some people accurately recognize "humans are ontologically evil" as untrue and reactionary rhetoric but somehow believe the far opposite ("humans are ontologically good") is more rational and it leads to takes that are really just fundamentally disconnected from reality. sometimes inflicting cruelty is the sole point of harmful behavior and sometimes the villain doesn't have a tragic backstory. remember capitalism rewards the worst of personality traits. that doesn't make anyone irredeemable, but it does mean there won't always be a sympathetic explanation, and you have to be willing to engage with society at large regardless
