In this scene, Clark says "Can you imagine how good that must feel?"

But then when he turns the light off, the wheelchair user turns his lamp on. When Mary hits The Pirate with the concrete piece, he yells in pain. Clark consoles The Pirate as though its feelings might be hurt. And when the memory of his wife sees The Pirate, she tries desperately to get away.

They have every one of those things. He just refuses to see their interiority. Like he always did. Like he refused to understand why his wife would kick him out, and keeps refusing, even now that he can see that she was terrified of him. Cause she's always been just furniture to him.

Also, "But just find someone to roleplay with!". As someone who has role played on and off with a variety of strangers on the internet for well over a decade, it is hard for me to, in good faith, give this advice, as I either would run into those who DID genuinely just want to have fun with our role playing, or someone who literally wanted to groom a child. You cannot trust easily on the internet, especially as a minor. Self shipping is especially (and I don't mean this in a meanspirited way, it makes perfect sense) difficult to find someone to roleplay with you. Rarely would someone want to roleplay canon x oc, or ESPECIALLY canon x self insert.

The answer, at the end of the day, IS to write your own fics, it IS to be your own biggest fan, and it IS to make content with your own two hands because it will always be so, so much better. Your skills will grow, you will be happier, and no matter how "cringe" the concept, people will admire you for just making something from your own mind rather than quietly rping away with a dogshit bot. But we need to extend empathy towards those who are struggling, and see how there's a reason WHY this has been so catastrophic towards the progress of fandom, role-playing, and the ability for young writers to build their self confidence as a whole.
