How about this: Stardust au where Charles is a literal fallen star and Erik is ordered to capture him so Shaw can exploit his magic. Charles' naivete comes from spending a lifetime observing the world without being part of it but also having witnessed the literal best of humanity, whereas Erik's cynicism is the result of only living one very limited but genuine human life. Shenanigans ensue and then they all live happily ever after, except Shaw who crumbles to dust. (I'm too unskilled and lazy to write this but somebody could.)

This but Uno Reversed: Erik is the star.

Let me explain:

There's Charles (Tristan), sweet and innocent and so wildly optimistic of his ability to create any future for himself that he sets his mind to, that when he's sitting with the woman he has a crush on, Moira (Victoria), on her birthday and sees a star fall from the sky, his first thought is to turn to her and say: "I'm going to go get that for you [aka I'm going to make a world where you and I can be together]."

Then you have Erik (Yvaine), who was just minding his business when he literally gets ripped from his home and is sent crashing to the lowest low that he could possibly imagine. And he's pissed. He's hurt. And the last thing he wants in the world at that point is some love-driven optimist suddenly crashing into him to tell him that he's going to be brought into a world that--at the time--he has absolutely no desire to have anything to do with. On top of that, you have him being pursued by Shaw (the Witch Queen / Lamia) with the full intention of cutting out his heart to exploit his power.

...I don't think I need to go into detail about the metaphor there.

Anyway, then you have hijinks ensuing where Charles and Erik are forced to travel around together, Erik being forced to eventually admit that amidst all the bad of the world ("all those wars...pain...and lies...hate", to quote Yvaine herself) love was the ONLY thing that made looking at his world more bearable. And then having him be the one to confess his feelings first while poor Charles is stuck transformed into an adorable little mouse who wanted cheese. ;3;

Anyway, would LOVE to see a cherik Stardust AU!!! I guess it just kind of bums me out sometimes that it always feels like, with any cherik AU that's fitting them into a romance where there's originally a heterosexual couple, Charles is always the one who automatically gets shoved into the female role just...because. For me, though, after watching the Stardust film countless times and even reading the book twice, I can tell you that--personality wise--Charles is much more of a Tristan/Tristran and Erik is much more of an Yvaine.

while I don’t agree with that referring to men in their 30s-early 40s as “old man yaoi”, I UNDERSTAND why many people who primarily consume honest-to-goodness BL manga are quicker to call it that, because there is just such poor representation for men that aren’t hairless dehydrated 20-something twunks. They’re wrong, but I get why it happens.

I also understand that “middle-aged yaoi” isn’t as fun to say as “old man yaoi”, even when it’s more technically accurate.

So I would like to propose new vocabulary: Grown Ass Yaoi. yaoi that’s grown ass men. they’re not old but they’re not young adults either. you get me? Grown Ass Yaoi
