I can post this here because no one else in my neighborhood is on here. That being said, I still need to be careful with my words.

On Saturday the 28th of March I was with my family at a neighborhood’s early Easter celebration. It was fun and fine and all the kids had fun but then the owner of my neighborhood got up and went on a small rant about how “Jews are running the economy” and that our kids “need to learn finance in order to compete with the Jews” and so on.

I shared a concerned look and later that evening I made an anonymous Facebook post explaining my concern about the man’s antisemitic speech and most of the comments were about how they might have missed that part of his speech but I know me and my family all heard it clear as day.

Yesterday, the 29th, he came up to me personally because he knows I run the facebook page to vent to me about the post a bit. I told him i haven’t been on the page since before Easter and I’d look at the post but I want anonymous posts remain that way on the page and said i don’t want to share private information of people on the page.

He explained that he felt frustrated by the page and how people on there criticize him constantly because he wasn’t in control of the page. He then explained that the antisemitic accusation is considered slander and he wants to sue whoever posted it. He left and I made a public Facebook post explaining that I want the page to be for parents in the neighborhood to organize events and for emergencies(like tornado warnings and other extreme weather).

My concern right now is with the legal action. I live in Ohio which recently passed some state level laws about controlling “antisemitic speech” and while i don’t want to sue this guy or anything I feel like I should know my legal options if I do end up in a case.

I am going to talk to a lawyer about protected speech vs slander on a private Facebook group but i don’t want to go through whatever legal process this might be. Before I do so, is there anyone on here that has any other advice for me or ran into similar situations legally? I feel like I’ll be fine but I want to be sure.

I sometimes think about the letter KA Applegate posted for her fans who were disappointed by the ending of her series, and while I understand simply not liking how a story ends, I really respect her reasoning.

Like you can dislike the ending, that's fine.

But her reasoning is very interesting to read. And I really enjoy the framing of the anti war message.

So when someone proposes a war, remember that even the most necessary wars, even the rare wars where the lines of good and evil are clear and clean, end with a lot of people dead, a lot of people crippled, and a lot of orphans, widows and grieving parents.
