That man is angry. He is pissed. He is grieving. He's feeling a million emotions all at once, and you can see it all here. You can tell Denahi is going through such grief and anger, and it's actually heartbreaking.

Disney keeps making live action remakes, thinking they can mimic everything about the original. But I'm telling you, no expression of grief in a live action remake is going to be as heartbreaking and real as in the original animated proof. And Denahi will be proof of that if Disney DARES TO MAKE A FUCKING LIVE ACTION ADAPTATION OF BROTHER BEAR! THOSE ANGRY AND GRIEVING EXPRESSIONS WON'T EXIST ON HIM IN THAT REMAKE!

Started rewatching old José Carioca clips and listening to soundtracks surrounding him (Welcome to Rio specifically) and both hyping myself and pissing myself off... because after a certain point they started pronouncing his name wrong... 😭😭😭 It's José as in zho-zay NOT hosay... my favorite song that relates to him constantly mispronounces his name ... the change in both his name's pronunciation and his accent from a Brazilian accent to a more Mexican sounding accent saddens me deeply...

ok I just skimmed though the movie again, and here she is in the beginning, she just doesn’t say anything, and you wouldn’t guess she was a girl because they didn’t do that weird humanizing, tits and longer eyelashes thing that most movies with animals do.

i’m pretty sure that all the female coded rats are the smaller rats, which is apparently accurate to real rats. Remmy is also really small. after going though the movie I realized that there are only five rats that have actual lines. Remmy, Emile, the dad, the really big bodyguard rat, and the rat at the end. whack.

Marahute the eagle and her animation are some of my most formative memories of learning to adore animation as a discipline. I wore out our VHS tape of this movie just watching her sequences over and over again.

The speed, scale, weight and accuracy with which lead animator Glen Keane captures her motion and movement, and balances the scales between anthropomorphizing her and keeping her strictly animal... it's just masterful. It is so, so beautiful as a piece of craft.

Also, can we talk for a hot minute on how Marahute first catches him? Normally nowadays it would just be a sudden catch to add to the “drama” but in this she actually takes the time to relatively gauge his fall speed and match it so that she can safely catch him rather than kill him with the sudden impact. Even though they show the whole thought process, the perspective and point of view only adds to the power of the shot and it’s utterly fantastic. You realize you’re being carried by a beast that can fly better than any plane or machine and immediately feel the security of her abilities once on her back. I saw this scene when I was a child in theaters and it’s still one of the most impactful moments I’ve ever experienced in film.
