Went through my books recently & took pictures of them all so I can look at them when I want to read another book & consider going to the library or buying another. I have *so many* I want to reread & so many I haven't yet read... right there. This is only about half of them. đ
& more...
& yet more... this is all for now. Some I've read through several times, some I'm on the first read of (the king's weaver), some I've not yet read. All *shall* be read & are cherished for their varied stories & lessons & appearances. đ

Being a writer is wild because one minute youâre convinced youâre a genius and the next youâre googling âsynonyms for walkâ like youâve never used language before.
Sometimes I write 50 pages in a blur & come back to it the next day wondering how it is that I did so when I had to ask someone what the word for the item I pointed at (probably something ridiculous like a strainer or spatula) is. đ le sigh. Brains are weird.

One time I was leaving a friend's place and an older lady with basically no English came up to me and communicated that she was very cold and needed a ride. She pointed to tell me where to go.
I got there and her daughter or granddaughter came out and was like omg her phone died we were worried
And then the older lady said something and the younger lady translated.
"She knew she could trust you because you have pink hair"
I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of"
Be weird. Be colorful. Help random people.
wanting to be this safeplace for people but knowing that means I have to actually go outside when I'm not at work â I am very socially anxious if I'm not around friends or in work mode.
Youâre a daycare worker, watching over toddlers, when the imminent end of the world is announced. It becomes increasingly clear none of the kidsâ parents are going to show up as the end inches nearer.

âMom has been texting me for the last twenty minutes. She wants me to come home. Itâs a four hour drive, when the roads are clear, and from what I hear everybody is trying to get somewhere right now. Thereâs no telling if Iâd even-â
âEverybody else has left. All the other kids were picked up, the other staff left. They gave me all the keys. I promised to stay and wait for as long as- well. Even if some of the parents show up, I guess some of them wonât, so Iâm just waiting. Until.â
[Clears throat.]
âA couple of people came after everybody left. Peter, one of Aidanâs fathers, gave me three hundred dollars for staying. What am I going to do with money? Itâs- anyway. I kind of get it. He wanted to give me something.â
[Audio ends]

âTheyâre all between 2 and 4.â Sniff. âTheyâre so little. Too little to really- maybe if they were older, Iâd have to tell them something. But um. Iâm just- trying to stay calm and keep them happy and occupied. I think thatâs the best thing, right now.â
[Heaving breaths.]
âI normally use this recorder to help me remember stuff. Itâs just, uh, habit to talk to it. I donât know. Theyâre napping, right now. Iâve got the baby monitor, they know that if they talk into it, Iâll come, so-â
[Sobbing.]

âMom keeps texting, so I blocked her. I sent her a text telling her goodbye, first, but. I do. But these kids need me.â
[Sniff.]
âI tried calling their parents again, but I canât get anybody. Itâs just busy signals. I called the firefighter station, 911. I canât get through to anybody.â
[Shaky breath.]
âI went out into the yard. Um, I think they can play. Itâs nice out, and you canât really see it yet. Little bit of a glimmer, if they ask Iâll just tell them itâs a plane, but itâs nice out and weâve got hours before-â
[Murmuring childâs voice, indistinguishable.]

Every time this one makes the rounds, I cry reading it. Glad to have a tumblr again so I can follow the author & read the entire thing without weird crops cutting off parts of sentences. đ
I've been doing this for a couple years now where I make a playlist of all the songs I've had stuck in my head for the year. I add the songs as they get stuck & at the end of the year I listen to them all again / share the list with friends. Figured I'd share it here this year. Have fun seeing the weird things I got stuck on in '24 lol.
Did another one of those charcuterie boards recently for a ... I almost said "girls night" but it wasn't 'cause I'm not??? Soooo "bestie's night". Had some wine [to pair] & then some whiskey [to share, lol]. Big ol' honkin' wheel of brie with honey & chopped candied pecans (could prob do an 8oz next time rather than 1lb đ ), some Genoa salami, calabrese, finocchiona & prosciutto along with 4 different goat cheeses (2 of which were chosen out of curiosity & bewilderment) ~ cranberry cinnamon, horchata & pumpkin spice were the logs & the one cut in wedges is the eternal favorite, the drunken goat. Also pictured some fig-olive crackers, orange chili pepper marinated olives, orange fig jam, sliced baguette & more candied pecans.
Both boards were picked clean by the end. This was a fun & filling dinner for the five of us. & I freaking love putting them together so that's a huge plus too.
Made a charcuterie board for a day of relaxation.
Pictured: Soppresata (top left, round meat), Prosciutto (rolled, in random spots), Genoa salami (bottom right, cut in half moon slices), drunken goat: goats cheese with a wine-soaked rind (top right), jalapeĂąo havarti (far left), honey lemon wensleydale cheese (center; yellow wax), Irish cheddar (right middle; green wax), herb marinated mozzarella balls, espresso bellavitano (bottom left), dippable naan bites, raspberry jam, garlic stuffed olives and pineapple honey mustard.
Not pictured: the very pretty glasses (three for each of us) of the cider, white wine & red wine pairings. Nor did I get a picture of the melty ooey-gooey robiola bosina (think brie but a bit mellower & made with sheeps & cows milk in Italy!) drizzled with honey & topped with some homemade candied pecans or the tea that we also had alongside our "flight" sized (2ish ounces) glasses of alcomahols.
It was all delicious and a very nice break from work & life stuff, just enjoying time and eating yummy stuff with my bestie đ
Hello, crab fans. Wow, you have been having a busy time! On July 29, also known as Crabs Day, you took to TumblrMart to give the gift of crabs to your pals. And boy, did we noticeânot just all the great crab memes and trending posts on the day but also the burst in sales which made up a substantial financial boost to the running costs at Tumblr. And it truly took our breath away. Â
We got so excited we went back to the drawing board and designed some crab checkmarks, which we teased by dressing your regular checkmarks up as crabs on the day. On August 1, we launched a regular little crab checkmark and a rainbow crab checkmark for gifting and treating yourselves.
Here are some stats from Crabs Day:
You gifted 8k crabs that day. Thatâs an almost 20k% increase in crab sales.
We saw a more than 7k% increase in total Tumblrmart sales.
All this money goes straight back into running costsâsuch as a monthâs worth of power costs for Tumblr application servers. Thatâs all you! Youâre doing that! Youâre keeping Tumblr around with your generosity toward your friends. Crabs be thanking ye â¤
I think some of your are getting confounded by the cheerful tone of the staff post. Once you look at the data, the content is seriously depressing.
Ok, so, crabs day did $24k for Tumblr. Really something less than that, because you need to substract payment processor fees, so let's say it's about 20k.
Now, imagine we made Crabs day happen every single day starting today and for a full year. Imagine those $20k in crabs happening each day, each single day, for a full year.
That's would be a whopping $7.3 million for Tumblr on crabs per year!! Woaah! Which means Tumblr could cover... 1/4 of its current annual losses.
If we made Crabs day happen every day for a full year, Tumblr would still be losing 23 million per year of Automattic's money. Which, believe me, is a very significant share of the entire Automattic revenue.
And this is why all the "do what we want or we won't spend a dime on Tumblr" posts are kind of toothless... It doesn't really matter a lot at this point.
all your stuffed animals love you. they're not sad if they're in a box, or on the floor, or not held/played with as much. they understand. they know that you might need another stuffie more, or that you don't have enough space. they're just happy to be with you, and if you ever give them away, they'll be happy there too. stuffies are for comfort. they understand. they love you too. it's okay.

This is what I tried to explain to US platforms like Patreon when they suspended my account for having a nude statue as the background image: I live in Europe, I can go and see a nude statue within a 5 minutes walk. Children can see them, they're not in some 18+ container. I will never understand those policies.
unstoppable force (wanting to be the kindest version of myself) vs unmovable object (all the anger and hatred I have inside myself)
Sometimes people use ârespectâ to mean âtreating someone like a personâ and sometimes they use ârespectâ to mean âtreating someone like an authorityâ
and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say âif you wonât respect me I wonât respect youâ and they mean âif you wonât treat me like an authority I wonât treat you like a personâ
and they think theyâre being fair but they arenât, and itâs not okay.
Bringing this back cuz itâs always important
Capitalism is getting very much more dystopian very quickly
Itâs a matter of time before companies start their own Pod-communities and âstrongly encourageâ workers to live there and set up rules like no alcohol and no defamation of the company in the Pods.Â
As nightmarish as this is (and it is), this is only new for documented white people. From seasonal archiculture workers to construction workers to sweatshops, âsleep where you work and live your whole life controlled by your boss and coworkers pressured to spy on youâ, has been very much a thing for a looooooooong time.Â
This is one of many things capitalism has always done to workers and now theyâre going âhhmmmm.. if I can do this to some workers, why not all of them? if I present it as a hip new way of urban living people for the âfreelancersâ that I exploit, I might even be able to do it without the armed guards that run my sweatshops and plantations.â
I donât really get the issue with the âsex is bannedâ part tho
I donât want to hyperfocus on that part because âlive without privacy, convert your bed into a desk by day and just work work workâ is distopian enough as it is and I donât really want to distract from a conversation about the new fuedalism to just talk about sex.Â
But can you not understand how that monotomous soulless life defined by work becomes even more soulless when you are not permitted to engage in (what is for most allosexuals) one of the most intimate moments of recreational joy and interpersonal connection? & how much it says about our lack of power when we live in places that control our sexual and reproductive lives?Â
well yeah, but itâs communal living. I mean youâre spot on with the rest but idk, a ban on sex when you share your living quarters with like two dozen other people? it doesnât seem that deep tbh.Â
You know, Iâve spend time in socialist and anarchist self-organized communal living spaces where lots of people shared bedrooms because they liked it and all these spaces had a place for sex. They all acknowledged that that was a thing many humans loved and valued and so they organized to make that good thing possible. Some had a spare room with a lock on the inside that couples could use, others had dorms where sex was okay and dorms where it was not so people could choose where to sleep. It is not difficult to have communal living for those that like sharing bedrooms and also organize a place for sex.Â
This, however, is not communal living. This is crammed, dehumanized corporate living. This is squeezing as many people as possible into a space defined by work. The inhabitants own nothing in this space and have no control over their environment, they canât even paint the walls let along organize the space to meet their needs. In such a space, sex is made impossible on purpose:
âWe built the pods facing each other so the community polices itselfâ
The people that made this could have organized privacy and opportunities for sex. They deliberately did not do this, they dilerabetely designed the space for minimum privacy. The purposeful banning of sex from this space is just one part, but one very obvious part, of the way these spaces are not build for humans, they are build for employees whose whole identity should be limited to their productivity.Â
Both controlling sexuality and encouraging a culture of snitching are red flags for coercive control. If a church or a new age spiritual group you belonged to did it, that would be a sign to get out.
I donât think the basic dynamic is all that different just because itâs advertised as a job, either. The psychology of being viscerally surveilled that way is powerful, which is WHY itâs so popular with cults. Iâd rate employers doing thisâŚsomewhat alarming.
sometimes i think about gay people who lived centuries ago who thought they were all alone who imagined a world where they could live openly as themselves who met in secret spoke in code defied everything and everyone just to exist and iâm like..i gotta sit down. whew i gotta sit down
this is why this sappho fragment hits me so hard
If this little book should see the light after its 100 years of entombment, I would like its readers to know that the author was a lover of her own sex and devoted the best years of her life in striving for the political equality and social and moral elevation of women.
