Campaign 3

I’m locking in my final guesses for the Marquet Campaign. Presented in alphabetical order. It’s a few weird races, and no humans, which I didn’t do on purpose. (I’m gonna go 0/7 with these)

Ashley - Elf Bard. I’m not saying this is peer pressure, but many members of the audience want it, and frankly, I think the cast would love to see it too. And of all the cast, Ashley is probably the most content to sit back and just go along for the ride. But they also say that Ashley is very dark, perhaps best exemplified with Yasha and the Champion. I think Ashley would be inclined to make a bard who on the surface seems very much like another College of Lore, but perhaps without even other PCs knowing, slowly reveals themself to be a College of Whispers Bard.

Laura - Half-Orc Rogue. I’m not sold on Half-Orc. I wasn’t sure where she might go on race, so I thought “Maybe she’ll just follow Travis?” Maybe she’ll be the Human of this campaign? I do think Rogue is a decent bet. We know she wanted it campaign one, and Liam grabbed it. Then she lost her warlock in campaign two to Travis. I think she’ll likely go back to her original wish and finally run a Rogue. Perhaps Inquisitive or Scout.

Liam - Dwarf Barbarian. As great a wizard as Liam was, I think he enjoys his martial classes. Dwarf Barbarian sounds a little basic on paper, but I think Liam’s ready to set dark and broody aside for a while. I’d be very interested to see what happens when Liam just lets loose.

Marisha - Genasi Sorcerer. Apparently, Marisha has said she wants to do a high Charisma character. I don’t know if she’ll stick to it, but after Keyleth and Beau, I can understand the desire. Plus, she might miss the power of wielding crazy spells. Sorcerer does both those things. I picked Genasi because - regardless of element - Genasi are hot, and I feel any Genasi could fit the Marquet setting.

Sam - Minotaur Monk. We know Liam chose Sam’s character. Here’s how I think his thought process went. “Okay, so Sam’s played two smaller characters, so let’s go big. Veth was very taken by the minotaur we saw in Xhorhas, so we’ll go minotaur. Sam’s been a support caster. He’s been a ranged fighter. Let’s put Sam on the front line. How about Monk? Minotaur Monk - perfect alliteration. Minotaur Monk it is.”

Taliesin - Warforged Druid. I think the minute Matt said in the recap that the Warforged had been released into Exandria, Taliesin might have set aside anything else he had brewing. I know we just had Caduceus, but I just feel like it would be the most Taliesin thing in the world to explore the juxtaposition and the intermingling of nature and technology, especially through the lens of the “technology”.

Travis - Hobgoblin Fighter. Travis is the one that I just have no idea. We know he wanted to use spells in campaign two, so he chose... Warlock. I feel like I remember early campaign him lamenting only having two spells. Though I also think he likes hitting things. So I’m thinking perhaps he’ll go Eldritch Knight. But I could also see perhaps a Forge Cleric. Or maybe even a War Caster Wizard? As for race, I don’t know if anyone is still gun-shy when it comes to having another spell-casting Dragonborn. If so, Hobgoblin could be a really interesting choice.

Because news about campaign three for critical role is around the corner, I created a fantasy football-esque grid for class predictions for the main cast! Feel free to fill it out and reply/post it. (I will be also sharing it on my twitter and instagram).

These are more hopes than predictions, but there’s some thought put into it. Ashley - Pike and Yasha were both more reserved characters. So I wanna see her use a high Charisma character. Laura - She could easily pull off a Bard. I don’t know if she’ll go right back into another support class, especially since Jester so desperately wanted to hit things. That’s why I’m thinking College of Swords if this happens. Liam - Squishy Rogue. Squishy Wizard. Both of whom were very cerebral. Let’s see Liam’s spin on a Barbarian. I’d love to see him tackle Ancestral Guardian. Marisha - Keyleth and Beau were both front line fighters, so I kinda wanna see what happens if Marisha plays a support. Not necessarily a surefire thing with an Artificer, but a possibility. Sam - Druids can do it all, and Sam is a sneaky bastard. And if Liam chose Sam’s class, and is thinking the same thing I am, we’re gonna find out what happens when you give Sam Riegel nearly limitless power. Taliesin - If I remember correctly, Tal’s original character in their home game was a sorcerer. Much like Ashley, his characters are charismatic when it’s not their main stat. So what if it was? Travis - Travis went Warlock to try his hand at magic. I don’t know if a Warlock/Paladin was enough to scratch that itch though. He might not wanna retread his class from the Darrington Brigade, but I could see him going Forge or Tempest domains.

This party lacks a rogue, as you can see. If anyone, I think it’d be Marisha or Tal who go for it this time around.

If the announcement is meant to come in September or Early October, theoretically, Campaign 3 could start late October. Perhaps the last Thursday of October?

Imagine them doing the announcements and ad reads in just regular zip up hoodies or whatever, theme rolls, Matt does the intro, then, “Describe your character.”

First player gives their description, then BAM! Hoodie off. They’re all dressed as their new characters for Halloween!

Bravery is something all of the young crew in the RWBY has shown at one point or another. I’d say they all have bravery, or they wouldn’t be where they are. Bravery feels kind of like a blanket term to me.

I’d say “Perseverance” is closer to Blake’s individual character. She was fighting for faunus rights since she was a young child. When her parents stepped down, she pushed forward without them. When she realized Adam was dangerous, she went her own way and enrolled at Beacon.

She (and everyone), hit their low point in Volume 4, but with help from Sun, she recollected herself, helped Ilia get back on the right path, and convinced the faunus in Menagerie to protect a foreign Kingdom. This opened the door for a new faunus organization to begin to take hold. After all of which, she had to face the people she felt she had most betrayed.

Blake told us this volume that Adam’s real power comes from control. She broke away from it personally, she took it away from him on a large scale at Haven, and she finally managed to overcome him altogether.

Years ago, when the trailers were being released, Blake became my favorite because I felt bad for her. I was disappointed that all the other girls got to be the sole star of their trailers, but Blake had to share hers with Adam. Looking back, it was necessary, because of how important that moment was to Blake’s arc and her character, but at the time we didn’t know what the story would be and I was just hoping to see her flourish on her own. Looking back though, there was even more to it that I hadn’t realized. Adam got the killing blow on the Spider-Mech. Blake didn’t even get the final hit in her own trailer. But seeing it now, six years later it makes sense why. Rooster Teeth was telling us from the very beginning that Blake was not going to be the strongest character physically. That’s okay, though, because Blake has a different kind of strength, so long as we know that she should never be underestimated or considered weak. Because while Adam may have gotten to show off his considerable strength in the Black Trailer, Blake did something that was so much harder.

living in the united states is supremely fucked up cause we're one of the richest, most powerful juggernauts on the planet, but your average citizen has relatively infinitesimal access to that wealth and power, and very little they can do to improve things.

being poor in the US still makes you rich by some global standards, but often times The American Experience is like..... you're a passenger locked in the baggage hold of a very long train that's going very fast. and the people driving the train are running it off the rails and shouting CHOO CHOO MOTHERFUCKERS CHOO CHOOOOOOOOO as they thoughtlessly bulldoze this train through everything in its path. you want very badly to get off the train or bludgeon the conductors with a crowbar, because you don't like where it's going, but you're handcuffed in a duffel bag and the conductors have barricaded themselves in the engine cars with all the food, medicine, and tools that could be used to help you out.

and UNDERSTANDABLY the rest of the world is like "what the FUCK is wrong with that train??? it must be stopped! there are so many people on the train why is nobody breaking into the conductor's booth and stopping it??!" but most of us are just squirming for basic survival in the last few cars while billionaires sit on top of the train sniping anyone brave enough to crawl up from the cargo hold, all while shouting that you're lucky to be on such a luxurious, successful train at all.

Herein lies the problem with the MCU making Mjolnir’s “worthy” clause a generic “they’re a really good person” thing. By that criteria any number of superheroes easily qualify. In the comics being worthy didn’t mean just “being good” it specifically meant “be a good Thor” because Odin wanted to be sure that when Ragnarok came around, whoever held the hammer would play Thor’s part in it even if they weren’t Thor himself.

Peter shouldn’t be able to lift Mjolnir because he’s TOO good and pure. To lift Mjolnir you have to be good and noble but also willing to use it to crush the skulls of Asgard’s enemies (Mjolnir means CRUSHER after all), something Pete would not be up for, but an old soldier like Cap would if necessary. Being truly noble but perfectly willing to kill is much more rare in superhero comics. That’s why you get things like in the DC/Marvel crossovers Wonder Woman can lift it while Superman cannot. Being good isn’t enough.
