“Well you’re a much better sibling than I am,” Sirius sighed, biting at his lower lip “As much as your sister pisses me off I get it, I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive myself for leaving Reg with-” he just sighed again looking up at her.

“You’re a good brother, Sirius. Reg knows that. You left your parents, not him,” Andromeda said softly, her hand on his arm. “I think he’s more like you than either of you realize. He’ll come around one day.”

           She missed everything about before. She missed getting to see her sisters every day. When Bella was engaged to Rodolphus she missed her a lot, it almost felt like there was a part taken away from her. And now that she was engaged to Lucius and lived with him she had to miss Dromeda as well. But they barely saw each other the past half year, anyway, since the both of them were so busy at St. Mungo’s. No, she usually saw Dromeda there instead of privately.              Her eyebrows frowned on Andromeda’s question. “So Rod actually kept his promise of not telling anyone,” she concluded. “He had me stay overnight at the hospital. That’s probably why I look like crap.” She took her sister’s hand and pulled her along with her to the couch, sighing softly when Dromeda made her remarks about Lucius and their mother. “There’s no such thing as a good match in an arranged marriage, look at Bella.” She refused to talk about her upcoming husband. Refused. Just so she didn’t have to stop herself from trash talking him.

Andromeda could swear her heart stopped at her sister’s words. “He had you what?” she demanded, trying to stay calm though she knew the anger and worry had to show through “Why were you staying overnight? Are you okay?” She let Narcissa pull her to the couch but couldn’t get comfortable, not when she just found out she was in the dark about something. “And why would you have Rodolphus keep anything from me?”

She couldn’t pretend that didn’t hurt. It wasn’t that she thought Narcissa did it just to hurt her, but the fact that she had secrets threw her for a loop. Andromeda wasn’t a fool. She knew the sisters had been growing apart for awhile, but that didn’t make it okay.

“You could have asked Mother not to arrange a marriage. You’re the youngest, she might have let you choose..”

“While that’s also true, word does get around. And I’m afraid none of what I hear about you screams fun,” Andromeda stated, giving a small shrug. She tried not to believe everything she heard. Especially when some of the gossip was horrid enough that the thought of it being true was enough to give a girl nightmares. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m perfectly innocent and sweet, thank you very much.”

Andromeda’s stomach dropped a bit as she entered the gates of Malfoy Manor. Of course she’d been there countless times over the years, but the idea that her dearest sister was now calling this home sent a chill down her spine. She knew that it should be happiness she felt for Narcissa; Lucius was handsome, wealthy, powerful, all the things they’d been taught to want. But Andromeda couldn’t get rid of the nagging suspicion that he was far too cruel for the youngest Black.

The brunette was about to knock when the door swung open, revealing a house elf. “Mistress Andromeda! It is an honor to see you again. The young Mistress Narcissa is in the drawing room awaiting you,” the creature, Dobby if Andromeda remembered correctly, welcomed before bowing and racing off. She smiled softly at his disappearing back before making her way to her sister.

“Is it true? I get a block of time with you all to myself?”

       Half a year ago she had just finished her education and Hogwarts and got herself a traineeship at St. Mungo’s to become a healer. Apparently she had to do something more to get the approval of her parents, because they came up with the genius idea to get her engaged to Lucius Malfoy and have her live with him in his precious manor. Narcissa always wondered why Bellatrix was so bitter about being with Rodolphus every now and then. She couldn’t say she knew now. She would’ve much rather been paired with Rod instead.          But no could do apparently and that was how she found herself in Malfoy Manor awaiting her sister. Thank Merlin for her sister. Ever since her downwards spiral started she hadn’t found a chance to talk to her. Mainly because she was very busy spiraling down, to be honest, and she didn’t want either one of her sisters to know. Neither them or Lucius. She felt caged in the Manor, being watched by a house elf every second she was there, and felt caged in her engagement.          Well, at least she was already getting good at the whole bitter housewife thing.      The door swung open and releaved not a house elf ( oh thank Merlin ) but her sister. Narcissa got up from her chair and rushed towards Andromeda, hugging her after she almost crashed into her sister. “You have no idea how much I’ve been craving decent company,” she said, sighing. “My shifts at St. Mungo’s got canceled for the rest of the week and Lucius is off doing Merlin knows what all the time. Just thank you for being here.”

Andromeda smiled as she hugged her sister tightly. It had been far too long since they’d been together without it being for work or one of their parent’s stupid society functions. First there had been schooling for Narcissa and a first year internship for Andromeda, then the idiotic engagement had happened.. Andromeda hated that it felt like they were too busy for each other.

“You’re the only one in the family who’s ever that excited to see me,” she joked, taking a small step back to get a good look at her sister. “You look positively tiny, are you not eating well?” Andromeda asked, concern coloring her voice. “I’m surprised Lucius isn’t here, he only asks about you every single time I see him. i don’t believe Mother thinks he’s a good match for you.”

“I know, I mean not everyone does that. Plus, you should see how some witches dress when they’re trying to blend in with muggles - it’s hilarious. Halloween is fun, though. For a day you get to dress up as anything you want and you get free candy. It’s glorious.” Mary had gone as batgirl almost every year as a child, but she’d definitely seen her fair share of witches.

“I guess that’s true. I wouldn’t know what to wear if I were going to try to blend in with muggles..” she admitted reluctantly. “Okay, so the free candy part does sound great. I wouldn’t mind participating in that part of such a holiday.”

“Well that’s silly. why should it only be women that have magic and be all ugly and mean?” Andromeda raised a brow. “I guess a werewolf or vampire wouldn’t be too bad. What’d you dress up as?” she asked curiously.

“I’m sure it’s an amazing wish.” Ted smiled, shaking his head as he stared at her. His eyes widened slightly as she took his hand, his heart skipping a beat as he looked at her and thought of his own wish. He closed his eyes and gently squeezed her hand back

“I’m positive yours is better,” she admitted with a laugh once they’d made their wishes. The brunette tilted her head back to look up at the stars, moving her hand from his to steady herself as she leaned back. “It is a beautiful night, isn’t it? Almost makes the night shifts worth it.”

Sirius just shrugged indifferently “Alright is a fine response, I’m not doing great, but things could be worse. For example, I’m not the one stuck going to those awful society functions. “That’s fair They really are dreadful. Mother is still trying desperately to set up a marriage with a suitable pureblood young man. She seems to be completely ignoring the fact that none of the respectable familes want to have me with their sons.”

Raising an eyebrow at the suggestion, James took a moment to think that over. He’d practically fallen for Lily the moment he saw her get sorted, though that sentiment hadn’t been expressed until far past the tender age of eleven. Still, it was difficult to think of his life without her when he’d devoted so much of it to her once they finally got together. 

“Oh please. I may act like the bloke who has it all together, but I couldn’t charm a girl into being interested in me” He argued, giving a loose shrug in return, starting towards the kitchen, “I swear, Sirius needs to start talking to you more. He shoulda told you all the times i’ve cooked for him. The man barely knew how to make soup before coming to live with me” James nodded, grabbing some pans and rifling through cabinets. 

“Right because it’s always been so hard to find a girl who thinks you’re the most handsome bloke in the city,” she rolled her eyes. Andromeda had never thought of James in any sort of romantic way, but she wasn’t blind. He was attractive, and had played Quidditch in school. Girls were always falling over themselves to get to him and Sirius. It was kind of amusing, really.

Andromeda followed him into the kitchen. “Sirius isn’t big on sharing, you know that,” she replied with a small shrug. “I think I just don’t expect us with magic to cook. I’ve never seen my parents step foot in our kitchen, the house elves cook everything.. I don’t know why I never realized that was odd..”

“It’s what happens when you’re a Black,” Andromeda stated matter-of-factly. “You never know, they might think so. I could be hideous by muggle standards.”
