Games from older consoles are being made less and less available to the point so much of the industry's history could easily vanish without
Preserving classic videogames from consoles past.
I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.
Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!
Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.
I've been using Vimm's Lair for years, I have yet to see a single bad link or virus on the entire site. It's arguably the safest and most comprehensive archive of video games in existence. Preserved history
who wants a preview of extra crispy IFS pages?
alongside the JTHM coloring project i am remaking the IFS books to have a clean reprint available. after the frustration of having every copy of IFS I've owned always have some sort of messy printing/ printing error like offset giving characters double eyes/ color highlights at line work. and one copy having a dust/ ink smear streaked across multiple pages.
lets make bad art together
i just realized that i forgot to put the word âmakeâ in the image and i think thats fitting lets bad art together
Realizing that I am not employing enough of my free will to become a nuisance at work
Me watching this:
Iâm not letting this rot in the tags
me holding a gun to a mushroom: tell me the name of god you fungal piece of shit
mushroom: can you feel your heart burning? can you feel the struggle within? the fear within me is beyond anything your soul can make. you cannot kill me in a way that matters
me cocking the gun, tears streaming down my face: IâM NOT FUCKING SCARED OF YOU
Hey OP? What the FUCK does this mean?
decay exists as an extant form of life
Thatâs a terrifying answer, have a nice day
THE ORIGINAL?!?!!!!!!!!;!!!!!!!!???
I kept forgetting my nighttime antidepressant so I set an alarm where the sound was a recording of me saying "HEY. TAKE YOUR FUCKING PILL" because I thought it would be funny. It was funny about three times, and then it started making me mad and I'd dismiss it right away to make it stop. So I handed my phone to my partner, who made another recording sweetly saying "Okay Shira, it's time to take your medication" and now I don't get mad anymore and I take my pill. The "compassion over punishment" camp has gotta get something wrong one of these days
Wh-what do you mean itâs from a birthday cake

not naming names but some of you are so creative and talented it's an honor to have you in my phone
dystopia au where we are all assigned one of two chosen genders at birth
Thanks to ultrasounds, the genders can be assigned before birth.  The people are so excited to conform they throw âGender reveal partiesâ to make sure their offspring exist in a strict binary since before they can even form thoughts.Â
Children are color-coded according to their binary assignment.Â
One of the genders is seen as inherently inferior.
This all sounds really effing creepy when you put it that way
#BECAUSE IT IS
And if you deviate from the assigned gender you can be disowned by your family, fired from your job, and beaten by authorities.
i am of the sincere belief that if ur on ur computer a lot you should visually customize it to high hell and back not just for funsies but also because it has literally made me less depressed before. its kind of like how rearranging your bedroom is good for your brain, yknow. i do stuff like this every few months
and if anyone wants to follow suit
LIVE WALLPAPER: wallpaper engine. only thing on here that costs any money (its like 5 bucks on steam). im sure theres free alternatives but this one has a lot of presets and stuff so its less hassle and its what i use. might be a bad idea for lower end pcs tho
CUSTOM TASKBAR: retrobar on github (lots of different options)
CUSTOM CURSOR: theres a lot of places to find these, but rw-designer open cursor library is a good place to start
DISCORD: betterdiscord, im using the clearvision v7 theme with a custom background
EXTENSIONS (these are for firefox, might or might not exist on other browsers):
tabliss for the new tab theme
stylus for tumblr -> specifically the 'tumblr - custom dashboard pallette' theme for colors + bg, and this for the pre-twitterifcation layout
enhancer for youtube for custom youtube colors
the browser theme is just one i found on the firefox theme 'store'
The other day, I asked my partner, âWhat are you doing?â
Simple question, right?
Except⊠he suddenly got defensive. His tone changed. I could feel tension building, and I had no idea why. So I took a breath and asked, âWait, what did you hear me say?â
He paused, thought about it, and said, âI thought you meant âWhy arenât you doing anything?â Like you were mad I was being lazy.â
But that wasnât what I meant at all. Iâd genuinely just been curious.
And that moment reminded me how easily things can go sideways when we assume intent. Our brains, especially when weâve had messy pasts, trauma, or relationship anxiety, tend to fill in the blanks with the worst possible meaning.
But that one question, âWhat did you hear me say?â, turned what couldâve been an argument into understanding.
It gave both of us a chance to clarify before our brains made up a story that wasnât true. I was able to explain, and he was able to listen. Understanding what I meant changed his tension entirely.
Sometimes the fight isnât about what was said. Itâs about what was heard.
âWhat did you hear me say?â can defuse a storm before it starts.
An excellent tool.

Margaret Hamilton, NASAâs lead software engineer for the Apollo, stands next to the code she wrote by hand that took humanity to the moon in 1969.
Gee I wonder why people stopped using it...
The author must have been eating woodland salad, candied acorns, turnip pie, plum-cakes, bilberry tarts, arrowroot shortbread, and glazed maple shoots, and drinking flagons of October ale and raspberry cordial when they wrote this
