the Beatles would exist in star wars but they'd be actual beetles. they'd look like the real Beatles but w like insect antenna and they'd be part of an alien species who are all musicians. they'd all have star warsed versions of their names except for Ringo bcos Ringo Starr is already a star wars name.
"The Best they Could do", a (not so) little comic about Philippe, Chevalier de Lorraine, set during his childhood, more specifically in 1650 at the Palais-Royal. All remaining 24 pages below the cut, as well as a little word.

This comic is based primarily on my imagination, so please don't take this scene as a potential anecdote 🙏 However, it is inspired by three different things:
first, Joan Pieragnoli's descriptions of Chev's childhood, especially the way he had to grow up far away from his brothers and sister; first seeing his eldest siblings go, then not being allowed, due to their parents' financial limitations, to follow his brother to school and having to instead turn to the army.
secondly, an anecdote brought up by Jonathan Sprangler in his paper about the Monsieurs, where he notes that we have records of Chev and his brother playing in the Seine with Philippe, Louis and the others during their stay in Palais-Royal in 1650.
and finally, an unrelated anecdote that I've already made a little comic about (here) about how at some point, Philippe actually didn't want Chev to "join their family" by becoming a prince of France through a specific treaty. Joan Pieragnoli notes on how ironic it is, given how later Philippe dedicated his life to making Chev part of his family, and I guess it inspired me to sort of tell a sort of mirror to that story.
Regardless, my main interest was of course to explore little Chev's feelings towards his situation, and how he, as a 7 year old, had to deal with seeing his sister and brother go, and being told by his dad that he couldn't be afforded the same investment his brother was.
Consider a vampire's reliance on blood as a metaphor for living paycheck-to-paycheck and depending on the kindness of others to get by, and the desparation that can make one slip into taking.

If you are making hetalia works or you're heavily inspired by hetalia, you are not better than the source material. You can try your best to be more historically accurate and culturally sensitive (and you should) and aware of the political things youre saying with your works, but in the end you're still interacting with and reproducing hetalia. And if you genuinely hate hetalia but still make fanworks, which is your natural right sure, you're... still in the fandom for a thing you hate and view yourself as superior to. Which you are not. Because you're here.
The only genuine, valid hetalia haters are the ones who don't interact with it at all except to say they hate it.
