Look, I was on the fringes of the fandom for a while, but I was In The Trenches when The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals came out. I remember everyone spinning out theories about the Hatchetfield Bee and the Hot Chocolate Boy long before it was confirmed that these characters had more lore of any kind. Like, Nick Lang had to specify that Hot Chocolate Boy already had a name because people were already speculating wildly and making up fanon names for this character with two lines.

It is wild to me to not see that same energy being applied to Cinderella's Castle. Especially when lyrics like "A queen and her vanity/A beast and his agony" are to me, very obviously telegraphing that these are characters with already planned lore? There's so much potential juicy fanon fruit to dig one's teeth into?

Those references were all to existing fairy tale people. "The queen and her vanity" is the Queen from Snow White "Mirror who is the fairest of them all?" and "The Beast and his Agony" is from Beauty and The Beast.

I agree that the fandom had too tepid a response to such an amazing show (and sadly I think we all know why (tm)) but these situations are hardly similar.

I always read about this in books but both my parents worked in high-security labs so there wasn’t exactly ever a “schoolchildren permitted today” policy. Was this actually a real thing that happened to people?

I definitely got brought to my Mom’s and dad’s work (they worked in the same government office) but since I was a generally bookish kid I was safe to set up at an empty desk with my books and a notebook and pen. Don’t remember if this was a formal Bring Your Kid To Work day but it probably was at least a couple of times, on account of usually if I wasn’t at school I was at my grandparents’. The one occasion where school was out and my grandparents couldn’t take me was if it was a teacher admin day, since my grandmother taught at my school.

Several years my dads company had a family "bring your kid to work day" where they had events for kids and food and ice cream and games, it was educational in parts and there was a clown making balloon animals and a magician.

One year my dad took me and my brother from the crowd, took us into their server room because he needed a small body to crawl under the floor to help him run cables lol. we missed the ice cream so he took us to a real ice cream shop when the event was over to make up for it.
