Haikyuu!! ~It was for youโฆ Wait, what?!~
Match point for Karasuno.
Everyone is tense, adrenaline is surging through the players, Coach Ukai is shouting instructions, the managers and spectators are cheering on the twelve players on the court.
A triple block closes in on Hinata. The crowd gasps in alarm, thinking he's about to be shut down, but thanks to Kageyama's pinpoint set, he manages to thread the ball through the arms of one of the blockers, arms that has opened just a fraction too wide.
The ball drops onto the opposing court untouched.
The arena erupts and Karasuno shouts for joy, but Number 10 has already sprung back up, his orange hair tousled and his eyes locked on a specific spot in the stands, where (Y/N), his girlfriend of a few months, is sitting among the team's supporters.
Spotting her, he points right at her with a dazzling smile and yells: "Did you see that, (Y/N)? The ball went swoosh and then bam -He mimics the motion with his arm- This point is all for you!"
The entire gym erupts in a collective shout, and every eye turns to the girl in the fourth row who is rapidly turning as red as a tomato.
Meanwhile, the reality of his actions fully sinks in for Hinata: not only he has revealed to everyone, including the TV cameras, (Y/N) is his girlfriend, but he has also dedicated the point to her!
Mortified with embarrassment, he crouches down and covers his face with his hands to hide his blush, muttering a thousand apologies a second, while the team chuckles and Nishinoya and Tanaka weep -tears born of a mix of jealousy and pride for their protรฉgรฉ-.
Following his setter's toss, the Fukurodani captain launches himself toward the net to score the point that would clinch the first set for his team.
The cross-court shot is blocked. Only an incredibly tight line shot, a move no one would ever attempt, remains.
But Bokuto isn't exactly a normal person: with an absurd, fluid snap of his wrist and shoulder, he shifts the ball's trajectory at the last second, making it kiss the sideline.
Then, the entire arena erupts as Fukurodani wins the first set, and the Number 4 player lands back on the court.
However, instead of celebrating with his teammates, who are gathering in a huddle, he sprints at breakneck speed toward the team bench with his arms wide open, shouting his signature 'Hey, hey, heeey!'. Waiting there, always ready to pull him out of his "emo mode", is (Y/N), his girlfriend, who is clapping and cheering for the win, shouting Bokuto's name along with the other managers.
Bouncing around her and waving his arms, he shouts, unintentionally loud enough for everyone to hear: "Did you see that, (Y/N)?! I did it for you! I'm number one! I was amazing, right?"
"I saw, you were amazing!" She plays along with a slight blush, stroking his sweat-dampened hair and fueling his excitement even more, while the whole gym erupts over the point being dedicated to her.
"Bokuto-san -Akaashi appears behind the couple, raising his voice slightly to be heard over the commotion in the stands- we need to switch sides for the second set."
"But I still want to be with (Y/N)..."
"Bokuto-san, if you keep playing, you have a better chance of scoring points, and if you score points, you can dedicate them to (Y/S)-san and make her happy."
"Really?! Then let's go! Set every ball to me, Akaashi! (Y/N), I'm going to score another thousand points for you!"
"Shiratorizawa... Shiratorizawa..."
Fifth set, 14โ13 in favor of Shiratorizawa. The opposing team has the ball.
The spiker evades the double block with a feint, seemingly fooling everyone, and spikes the ball, convinced he's scored the equalizer. Yet, the ball never makes it to the other side: it's stopped cold by two arms that has appeared out of nowhere and slams it straight into the ground.
Chants rise up celebrating Shiratorizawa's victory and the cheerleaders rejoice, while Coach Washijo nods proudly.
While everyone screams Tendo's name, he ignores the coach's call and stays on the court, turning toward his girlfriend, (Y/N), in the stands. She's celebrating the win with her classmates but hasn't taken her eyes off him for a second.
Once he catches her gaze, he breaks into his signature, fluid dance, which everyone finds bizarre, pointing at her with his long, slender fingers and humming the tune of his usual song: "Baki baki ni ore... Nani wo? The opponents' hearts... or (Y/N)-chan's heart as she watches me from up there? Did you see, see, see?! Your Satori worked some magic... just for you~".
"Tendo! Cut out that butchered singing and get over here right now, or you'll be running a hundred laps!"
"Comiiing, Coach!" Tendo gives one last theatrical bow toward the third row where his girlfriend is sitting before running off.
As the teams leave the gym amidst applause and cheers, the spectators wonder who was the person to whom Tendo dedicated the point: "I wonder who she was..." "I have no idea, but poor girl..." "Yeah, with a dedication like that... I wouldn't want to be in her shoes, she must be mortified...".
Meanwhile, (Y/N) was chuckling to herself: her boyfriend might be full of quirks, but she loves every single one of them, including that bizarre dance and dedication.
A pin drop in the arena could been heard ever since Atsumu, preparing to serve, signaled the entire crowd to quiet down. He's about to take his third consecutive serve, one that could clinch the winning point for Inarizaki. He bounces the ball three times, as is his habit, his steely gaze fixed beyond the net; nevertheless, a split second before launching into his lethal serve, his eyes lock onto those of (Y/N), his girlfriend, in the stands. Then, with his characteristic flair for showboating, he raises his arm and points his index finger right at her, flashing a cocky, lopsided grin. She blushes, partly from the gesture itself, partly because she can instantly feel the envious stares of all the other girls in the arena directed at her.
Six steps, the run-up, a devastating impact, and the ball transforms into a bullet that grazes the top of the net before slamming into the floor.
A few seconds of silence.
Then, the arena erupts. Substitutes rush onto the court to embrace the players, and the whole team, coaches included, gathers in a celebratory huddle. Yet, Atsumu lingers for a moment, his eyes fixed on (Y/N).
He places his right hand over his chest, right where his heart beats, and then points the index finger of that same hand toward the live TV camera.
He needs no words, he knows she understands.
'That was for you, and now all of Japan knows it.'
"You're such a show-off, pointing at the TV? I don't know how (Y/N) puts up with your ego."
"Hah?! You're just jealous because no one wants you, Samu!"
"Are you two done? We're waiting for you to leave the field."
The opposing middle blocker, standing just under two meters tall, towers over the net with a confident, relaxed expression: what could that shorty in the number 5 jersey possibly do? He should just leave the game to the real players!
Yet, a second later, he finds himself craning his neck to look up at that very same shorty, who slams the ball down, sending it ricocheting violently against the advertising boards with incredible force.
A roar instantly rises from the stands as fans shout praise at Hoshiumi, rising to their feet and applauding. He, though, ignores the crowd and the compliments, taking a few steps toward a specific section of the stands where (Y/N), his girlfriend of nearly a year, is watching him, her eyes welling up with emotion.
Puffing out his chest and locking eyes with her, he shouts, his voice loud enough to make the arena walls shake: "Did you see that, (Y/N)?! It doesn't matter how tall they are: I can fly higher than anyone! So keep your eyes on me, because I'm going to score at least a hundred more points in this tournament!".
"Oh? How cute, you dedicated the point to your girlfriend!"
"Though, you could've made the dedication a bit more romantic..."
"Yeah. I mean, you didn't even tell her you did it for her. You know, if you don't show her some affection, sooner or later she's going to get fed up and dump you."
"But look how cute she is: she's blushing bright red and looks like she wants to disappear. You really embarrassed her, didn't you?"
"Wow, you picked a real winner: I mean, she's beautiful!"
"W-what are you looking at?! Leave me alone!"
