My stories are not for everyone.
My stories will bore some readers. Some readers will hate them. Some won’t understand, won’t connect the dots, won’t relate to the characters. Some won’t because they can’t, some won’t because they don’t want to, but most won’t simple because my stories just aren’t for them.
My stories aren’t for everyone.
My stories are for me.
And they’re for the readers who will love them. They’re for the reader who have already loved them. For the readers who will see what I see in them and feel the characters and the world the way I do. They’re for the readers who wanted these stories before they even knew they existed. They’re for the readers they’ll make smile, the readers they’ll stick with, and the readers they’ll save.
And just because my stories aren’t for everyone doesn’t make them worth any less to the people they are for.
Not everyone likes butterflies. Not everyone likes spiders. But the people who love those creatures more than anything else would lose a part of themselves if they didn’t exist.
So no, my stories are not for everyone. But that doesn’t matter.
Because they’re for someone, and to that someone, they’re irreplaceable.

Some day I want to see a sci-fi production where the Nerd spouts twenty seconds of impenetrable technobabble, and the Salt-of-the-Earth Audience Identification Character is just like “well, shoot – it sounds obvious when you put it that way”, and proceeds with the plan without ever demanding a plain English explanation for the benefit of the audience.
(Over the course of the series it becomes a running gag that the Audience Identification Character perfectly understands technobabble, though they don’t speak it themselves. There are recurring exchanges to the effect of “you know, the thingy with the bit on top” “you mean the [something with an implausible number of syllables]?” “exactly!”)

I’m about eight chapters in and I’m not entirely sure what I actually expected this book to be, but whatever that was, it’s better.
Fun fact: I scored significantly lower on my trial exams than I could have because I couldn’t put down this book. No regrets.
I’m halfway done and really enjoying it! Zombies, vampires, transgender leads, Nazis getting shot. What more could you want from a book?

i always recommend wuthering heights to people because it’s such a unique book in which none of the characters are even remotely likable and yet….you really can’t wait to see where their bullshit is going to take them next. running away from home? cool. obsessing about revenge for the rest of your life? hey everyone needs a hobby. forcing your kid and the neighbors kid to get married? sounds like a plan. digging up your old lovers grave? why the fuck not at this point. you’re both pissed off yet fascinated. you will be miserable but love every second of it
