I've paused my reread after Silm because I'm not feeling as engaged and nostalgic this time around and I'm more focused on cnovels and vintage stephen king right now, which are my genuine comfort reads.
My tentative (re)reading order for 2024-25:
The Rings of Power AU: Everything is the same except Fëanor is alive and lives with Celebrimbor
Annatar: I was trying to make friends with them by turning into Celebrimbor, but it turns out that just made it worse. *sobs and wailing can be heard in the distance* Annatar: I have no idea what I am doing wrong, should I get them flowers? More paint? Chocolate? Coffee? What do you think? Celeborn somehow: I don't now, maybe not have them locked in tower against their will? Annatar: Paint it is.

I love Durin's speech to the Dwarves, but I will maintain forever that it should've been Narvi exhorting them to fight for Celebrimbor. It just should've been.
I hope wish pray they give Narvi a little bigger role next season, because damn have they been doing my boy dirty with these 8 episode seasons!!
I think it's quite a good thing that they've taken the time to establish Narvi in terms of who he is in his own society, not just as "Celebrimbor's Dwarf friend"... but damn it, that's also an important part of it!!! 😫 And the Doors of Durin deserved much more than just one scene!

which frankly makes me insane, because that's obviously him filling in the ithildin on the Doors, presumably while he's still refusing to get involved with Annatar's plans for the Nine (we also see him working on plans for the Doors at the start of the scene where Mirdania puts on the prototype). So you could've had this thing showing Celebrimbor's friendship and good-faith collaboration with Narvi, standing in contrast to his dynamic with Annatar. It could've even ramped up the tension with Celebrimbor himself becoming aware of this difference, and maybe coming this close to untangling himself from Sauron's toils, only to be reeled back in. So many ways it could have served the narrative, as well as filling in the backstory of this recognisable artefact from the main LOTR story.
...but I digress. X'D Yeah, the eight episode thing is to blame for a lot of the issues in pacing and development etc., I think. A story of this scope would deserve a good dozen episodes at least, to do it justice. ;____;

bruh this guy lives to be made worse so you can go wild guilt-free and blameless for any outcome, including his inevitable twisted crimes. Honestly picturing him as a whiny sub who cries frequently is too easy, which makes him just about perfect for any iteration of our friend Sauron.

That's a sound strategy: layer in the flavors so you can't taste Sauron. I personally would add chicken or tofu in place of pork, and chili crisp to overpower any lingering aftertaste. And remember he doesn't freeze well! In the end it's eat or be eaten.

I didn't think it was romantic, but it was loving and emotional and REAL, like Elrond didn't know if it would work and he had to let Galadriel know that he loved, believed, and valued her; and she received that message and sent it right back.
So their kiss wasn't traditionally romantic, but it wasn't only a way to give her a way out. It was "goodbye, maybe" and "I love you" sent and received between them, and important beyond a simple plot device (and so well-done by the actors!).
After all Galadriel had been through, that Elrond gave her something real -- true, honest emotion, no hidden agenda between them, no remaining distrust -- in addition to a potential way out was huge, and I like to think it gave her a little boost of confidence and energy too.
