rolling the wheel on a disposable camera to take another photo
The heaviness and rubber texture of the roller ball in a computer mouse, and the little ring of lint
Unkinking the curly cord of a telephone while you talked
The -peww sound and slowly fading image of a crt monitor turning off, and then running your finger through the static on the dusty glass
The crunch of opening or closing a plastic Disney vhs cover
The sound effects in kidpix
Extending and collapsing metal antennas and using them as magic wands
âŠGod, it is so weird these things arenât around any more. Cause itâs true, the sensations are so distinct. Itâs bizarre to think about missing these tiny relics.
I have 99 problems and money could solve all of them...
Iâm almost worth more money dead... XD ;I know Iâm not really... donât worry about me.
Me: I donât know if I ever want to be pregnant, Iâd rather adopt a kid or two that are a bit older
Someone: Are you SURE? Older adoptees present UNIQUE CHALLENGES
Me: We are discussing human beings not digital pets
Literally every child every born and/or parented presents unique challenges. Itâs like people are unique individualsâŠ..or somethingâŠâŠâŠâŠ.
An amazing and revolutionary concept
When people ask me, âWhy do you want to adopt teenagers?â I always answer, âBecause you asked like that.â
Iâm real over it. If I become a foster mom to a 17 year old kid and I get the privilege of the option to adopt them? You better believe I am legally making that kid mine.
âTheyâll be a legal adult in no time, why spend the money to adopt? Theyâll be aged out of the system.â
Thereâs no aging out of family, Marvin.
âThey might be rebellious or smoke or do drugs or steal things! What if they wonât listen to you?â
Then I guess Iâll have to step up and do some fruxking parenting, Stanley.
âYou want to adopt problem children then?â
All. Children. Are. Problem. Children. If youâre not prepared to deal with the fact that at some point, any child ever, whether you birthed them yourself or adopted them at any age, could become a problem? Then you are NOT ready to have children, and should really just step off and let the people who actually want to be parents live in peace with their kids.
Hey Iâm so glad this post is picking up
âOlder children are so difficult why would adopt them??â ALL CHILDREN ARE DIFFICULT GUESS WE SHOULDNâT HAVE ANY GODDAMN
I love this post so, so much.
This is actually something Iâm going to do one day~ Iâm going to foster or adopt older kids (or siblings,) and be a firm, but gentle guiding hand to those beautiful kidlets~

trans men don't have female bodies, but if you don't feel attracted to us could you please like, i dont know, keep it to yourself? that sounds rude but what i mean is that we're not gonna force you to be attracted to us, but it's still disenheartening and exhausting to be constantly reminded that we arent seen as either desireable or men in the gay community, and it's just a thing that so many terfs/truscum/transmeds/transphobes can latch onto.
Did you miss my entire spiel on that subject? I recognize the issues inherent in my mindset of being attracted to cis male bodies and Iâm working on getting over that. Trans men are desirable, we just need to get over our fixation on⊠well, dicks.
No, no one needs to âget overâ their innate sexual orientation or try to force themselves to be attracted to people they are not attracted to. Your internalized homophobia is showing.
Also, to the asker: gay men will never want you, Alyssa. Gay men like dick and you donât have one. Find a bi or straight guy.
I feel like being a gay man is problematic in itself. I feel like I should want to be with a woman, not other men.
yeah thats internalized homophobia. it happens a lot.
Maybe a moderate amount of internalized homophobia is good for you. Personally, itâs kept me more open to romantic possibilities.
hm i cant relate to that. especially as a woman.
âMaybe a moderate amount of internalized homophobia is good for youâ
Honey!!! Sweetie!!! No! You think straight people have internalized heterophobia??? You think they feel bad about their attraction to the opposite sex? They sure donât, and you donât see TRAs harassing straight people about their opposite sex attraction.Â
Well it doesnât help that thereâs a layer of misogyny in men choosing other men over women
@newrucas sexuality is not a choice, it canât be. being a gay men is not misogynistic. there is nothing wrong with being a gay man. you are not âchoosingâ men over women, this is how you were born and always will be, and there is nothing wrong with that. you may have some amounts of transphobia ingrained in you, which is why you prefer cis men to trans men, but honestly? itâs not too much of a biggie. gay trans men can always date other gay trans men, cis men arent too important in our lives. and again, there is NO misogyny in men choosing other men over women sexually or romantically, because a) itâs not a choice, and b) itâs just being gay! women donât need to have men be sexually attratced to then to be liberated, women donât need men all the time. you have done nothing wrong, and youâre just working through some internalized homophobia.
@thisispeaktrans âno men will ever want to be with youâ i literally have a boyfriend, who is also trans. i dont date cis men, or any women.Â
To simplify all of this, itâs okay to be who you are and be attracted to who youâre attracted to. There isnât underlying problematic â-ismsâ, there isnât anything wrong with you, so long as youâre true to yourself, and who you love. Life is fucking hard and confusing at the best of times, why not relax and just be the best version of you, that you can be~!!
Ruby Bridges was the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.
This movie made me cry, I was so heart broken by how Ruby Bridges was treated! She was only 6, but was so strong. She is a very brave girl and she did not care what the white folks called her.
People are simply disgusting to minimize people by skin color!
Ruby you might not think youâre a hero⊠But to other people you are! You are A HERO and you are A PERSON WHO MADE AMERICA CHANGE!
this is white culture, this is their history, this is their legacyâŠbeing enraged at a damn baby just because sheâs black.
sheâs still alive by the way
Ruby Bridges in 2010Â
âAs Bridges describes it, âDriving up I could see the crowd, but living in New Orleans, I actually thought it was Mardi Gras. There was a large crowd of people outside of the school. They were throwing things and shouting, and that sort of goes on in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.â Former United States Deputy Marshal Charles Burks later recalled, âShe showed a lot of courage. She never cried. She didnât whimper. She just marched along like a little soldier, and weâre all very very proud of her.âÂ
U.S. Marshals escorted Bridges to and from school
As soon as Bridges entered the school, white parents pulled their own children out; all the teachers refused to teach while a black child was enrolled. Only one person agreed to teach Ruby and that was Barbara Henry, from Boston, Massachusetts, and for over a year Henry taught her alone, âas if she were teaching a whole class.â
Every morning, as Bridges walked to school, one woman would threaten to poison her;Â because of this, the U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, allowed Ruby to eat only the food that she brought from home.
Another woman at the school put a black baby doll in a wooden coffin and protested with it outside the school, a sight that Bridges Hall has said âscared me more than the nasty things people screamed at us.â At her motherâs suggestion, Bridges began to pray on the way to school, which she found provided protection from the comments yelled at her on the daily walks.â

THIS SHIT WAS ONLY 58 YEARS AGO. PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS RACIST TERRORISM AND ACTS LIKE IT ARE STILL ALIVE, AND THEIR KIDS ARE IN THEIR 40âČS AND 50âČS.Â
DONâT LET RACISM APOLOGISTS GET AWAY WITHÂ âWHY ARE YOU LIVING IN THE PAST,â BULLSHIT ARGUMENTS. WE ARE LITERALLY STILL DEALING WITH THE FAMILIES THAT FORMED HATE MOBS OVER BLACK CHILDREN ATTENDING SCHOOL WITH WHITE KIDS.
This was her then:
This is literally how she looks in 2017.Â
Sheâs literally not even  old.Â
Holy shit. I need to read up more on black history... I had no idea... school didnât teach me this shit. I want to know more. Iâm so sorry, that these thing happened... I want to be educated, so I can take a stand as an ally without ignorance.
