reminder: if you're getting an intramuscular injection (e.g. a covid booster or flu shot) and you're above 200 lbs with estrogen-based body fat distribution or 260 lbs with testosterone-based body fat distribution, you should be requesting a 1.5-inch/38mm needle. you might want to print out this sheet and bring it with you, because I have had pharmacy employees blithely tell me the 1-inch needle is fine for everyone, and I find a clear directive from the CDC just makes life a little easier.

Reblogging for the actual data. I would say that gauging (ha, ha!) needle length purely on body weight is... not ideal. If you're a 6'10" woman who weighs 200lbs... likely you'll need a shorter needle, not a longer one. However any other value is equally difficult to standardize - arm girth would encapsulate fat and muscle alike. The goal is (as the first link, to PubMed, explains) to adequately deposit the vaccine in the deltoid muscle. The variance is how much subcutaneous tissue you're penetrating. If you are aware you carry more subcutaneous fat in the deltoid region, by all means, bring the CDC guidance along! Advocate for yourself! EQUALLY, if you're within these weight guidelines but have very thin arms... this is a dialogue to have with the vaccine provider.

I mean, yeah, valid! but but but I also want to add on the fact that lotr AGGRESSIVELY rejects the “grimdark” and “gritty” settings that is so prevalent in fantasy (and also in general) right now, because I physically can not shut up about it

It is hope and love and compassion that saves each character individually, and because of that, the world. Frodo fails in the end, but his acts of compassion from earlier in the story save the day. And even as the world is saved, it is acknowledged that Frodo failed—without judgement, without blame. He fails, and he is still loved.

And like what can happen in the real world, he is still irrevocably changed by his trauma. But there is still hope—he has to leave, but he leaves with the promise of healing, and the promise that his ever-faithful Sam will follow.

Aragorn, Boromir, Frodo, Sam; each and every one of the characters are driven by their love of the people around them and their hope for the future. They cling to that love and hope throughout their trials, and that bears them through.

Of course people are watching it for comfort!!!! Lotr is eternally consistent in its promise, which Sam articulates so clearly in The Two Towers: “Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it’ll shine out the clearer.”

Things are dark and awful and terrible, but it will not be that way forever. That is the promise of LOTR. A promise of hope, and the reminder that it is love and compassion—for our friends, for our families, for the strangers we’ve never even met—that will save us in the end.

LET ME TELL YOU THE SAGA OF THE IDYLLSHIRE ROCK

So in front of the House of Splendors in Idyllshire, there is a large rock monument that, with a little practice, you can parkour on top of, and it makes a great a little AFK spot. Whilst still a sprout, I was in Idyllshire and saw some folks dancing up top on the rock and naturally I wanted to join them. After a few failed attempts, one of them hops down and offers to show me how to get up. It took a bit of practice but she patiently sat and waited while I got it, cheering me on the whole time. We added each other and have been casually friends ever since.

Well the other day I was in Idyllshire hanging out on the rock as is my wont when sprout comes up and starts futilely jumping up to get on top of the rock. As Ive done many times at this point, I show them how to do the jump to get up and whip out my glowsticks to cheer them on. While I’m watching my new lil hrothgar friend WHO SHOWS UP but the person who initially taught me. She says “how funny that I would find you here of all places” and I assure her I am passing on the good word of the Idyllshire rock.

Together we both cheer on this sprout until after about ten minutes or so they finally manage to get up to much emoting and applause, with the solemn promise that they now must teach people how to get up. And so the student becomes the teacher, and the cycle of the Idyllshire rock continues onward.
